And so it begins NSA secret wiretap info used by DEA

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSBRE97409R20130805?irpc=932

A secret division of the DEA has been using the NSA wiretaps to go after suspected drug dealers then covering up how they got the information.

The FBI has also been "publicly" clamoring to use the same data.. But let's just assume they already are using it in secrecy.

This country has officially become a police state. The govt and it's police agencies no longer care about the Constitution. This shit is actually happening.

Well I guess it's official, not only is the DEA and FBI using the NSA wiretaps data but so is the CIA which I assume goes with out saying but also the IRS has access as does Homeland security.

Quote:
The unit of the DEA that distributes the information is called the Special Operations Division, or SOD. Two dozen partner agencies comprise the unit, including the FBI, CIA, NSA, Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Homeland Security. It was created in 1994 to combat Latin American drug cartels and has grown from several dozen employees to several hundred.

It took awhile but 1984 is here.

The book is no longer fiction but has become the manual for how to run the American government.

many departments of our government not only refuse to work together/cooperate, they've been known to sabotage each other as well. it's pretty sad that with infrastructure issues, bank bullshit, etc. et al on & on, everything, the one area our gov works together on is sharing snooped data.

I say this every time:
They are using fear of "terrorism" to ratchet up the "War On Drugs" started by Richard Nixon (which is a "war" against our own citizens).

There is a giant multi-billion dollar prison industry that needs new customers.

When I really step back from it and look at the big picture...it all boils down to this in my mind: Why are we having the govt. tell us what we are "allowed" to party on anyway? People have taken recreational drugs since the beginning of time. It's just something that people enjoy doing.
Why should the govt. be arresting people for smoking weed? Or doing a line of coke?

I always hear the govt. approved line of reasoning: Because of all the crime and damage to society that would happen if grown men and women were "allowed" to do what they want.

Well guess what? People do drugs anyway. And people with addictive physiology are going to get addicted no matter what.
And the 99.999% of people without addictive tendencies will continue to use drugs recreationally...just like we do alcohol (not counting the tiny percentage of alcoholics who fall into that category of addictive tendency)

Meanwhile...how many lives are being destroyed by the govt. arresting them for smoking pot and RUINING their lives? They lose their jobs, they lose everything. How in the hell does that NOT hurt our society?

I'm tired of being treated like a child because the vast majority of people are held to the standards of the Lowest Common Denominator (addictive physiology people)

Both weed and prostitution are legal in Amsterdam. Where's all the out of control crime being caused by that?

Scare tactics is what our govt. uses. And the prison industry lobbyists are pushing harder every day to put more citizens in prison.

That's why we have more of our own citizens in jail than any country on the face of the Earth.

I was taught as a child that it was China, and Soviet Union, and North Korea, and Cuba who imprisoned their citizens and took away their freedoms.

And yet WE are the ones with more of our people in jail than any of those "evil" countries.

My guess is you're gonna have a great time there.

The infrastructure and automobiles will be out of date of course. But that's because The U.S. has kept them isolated from the rest of the world for 50 years.

If the U.S. would stop it's policies towards Cuba they would be able to once again openly join the world's economy and bring their country some prosperity again.

We make sure that they are crippled financially because that was supposed to get the people to rise up against Castro.

It hasn't worked in 50 years...but I guess we will just keep on bullying them until Casto and his brother are both dead.

i'm going with a Cuban friend, he told me a lot has changed already the last 1-2 years

people can now have private businesses, new cars are available, people can travel more

since this year he's allowed back in without any hassle - even though he's officially a "traitor" since he didn't return home after studying in Spain

but yeah, once the Castros die, a lot more will change. Thats why we're going now ;)

here's a pic from today from Havana

Yeah, back before the "revolution"...Havana was bigger than Vegas.

It's only 90 miles from Key West. About a half hour plane jump from Miami to Havana.

Used to be packed with American's gambling in all the mob controlled casinos in Havana.

I hope to one day get to go down and visit. But I'm sure that the U.S. will make sure it's nothing like the "old days" (lots of fun) and will be more homogenized and "family friendly"

Think about what you just typed and then think about how big and powerful the mob was back in the 50s. Then think again why Cuba is cut off.

I'm not sure what you're asking?

Cuba is cut off because the U.S. govt. wanted to get the people to rise up. So they are unable to trade openly on the world market...for a lot of years we had a naval embargo on them (our warships surrounding the island) so the Soviets couldn't supply them with weapons (and of course anything else that the people might need).

I was actually alive (just a baby) during the Cuban Missile Crisis and I grew up with all the propaganda about how "evil" Cuba was and how the people are so oppressed.

Then a quick few clicks on Google in 2013 and you find out that we here in the U.S. have the most people in prison.

We accuse them of having "political prisoners" (I think they now have 90 "political prisoners" in Cuba)...meanwhile, here in the U.S. : if those people were doing the same thing here we would be calling them "terrorists" and have them in prison too.

Like Bill Maher said recently I believe.. about Boston. They had a tragic bombing and before sunset they suddenly had an army than effectively blocked off the entire city with troop transports, full body armor and enough weaponry to take over whatever they wanted. I believe he asked, when the fuck did they get an army? We're a police state already was his point and if someone had doubts that should have put them to rest.

Meyer-Lansky ruled Cuba behind the scenes, Batista was a CIA puppet that helped Meyer-Lansky to rape the country.

at some point people were fed up and so the revolution began

The "people" are easily brainwashed.

Cuba went from being a beautiful prosperous country with millions of dollars in tourism to a disaster.

And yes, it's the fault of the U.S. govt that it went down so hard in the 60's and 70's.

Hell, who knows...maybe Communism would have worked if the United States govt. hadn't crippled the economy of every country who ever tried it.

Good to hear that they are finally making some headway towards some prosperity again.
Here in the U.S. we've had a fairly shitty economy since 2008.

I can't imagine having a completely destroyed economy for over FIFTY years.

That is correct.

My old college roommate works for HLS and has confirmed this many times over. Anything that one government agency gets, they all can have access too. Yes, they still have to go through a some procedure to do it, but FBI, HLS, IRS, all of them can basically gain access to that same information.

If they can't nail you on terrorism through HLS, they will nail you on tax fraud through the IRS, etc..

That part of Germany is still hurting? I didn't know that. I have a brother-in-law stationed over in Germany (you know, in our military bases there because we STILL haven't left since WW2), and he told me Germany is great to be in.

I had no idea that the old East Germany part was still hurting. Here in the U.S. I remember reading how the economy had taken off when the wall came down. So much for "news" in the U.S.

We've had a fairly shitty economy since 2008 and before that we had an excruciatingly shitty economy since 2000.

yeah, well, they rebuilt a lot - but killed all industry in the process. thats why you have like 6% unemployment in western germany and up to 20+% in eastern germany

many smart people left from east to west to go where the money is - that left the old, stupid and unhappy people in the east who sit there and tell fairytales how everything was better in communist times

i lived 3 years in eastern germany - hardly ever felt so happy when i moved from there to CZ

The infrastructure is in fact just maintained... No new big projects have been done for nearly 40 years.

As for cars, they have modern cars ( Kia, Hunday, Toyota, etc..)for those that can afford them. And they have great buses ( for the tourists... ) from China.

No american cars aside from those classics of the 50's.

The story the OP posted about got about 2 minutes on CNN today, A-Rod got 20 minutes.

And here on GFY the "Cuban Food" angle has gotten more response than the original story about the death of our constitutional rights got.

We deserve what's happening to us.

It just pissed me off that the loss of our rights gets pushed aside so easily.

Plus that image of cuban food drove it home that I hadn't tasted any since I left South Florida a few years ago and made me really hungry for some, then you had to go repost the fucking thing.

it was more than I could take

I'll try not to be serious from here on out, not looking to mess with the FF

i messin back with ya man. tbh, i'm not sure what more else i can say to add to the topic, typically my view on these sorts of things is slightly aligned off from others and that creates some dialogue but here not really much to do that with, as i mentioned earlier, i find it just icing on the shit cake about our governments failures.

p.s. 1 of my post was bump to the top gesture when i noticed this thread toward the bottom of my screen.

I do know one thing, this thread has caused me to make a decision about my near future in this country.

That future has me this weekend heading here for this

And it's all your fault!
