Program Owners - Do You Ban Those who Chargeback?

If they canceled 1-2 weeks before end of sub, then waited 1-4 weeks to chargeback?
What is your normal procedure?

Not much you can do. Using their billing information can be illegal and they can always say it was unauthorized usage and come back at you.
The worst one I ever had was some guy from Maryland emailing off the bet about problems with video size, format, log-in and so on. I took it lightly first two month but when he emailed me 90 days later and told me that "everything sucks and I am filing charge back", I emailed him his download stats for each day of 3 month he was a member (it was like 4 terabytes), he replied "I am deleting it as I am writing this email". Needless to say he never filed chargeback and stayed as paying member.

Hi...Thats what I am mean. There should be some mechanism in place so the billers do not automatically allow a chargeback if they see he has downloaded the members area. I have his IP address so I am going to check on it and see exactly how much he "hated" the site. Biller posted no reason for chargeback....

I would never do anything illegal just pissed as all hell.

There should be a fucking blacklist of customers who file chargebacks.

I just hate that it's a one way street of being fucked for a paysite. I understand that some sites mislead customers but in that case they should file immediately, not 3 months later.

We sometimes get the new member who cancels the recurring to get 1 month more cheaply, but chargebacks are rare...If I were to request a chargeback it would be within a day or two of joining the site, not weeks later...
Yes, I wish there was a trustworthy database, paysite owners could go to in order to document scammers or iffy chargebacks.

Ban at billing level and include in the email to ccbill to "additionally ban this user from joining any other website under my main account"

Depending on circumstance, i'll post a warning to other webmasters and IM a few friends personally so they can check their billing for the user.

There are a few other things but, to lengthy to go into them.

We had a big CB a few months ago.

a big one

Credit card companies always side with the card holder

You can ban him from your system and move forward.

Do you realize that chargebacks aren't instant? At least as far as I know. Or different banks could have different procedures.

I had to do a mainstream chargeback a while back and called the DAY I was billed. The CC company told me I had to wait for my statement and call back so I could ensure the charge was on there and I WANTED to chargeback. Don't ask me why they couldn't simply look at recent transactions to CONFIRM the charge was there, but whatever. When I got my statement and called back, they SNAIL mailed me the forms I had to fill out. I probably waited a couple of days to fill them out and send them back. By the time they got the forms back, a good 4-5 weeks would have passed.

The entire process made me believe that it's not as easy to file a chargeback as we'd like to think. The person charging back has to REALLY want to do it.

I've done it several times with a simple phone call. of course, I had to wait a week or so for my new credit card, but I didn't have any hassles doing a chargeback, and never signed any papers.

Then, like I suspected, different banks do things differently. Regardless, chargebacks suck whether they happen the same day or a month later.

They had to issue you a new credit card when you did a chargeback??

Yes, in my case my card was stolen or the number appeared to be circulating in the wild. So the card had to be canceled and a new one issued.

Ah gotcha. When my card was compromised once they did just reverse the charges in question immediately and reissue me a card. The chargeback was a whole different fiasco however.

Whats the difference then, between reversing charges and doing a chargeback? Seems like the same thing to me.

I always emailed the client.

I would advise the member I noticed they were doing a chargeback, and let them know I would be blocking them at the processing level, and would be banned from signing up again.

If I had to guess, it'd be that reversing the charges with a compromised card isn't a voluntary charge, while a chargeback is something that you did voluntarily sign up for and are now disputing that you received the product agreed upon. When charges are reversed, it's the bank reversing the charges. When a refund is refunded, it's the merchant refunding the charges. When a charge is chargedback, it's the customer doing the chargeback.

That's just my take on it. I could be wrong. Like I said, I don't doubt that different banks have different procedures.

I've never had that experience. You must have had a tough system working your card. Once, when I called to cancel, ccbill offered to charge it back if i was unhappy... an old site in the asian niche... I declined as I had downloaded a lot and just had enough...

This chargeback came after 2 cycles I believe... probably due to rent/mortgage and going over account to see what they could get back...we are easy targets...

Once, when someone charged back more than 250$ in dvd order, the bank, our bank, took the money out of our account and never even notified me of what they had done. They were apparently waiting for me to call when I saw our biz account gouged. Was total fraud and we suffered for bank's negligence, our end and the card users...was foreign account, not so easy to put into collections...
