I really thought Donny would get some heat from the Nancy Grace type shows. His story seems tailor made for sensationalist journalists to run wild. Now with him representing himself this will be ratings gold!

I get the feeling that Donny feels he will be able to get the girls on the stand and get them to tell everyone that they made the whole thing up or he will be able to put himself on the stand and explain how this is all a big misunderstanding.

One thing is for sure, there is a reason even seasoned attorneys don't represent themselves in cases. Donny's ship was already sinking, this is like him blowing a hole in the bottom of the boat.

You might of heard of "porn and pancakes". That was Donny doing the speaking at those anti porn events after he found God or de died he would take money from suckers..

What Donny most likely doesn't understand is that there is a massive amount of evidence against him. I don't know this for a fact, but I am guessing every email, every text, and every website he ever viewed has come under scrutiny. Stuff that he has long since forgotten about will come out in court, and Donny will have no defense for it at all.

For example, one of the items mentioned in the news articles was that Donny had bought the girls "sexy lingerie". To the best of our knowledge, Donny hasn't had a love interest in years, which will lead the jury to believe he bought the lingerie for one of the girls - he bought lingerie for a teenage girl that was living with him? That might seem normal to Donny, but not in the eyes of a jury. Even less so after it's established that he worked in the porn industry.

I am also sure that every text Donny ever sent any of these girls will come up in court too.

Not defending Donny in any way but from my experience (someone who has represented himself successfully in 2 cases) judges do frown upon it because quite frankly they don't want to have to teach you during the case/trial. Otherwise there is no other reason. No attorney is going to be able do some of the things I did during mine because they are first and foremost working for the court and secondly you the client.

From the first question I had the officer on the stand fumbling. The judge got so mad at me when I called him out on one of his mistakes (something he does all the time that is technically illegal for him to do) which no attorney would dare to do he almost leaped off the fucking bench and came at me. I hired a very well seasoned high dollar attorney recently to represent me in another matter and from day one I told him he wasn't going to be able to do what he promised he would. End result, I was right, he was wrong. I knew the law better. Attorney's are just ordinary people "practicing" law. 99% of the time they are just playing mediators.

Donny however shouldn't be representing himself in such a serious matter. But, my guess is there's no way in hell a prosecutor is going to allow him to question the girls and that's very likely his angle..

I have a feeling he will get a chance to question the girls on the stand. Recently in one of the articles posted her it said they were combining the three cases against him into one trial because they had similar evidence and witnesses and it could keep the girls from having to testify 3 times. That said, I don't think his cross examination of them is going to go nearly how he thinks it will.

While I completely agree with what you are saying, do you mind sharing what you represented yourself in? I have represented myself at traffic court for example, but I would never do that for a criminal trial, even if I felt competent enough to manage the nuts and bolts of trial procedure and had a deep knowledge of the case law precedents.

I think Donny should plead "not guilty by reason of insanity". And I bet his defense plea will be so crazy as it will prove that he is right. ;)

They combined the trials, his attorney told him to plea because he's fucked and Donny fired him. That's the way that I see it went down. I don't give him credit enough to have planned anything. But that's probably his thinking now. And I'd bet if he does make it that far representing himself something will happen before they put those girls on a stand in front of him. Way too much could go wrong even outside of emotional and psychological breakdowns.

Both felony charges but nothing near as serious as what Donny is facing. In my cases after they saw what I did to the cop and the judge during preliminary they dragged it out nearly 2 years making offer after offer (that I kept shooting down) trying to keep from going to trial because they knew they couldn't control what I may or may not do in front of a jury. Also it's real easy to make up a story when you are talking to a third person but it's not so easy when you have to look directly at that person. I'm not saying that these girls are lying. I am saying that the cop was in my matter and why they couldn't let it go to trial.

The crazy thing about Donny is he literally admitted to part of the charges during a jailhouse interview with a local television news reporter. I am predicting 20 to 25 year sentence.

A good clue that Donny won't make it very far representing himself and he has no fucking clue what he is doing is him trying to make motions in open court. The judge having to tell him those sorts of things won't last very long. At the very least they will appoint him some sort of advisory counsel.

Not only that but his story has changed. I remember reading in one place (might be his letters posted on here or in an interview) that he said that prison guard did ask him to have sex with his daughter while he watched and Donny said he turned him down. He also said he didn't turn him in because he thought he could help him through the church. Then later he was flat out denying that he was ever asked.

Give him a gun and 1 bullet and let him sentence himself. Cost way less in tax payers money

Pauling wins trial delay

Donny Pauling won his first motion representing himself Thursday when a Sutter County judge agreed to postpone his trial to give him more time to prepare.

Judge Susan E. Green pushed back the Sept. 29 trial date to Dec. 1.

Charged with 19 counts of unlawful sex acts against three teen girls, Pauling fired attorney Roberto Marquez last week and began to represent himself.

Pauling, who said he left the pornography business in 2006, said he needed additional time because he only has two hours a day to work in the jail's law library. His bail is $1,025,000.

"I still don't know what I don't know yet," he told Green.

Deputy District Attorney Anu Chopra objected to postponing the trial, called it a delaying tactic and argued the victims were ready to testify. Thirty-five witnesses would have to be resubpoenaed to appear.

"Tell me why if I don't grant the continuance and he's convicted, this won't be reversed on appeal," Green asked Chopra before granting the motion.

The possibility of a plea deal was also briefly discussed. Pauling rejected a seven-year prison deal. He would serve at least half of the time, Chopra said.

They plan to continue plea negotiations.

Pauling filed a list of witnesses he intends to call, and while describing what testimony or evidence those individuals would provide, he said many were religious leaders who could speak about his character and his behavior around teenage girls.

Pauling named a few witnesses he said would testify they heard an alleged victim threaten to accuse Pauling of the current charges.

He plans to call a psychologist, who would testify Pauling spoke with him in 2011 about an erectile dysfunction that would prevent Pauling from performing some of the acts he is accused of engaging in with underage girls, he said. Pauling is charged with statutory rape.

This story is so muddled with drugs, kids, sheriffs, God, etc.. they will just want it over. By offering 7 years, hes looking at 3.5 in jail, hes already done 1. So Id think he is close to taking a deal and being out in another year.

I apologize for being an armchair lawyer, giving a knee jerk response. I think you are right.

Either way this is a mess, Donny sure has a way on being able to unintentionally entertain so much.

They offered him 50% off sentence already.. so thats 3.5 years served. Hes already done 1. This will plea out, its a mess to handle this. Im sure all the witnesses and sadly victims are drugged out Jesus freaks. And don't even get started on dragging the Sherrif stuff in front of a jury.

I don't see reason for anybody here to be subpoenaed, other than possibly 1 or 2 people who knew him a bit more....Intimately. Other than me, I don't know of anybody else who has had any face to face contact with him since he left adult. I haven't been contacted by anybody about the case. Several months back I contacted one of his best friends about all this. He didn't have much to say other than he hardly saw Donny over the last few years.

I thought about attending the trial but considering it involves underage kids, I'd guess it's not something that will be open to the public.

I disagree. Speaking in public is one thing, testifying against unexpected questions he cannot defend himself against will be difficult if not impossible. He will be woefully unprepared for this.

Not being able to get it up is not the same as not being able to have sex.

If his entire defense will be "I couldn't have had sex with these girls because I couldn't get it up" he is in big trouble.

I think he looks horrible. Then again, a year in jail will do that to you.
