So I think it is pretty safe to say that religion is embedded in this country at least as much as hockey is in yours.

I'm glad somebody admits the christians were responsible for committing genocide on the Native Americans. Hell is running out of room with all these christians.

God exists with probability 1/(H+1):
http://arxiv.org/pdf/1206.6752

Also is there one or many gods? The number of gods in a universe must equal the Euler characteristics of its underlying manifold:
http://arxiv.org/pdf/1203.6902

Guys first will lean how to power on a PC, and after how to be a webmaster, right?
So guys should first study the known phisics and math, and after try to understand god

It's funny when people bash Romney for being a Mormon, but pay no attention that Obama is a Christian and has been part of a radical Christian church for over 20 years. They essentially believe the same thing.

Matter of fact...Jefferson was more of a Deist than a Christian.

Our country has become religiously fanatical in modern times (the last 70 years or so).
They were Puritan-leaning Pilgrims. The Church of England was cracking down. They came here to practice their religion.

I did not say the Pilgrims drafted the Declaration of Independence, I was pointing out that 156 years later religion was important enough that they mentioned in the beginning and as I recall, they even brought it up in the Constitution. What was it, the 1st Amendment?

You have Jefferson as your one example that religion was not a major part of the formation of this country?

Lloyd...do some research.

Washington, Franklin, and many others were NOT religious men. I mentioned Jefferson because he is THE main man when it comes to the constitution of the U.S.
But believe whatever you want.

I'll leave you with a few quotes:
?The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion? -George Washington

"Lighthouses are more helpful then churches" ? Benjamin Franklin

?This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it? -John Adams

Too bad our politicians of modern times are such pussies that they can't speak their minds like the founding fathers did.

I wonder why it is that they allowed the Constitution and Declaration of Independence to contain such language. You are right, anyone can find a few quotes; validating their authenticity would be a pain in the ass. I am just quoting those two documents and refreshing your memory about the Pilgrims (which was a religion, just for the record). I don't doubt that there was not a 100% agreement, but they signed it and pledged to follow it.

Okay Lloyd, I'll try one more time. This is from the website usconstitution.net :

"It has often been seen on the Internet that to find God in the Constitution, all one has to do is read it, and see how often the Framers used the words "God," or "Creator," "Jesus," or "Lord." Except for one notable instance, however, none of these words ever appears in the Constitution, neither the original nor in any of the Amendments. The notable exception is found in the Signatory section, where the date is written thusly: "Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven". The use of the word "Lord" here is not a religious reference, however. This was a common way of expressing the date, in both religious and secular contexts. This lack of any these words does not mean that the Framers were not spiritual people, any more than the use of the word Lord means that they were. What this lack of these words is expositive of is not a love for or disdain for religion, but the feeling that the new government should not involve itself in matters of religion. In fact, the original Constitution bars any religious test to hold any federal office in the United States. "

Funny how people today call the ancient religions "Mythology" but our new bullshit about "jesus" is "real".

You're smart, but just because people use God to try to control other people doesn't mean God does or doesn't exist or that God cosigned them actions or not. Feel me? I'm agnostic. All I am saying is to read the preamble to the Declaration of Independence and read what the first amendment says. You can argue all you want. I don't need to argue as I am only stating fact.

As far as those that mock the "magic underwear" I have to ask if you have a clue as to what that is about and if you do, how can you possibly mock someone for that? Seriously, one thing wrong with it.

So what is this thing bigger than all of us. Some thing that talks to certain people to pass on or a mass of chemicals?

God is used to fill in the gaps of Evolution. It used to be some Genesis story in the Bible, which is now so discredited we've taught our daughter to ask questions of it. Now all that's not been explained is what created, what created the Big Bang.

Keeping people ignorant and not asking questions has been religions teachings from the beginning.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/...+3&version=NIV

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_of..._good_and_evil

Today anyone who questions the utterances of a church is ridiculed or even killed. That can be easily proved and seen everywhere.

Has religion progressed beyond the days when people were burned at the stake for worshipping their myth in a different way. Or being burned for questioning a religions dogma?

Galileo Galilei was not the first or last. Read what a religion did to suppress the truth.

Quote:
Galileo was found "vehemently suspect of heresy", namely of having held the opinions that the Sun lies motionless at the centre of the universe, that the Earth is not at its centre and moves, and that one may hold and defend an opinion as probable after it has been declared contrary to Holy Scripture. He was required to "abjure, curse and detest" those opinions.
He was sentenced to formal imprisonment at the pleasure of the Inquisition.
On the following day this was commuted to house arrest, which he remained under for the rest of his life.
His offending Dialogue was banned; and in an action not announced at the trial, publication of any of his works was forbidden, including any he might write in the future.
He escaped the stake, others were not so lucky. For believing in the truth. The truth religion wanted to ignore.

You could try Google; but I will dumb it down for you so it is easy to understand. Magic underwear are nothing like magic join links.

Remember as a child they used to say if you tied a piece of string on your finger it would help you remember to do something? Well, the magic underwear is the exact same theory, except they are to remind you to be kind to your fellow man.

So you need to wear two pairs. Or is calling me dumb being kind? As you said try Google. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_underpants nothing there about being kind.

Mormonism is so twisted and separate from what Christians and science teach it's absurd.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Mormon
Quote:
The Book of Mormon is a sacred text of the Latter Day Saint movement that adherents believe contains writings of ancient prophets who lived on the American continent from approximately 2200 BC to AD 421.[1][2] It was first published in March 1830 by Joseph Smith as The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi.[3]
Utter fantasy. It's there to appeal to the ego of Americans. America then was a wilderness, populated by rudimentary tribes or Hunter Gather tribes. None were converted to Christianity or Mormonism. No evidence of these prophets has ever been found and never will be found. The only places to go were the centres of power in those times. Not to tribes who wandered around or had a very rudimentary life style. Or more importantly cultures that were destined to die out.

not only that but mormons believe that god cursed the indians brown (they were originally white and from israel) and also believe that all black people are descendants of cain as god cursed him black for killing abel (black people weren't allowed to hold the 'priesthood' in mormon religion until the late 70's because of this). however, while these beliefs seems strange if they were the 'mainstream' religious beliefs they wouldn't seem strange at all because all religious beliefs are strange and don't make sense if you look at it objectively.

If this god was a god. The last thing he would of done was go to America to teach Indians about Christianity.

1. If he did he did a shitty job.

2. The Indians were mostly wiped out by European descendants taking their land. He would of been better off going to Ireland if he wanted Christianity in the US. Or didn't he know that?

3. The centres of power in those days were China, Egypt and Rome. He could of gone there, shown he was the true risen Messiah and preached his teaching to people who could make a difference in the known world and saved millions of lives. That have been lost every day since with people arguing over which way to worship this one god.

It's like Jews being "the chosen people". They've had a raw deal since that was put upon them. But it did give them the excuse to murder tens of thousand and steal their land. Read the papers and bible for proof. Also it allows them to feel superior over their fellow man.

Dear idiot: I was addressing the "magic underwear." nothing more. I am not Mormon, I do not believe the story behind the Book of Mormon; I am not going to attempt to support their story. Now, stick to the subject or up your meds.

I have to wonder if you wrote Eastwood's RNC speech.

Mormons

No matter how much I've tried, my GF will not show me or let me scan the letter, she got at 15 for excommunication. Something about being hauled into a tribunal and telling the big cheeses to GFY, as they all seemed to have the hots for her brother.
Crazy part, is to this day she won't swear on a bible, but will swear on a "Stack of Mormons."

John boi, why do you believe that your un proven belief system is any more valid than mainstream religion ?

I know your faith is strong and I respect you for that, but is that all it is ?

(and I am specifically talking about reptiles and aliens here)

Seems like everyone here is pretty logical and intelligent. That makes me happy!

I am an atheist myself, and I typically don't care to argue about religion much. The only thing that really fires me up is when people try to legislate their own dogmas on everyone. I embrace empirical facts over things that would have to be taken from a faith-based position.

That's all I have to say!

I might add that if you are religious or have beliefs in any god, we wouldn't agree but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be friendly or nice to you...

Adding to my earlier post:

I recently had a disagreement in a bar (yeah, smart, right?) with someone who kept pushing the issue, telling me that I was an idiot for believing that we came from monkeys (ha!) and when I attempted to explain what my true position is, he kept dismissing it and telling me that he was offended by my views that we all came from monkeys. That fires me up too.

It doesn't take much searching to see all the Messiahs that are being thrown up. Some more successful than others, all with the aims of controlling people and/or making money. With a few who want multiple wives and some young ones.

More here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...movements#List

It makes it easy to see why they spring up. People not happy with their lives wanting a magical cure. Or people who need some mythical belief to hang all the responsibilities on. Plus those who want to control others and the straight madmen.

At the time of Jesus you can see the truth behind the Life of Brian. Messiahs were popping up all the time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Messiah_claimants

I contend that we are both an atheist. I just belive in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.

I have proof that if there is a god he is a cunt.
God showed himself to Moses (Noah etc......) (according to the bible) and he's (they) getting into heaven, (Supposedly)
But I have to go on pure faith that he exists and if I don't believe this (and Jesus stuff) I go to hell.
So I'm going to hell (supposedly)
GOD IS A CUNT FOR PLAYING FAVORITES WITH HIS CREATIONS!!!! GIVE PROOF TO ALL OR NONE...............

In the begining there was nothing and god made something out of nothing and now there is something.

In the begining there was nothing and now there is something.

See how nicely that works out? Same results with less bullshit and manipulation by the power hungry bastards who use faith and religion to control and profit from stupid people.

I'm not going to get into the whole where did god supposedly come from thing here.
Did I mention that god is a cunt here yet?
