Hot Sauce - what's your fave?

The girlfriend likes Franks Red Hot, and I don't really like the flavor of that one. I'm not a big fan of buffalo wings and it really reminds me of that. I also don't think it's very hot.

Today I picked up Tobasco green Jalapeno which I've never had before. It's mild but has a great flavor. I had it on a mexican pizza and can't wait to try it on tacos.

Anything out there that has a great flavor with more of a kick?

What's your favorite hot sauce?

heat AND flavor? I'm not a big fan of the "vinegar + fire" and prefer flavor also, so it sounds like something I'll like. I've had hot sauce at Thai places but wasn't sure if it was Siracha or not.... but I'll pick up a bottle next time I'm at the store

I actually enjoy plain old tomato sauce, with added spices.

i use franks, tabasco or texas pete (cheaper versions) as most would use salt. doesn't feel spicy to me but enough to get me buy for some lacking simpler foods. I'll use siracha occasionally and its alright but that is more about a quick burn but kind of weak on overall flavour. These days i have ramped up so high with the hot stuff I kind of have to come up with my own concoctions using fresh habanero's, jalepenos and mini chili's.

I made a chili with those, some pablano's and some chopped stewing beef and it was so hot it burned my gf's eyes from across the kitchen. I didn't know that spicy foods could go airborn!! It was damn good though. burned up the peppers a bit which gave it a nice smokey flavour.

We have a couple local ones that are pretty good.

Also have a boxed Salsa Mexicana that is an excellent add to things requiring tomato sauce.

It is actually very good. Not extremely hot, + it has flavor, tobasco just has the heat. But the flavor itself sucks.

that's a myth. capsaicin has not only been proven that it doesn't cause ulcers, there's even evidence that it can help prevent them, as they help keep bacteria levels in check etc--however that doesn't mean that it may not aggravate an existing one though.

i'll eat blairs every now and then, its not bad. i even have one of the skulls on my key chain still...

Normally, I use hot sauce on almost everything daily, so prefer the ones that are more 'flavored' like Franks, Tobasco (I also like that green version), etc...

However when I actually want something HOT, I use these (have 'em on my desk right now)

Not like you can find much hot sauce variety here in Costa Rica though.

While we're talking about hot sauces, here's my homemade JERK CHICKEN RUB recipe:
(I was married to a Jamaican/Chinese girl for 8 years, and her family always asked me to BBQ chicken!!)

** keep in mind that i make it to taste. so these are rough measurements.

6 sprigs of scallions
4 - 6 tblspns of ground allspice to taste (pimento)
half the juice of a grapefruit (you can sub half a orange and a lime for juice)
2 - 4 scotch bonnet peppers (4 is fucking hot for this size batch!)
1/4 to 1/2 cup olive oil (depending on consistency, be sure not to make it greasy)
2 - 3 tbl spoons of Braggs organic soy sauce
2 tspn of fresh thyme
1 tspn of ground cinnamon
1/2 tspn of ground nutmeg
1 tblspn of ground black pepper
4 - 6 cloves of fresh garlic
1/4 cup organic cider vinegar
1 teaspoon of Grace* caramel (or brown sugar)
1 tspn salt

Blend the living shit out of it! -- and then let it sit for at least 24 hours in fridge before using!

For best results, rub liberally into the chicken, and refrigerate overnight before grilling.
