I am surprised they offered an affiliate program still, considering they have no support.

At one time they were the best. Now I get huge mysterious charges and credits on my credit card, Poor followup and slow domain transfers, auto registrations that renew way too early, provably one of the least functional sites in the business and now this.

That could be an indication they are in trouble.

I used to really love Moniker, what a shame they seem to be going down guess I'll have to move from them (not that I have many domains with them but still)

Always some bullshit with registrars, first everyone loves them then they turn into a mess.

Really? What ever gave you that idea? I never understood how anyone could use a registrar whose sole support seemed to be someone on GFY.

The answer I received is even more disturbing:

There was a notification placed on the affiliates.moniker.com subdomain several months ago notifying visitors that we were no longer accepting new accounts and that the program would be shut down shortly thereafter. In June the program was discontinued.

Formal communication will be sent out shortly regarding the status of the program and client payments. I expect final payments will be made within the next month or so.

So Moniker waits 2 months to send out notifications to affiliates and "Payment will be made within the next month or so"?

Words that come to mind are crooked and deceptive as well as complete incompetence.

I spend more than a $1,000 a year with these folks and my affiliate payment doesn't mean crap to me.

I now have zero level of trust with these jokers and will start moving domains away immediately.

Let's see some recommendations as well as prices...I am not interested in resellers, Yahoo or Godaddy and anyone with an affiliate program is a plus.

I want someone with phone service that I don't want to have to use but when they do they understand English and their job.

I want someone who is priced fairly and their web site has 99.9% up-time and is functional.

This was what I had when I started with Moniker almost a decade ago. I was using 3 different service but slowly shifted everything over to them.

Besides this issue, there have been numerous mystery charges and the credits with a few hours or days to my card, poor or no followup on domain transfers and now this.

I have had nightmare with clients with both Godaddy and Yahoo and would refuse to use either nor recommend them. Who ever I will use for my own domains I will be switching my clients over to as well and if I can make a few dollars...even better.

Why would you need phone support from a registrar? In all of my years doing this I have never had the need to contact my registrar by phone. Aside from one billing issue I haven't even contacted them via a ticket.

They're not the biggest by a long shot. They're number 10, barely, by size.

http://www.webhosting.info/registrar...strars/global/

They used to be very good. Times have changed, Moniker's parent company has changed a few times, support has gotten worse, and there's been a few glitches and issues (most notably with the whois privacy problems).

I too am starting to move domains out of there. I still have about 20 left that are being moved out at renewal time.

Domain transfers to name.com are $8.25 right now and they have an affiliate program. Dynadot is another favorite with an affiliate program. I also really like internet.bs but there's no affiliate program there, although they do offer API access.

Pretty sure baddog was referring to Godaddy . I'm waiting for Daddyhalbucks to come in and tell us all how great Moniker is.

I have 250 domains with Moniker and never had any issue. The few ones i had were always solved fast by email.

I wonder if i should start to get worried...

Are you a reseller?

What are your prices?

Control panel allow allow mass updates? Sort domains into categories?

Phone support hours or email support only?

Affiliate program? How many levels?

all you suckers that were posting and moving away from Godaddy and other services to Moniker a few years back... no look at Moniker no support and closing affiliate. Move you domains now before that ship sinks.

Godaddy live phone support 24/7 and you gotta love the coupon codes. Or you can always go with NameCheap just as good but not as many coupon codes

Very true but GoDaddy will take domains for no reason as we have seen on this msg board.

I would still never purchase a domain at GoDaddy

I have had a mainstream client get screwed with a domain worth close to $100k less than 3 years ago and others hassled beyond imagination.

All issues were eventually worked out after tons of time and effort and the valuable one ended up on the open market after they refused to renew it and tried to sell it back for more than $20k to us.

Problems with Yahoo domains had to be worked out with a shit hole company in Australia which was also a huge pain in the ass. Yes. yahoo was a reseller and I will never work with one again.

true but Godaddy is a company you can actually sue and talk to a manager or supervisor. small companies can packup and be gone in and hour leaving the customer emailing and posting on boards hoping to get support/advice

Who wants to get hassled and sue over a company taking your domain? Nobody wants to deal with that bullshit.

I wonder what % of domains lost to GoDaddy was their fault vs the guy that forgot to pay attention to the 37 alerts GoDaddy sends warning your domain is about to expire.

Yes, I receive numerous notices leading up to a domain's expiration, I think as much as 60 or 90 days in advance. Certainly there is ample time to renew from he time the notices start. My rep would even call me to make sure I was aware of upcoming domain expirations and would offer to take care of them for me on the phone using my credit card on file.

The one thing anyone can do to ensure their domains do not expire, is set the option to auto renew, and keep your payment details up to date. Problem solved in terms of renewals.

Not always. We had more than 30 days left and they would not renew it and update the information and kept stalling until it expired. Once expired they tried to sell it to us.

I have also seen other issues where rightful owners lost their domains.

No domain company should ever be used that doesn't have an "auto renew" feature and your most valuable domains should always renewed for no less than 5 years at a crack.

I would still never purchase a domain at GoDaddy
GoDaddy is the only registrar I've ever had major problems with also. Never again. Their incompetence was unbelievable.

There was a long story to that domain that we already owned for 4 years at that point. We needed to change some of the who is info (from one of our email accounts on another domain that to domain we tried to renew) and billing information from an employees PO box to our company address (also listed on the site). No on the changes held and kept on reverting back and Godaddy could not tell us why. They claimed no one was changing it back.

Desperate to make sure the domain would not expire and calling / and emailing them they said unless payment was accepted by them it would drop. We offered money wires, bank checks any credit card they wanted or payment method and not to even change the whois at this point...just don't let the name expire.

They wouldn't take anything and when expired offered the name to us. after exerting legal pressure at a significant cost (site never went down) they changed everything, accepted payment and we transferred that and 20 plus other domains to moniker.

Whee I would have pounded Godaddy and sue them for costs and looked into it as a criminal mater, the owner of the company was happy to get the name and felt the expense was worth paying out of pocket. He never freaked out and was sure that "god would take care of me".

I've been using domain.com and am happy with the service and their site set up.
