Anybody else here enjoy bashing the horrible epidemic that is "Crossfit" (CrossShit)?

I know making a facebook group would have been the more conventional way of doing this, but I like G+ in that it's more public and easier to join and post to communities, and animated .gifs actually work.

Crossfit like regular gym workouts can be dangerous. You should see some of the idiots in my gym swinging the weights around like they are doing something good. And the members of the gym are just as bad.

If you catch my meaning.

Honestly Crossfit is just as good for you as a regular gym, providing its done correctly and carefully.

like any other fad workout that comes around I take what's good from it, skip what I think is dumb or dangerous, and turn it into something of my own.

bashing it completely right now is JUST as big a fad as the workouts themselves though. Everyone assuming that its a bunch of pregnant women in there or a bunch of non athletes doing it with horrible form. The workouts themselves came from olympic athlete training, gymnasts, wrestlers.. Pretty much the most complete athletes out there, but like anything else there are horrible teachers and horrible students and they stick out just as bad as the regular guys in the gym who have been doing it wrong for years so no difference from my perspective.

What is more funny about the cult-like following it has, is the actual cult leader that started crossfit. There cannot possibly be another business person on this planet that's failed upwards more than him.... an over the hill, unintelligent hippy, with no clue about anything who doesn't even keep financial records. He just licenses the name and they certify trainers with their own made up certification.

His entire explanation of crossfit in one interview I watched with him was "I was watching personal trainers for years and realized they were doing it wrong" and that's it. There was nothing about anything he said that even remotely suggested he had a clue about anything fitness related.

Since there is no actual crossfit program that has been defined to my knowledge and all users of the name are basically just doing what they want, it's not proper to dismiss it as being good or bad.

I don't care for Crossfit and I do agree that it is overhyped, but your statement is wrong.

Those "dumb bitches" are not as dumb as you think they are. Essentially it boils down to not exceeding the fitness levels and corresponding weights for each excercise that they have reached pre-pregnancy. If maintenance is the goal, not gains, working out/lifting weights is perfectly fine and is a great way for women to maintain a good physique while pregnant (in addition to many other benefits).

The thing I don't like is that they try to occupy more than one piece of equipment at a time. And a general complaint about the gym...

If you're going to use the squat rack, then please do some motherfucking squats.!!!! The rack is for squatting...not forearm curls.

But I have enjoyed using one crossfit/powerlifting move in my workouts. Hang cleans.

there's a crossfit dedicated gym 2+ blocks from my place, they think they own the sidewalk when their doing what I assume are intervals of running + resistance. The front of the place is a rollup door and they'll come blasting out of there at full clip and look irritated if you're walking there at the time.

I'm all for health and fitness but do health and fitness and don't be a born again christian about it.

There's a place in my neighborhood also, and I enjoy watching the 15 or so girls who are always running in the vicinity.

where you do your shoulder press then? seated sucks. Just find a gym with more racks, if yours only has 1 or 2 that is never enough.

Actually, I don't do much direct shoulder work except for rear delts.

There was a guy on the squat rack next to me trying to fake out some reps with 2 plates....and his back was hunched over, and his heels were off the ground. It looked so bad I almost told him he's going to hurt himself with that form. But that's probably one the douchiest gym moves, so I kept my mouth shut.

Just watch some youtube vids before you go trying to squat.

My gym needs one of those number ticket machines at the squat racks. It's like in the last few years, everyone got the memo that squatting is good for you -- but it makes for some painful to watch sets at the rack.

And I don't care at all about having a visible six pack I'm not training for aesthetics, but functional strength by doing a lot of strongman stuff. I think you can tell I'm more focused on strength by the shape of my biceps being thick from top to bottom instead of just pumped in the middle and bigger than average forerarms from grip strength training.

That's about where I am right now, but a little thinner. Once I got to this stage (around 13% body fat), the progress has slowed down exponentially. It's going to take me until the end of summer to get my abs to show.
