Texas AG ignores Supreme Court ruling

Seems like the Texas Attorney General seems to think it's possible for him to not obey the recent Supreme Court ruling about gay marriage.

Texas AG: State workers can deny marriage licenses to gay couples - Hanna Trudo - POLITICO

I find this utterly amazing. It's just amazing that any government official anywhere feels they can ignore a ruling by the highest court of the law because it fails to adhere to their personal beliefs.

Just fucking stunning.

I predict 7 to 9 years before every State actually does issue marriage licenses to gay couples seeking one. Look at school desegregation in the South after Brown v Board of Education ruling. The President had to actually send in armed troops to enforce the SCOTUS ruling so that black students could physically enter the previous all white highschools.

Stop attaching gay rights to slavery, civil war, Jim Crow, lynchings, police brutality and racial profiling.

Just say it's discrimination; don't try to equate it with being black.

Well it didn’t take the pigheads in this world long to react.

IT’S THEIR JOB! IF THEY DON’T DO THEIR JOB THEY SHOULD BE DISMISSED!

Same sex marriage is now the law of the land. It is now the duty of each state and municipality to uphold it or they will face Federal consequences.

I wonder how fast guys like this will change their tune if the Federal government starts threatening to deny the state Federal funding if they don’t respect the court’s decision?

The legal fights are coming. In one city in Louisiana they are trying to argue that giving out gay marriage licenses is against their religion and therefore they shouldn't have to do it. In another city (I think in Texas, but that might not be correct) they have just stopped giving out all marriages licenses.

People don't get their way and they throw a tantrum.

Comparing that to 300 years of American slavery is why some people just think your cause is a joke.
Stick to the fucking country we are in; because if you think blacks would be doing better in "AssFuckistan" then you're crazy.

I'm sorry, how long were you a slave?

Im Sicilian, we were considered “black” in the South and were subjected to the Jim Crow laws of segregation. We weren’t allowed to marry “whites.” .
We were designated as “black” on census forms if we lived in the South and that is because the majority of us were dark-skinned Sicilians.

Mass lynchings happened to them often. One of the biggest mass lynchings happened to Italians in New Orleans when they thought that a Italian immigrant had killed a “white” police officer.

. Do you know how much time I spend thinking about it or taking about it? 0. I wasn't even born yet.

Stop stealing from black oppression to fight your fight of which hole to put your dick in.

Black guy gets murder and "black lives matter" is coined by blacks and then come the gays to
steal the phrase as "gay lives matter" then try to over shadow the black tragedy.

Nine people get murdered in the church this week just for being black but gays are dancing in the streets because
they can get a marriage certificate.

I agree with the right of gays to marry by the way.

Just stop trying to be Rachel Dolezal.
You're not black just because you had a problem.

You're not black just because you had a problem.
I said youre right, gay people dont get killed or attacked or harassed today at all.

btw did you have to marry someone you didnt want to and be trapped in a life you didnt want for years because you are black?
Did you have to keep being black a secret from your family or risk being thrown out?
Did you have to keep it a secret at work or you might get fired? How did it feel holding a huge secret like that inside, constantly on guard not to let people know?
that must have sucked especially since its just about what hole you put your dick in.

it's cute how adults like rochard are "fucking stunned" by how the real world works.

heads-up

the SC does not make or write laws.

Their job is to interpret laws and ensure the laws are constitutional.

1. Yes, I was in love with a white chick who couldn't marry me because I was black, so ended up with a black bitch I can't stand.

2. Yes, the white chick had to keep the secret that I was black or get kicked out of her family and my house burned down.

3. Yes, my boss didn't believe in interracial dating and openly stated so.
Terrible, and yeah, finally decided to put my dick in a dark colored hole.

Fucking idiot.

Religious belief has no bearing on government workers who work for a gov't where there is separation of church and state. If those workers want to lose their jobs and give them to others, then move over. The law is the law, that's how the constitution works.

a judge over turned popular vote due to personal beliefs so what's the difference? does our vote matter any longer? this is the part where I remind you in 2002 California VOTED not to extend benefits too ILLEGAL aliens and the courts dumped the vote just like California VOTED AGAINST gay marriage and a judge dumped the vote...

1. Just because people vote for something does not necessarily make it constitutionally valid.

2. Marriage is a state power, but it still must comply with 14th Amendment Equal Protection requirements.

Gays and lesbians are now a 'sex[ual orientation]' entitled to rights and the 14th Amendment would apply ...

pls explain how illegal aliens have the constitutional right to welfare benefits...

not a lawyer however I'm willing to state the 14th amendment relates to jobs, education and personal safety, not marriage... if the 14th did apply to marriage this would have been a very vocal argument a long time ago...

this is clearly a case of federal intervention into state matters and states rights are protected under the constitution are they not?

I never said I agreed with any ruling granting welfare benefits for illegal aliens.

Now if you are talking about welfare funds given to support anchor babies, then that is a different story. Anchor babies deserve the same rights as afforded to any other US born citizen.

There is a separation of church and state for a reason. Their argument is ended before if started. If they don't like doing their job, because of religious beliefs then they can get a new job outside the govt.

that's not how it works. the SC simply renders opinions on the constitionality of a law as it applies to a specific case. you can't "disobey" the SC.

They shouldn't have the constitutional right to welfare benefits... However, if the Supreme Court rules they do the local county clerk (or whomever) does not have to the right to obey or disobey the Supreme Court and it's ruling.

It's just like if a state did not recognize marriage whatsoever...that would be legal since marriage power is reserved for the States. And thus that state would not have to recognize same sex marriage. It's only if the State chooses to recognize marriage, then it must recognize both gay and straight marriage.

That would be AWESOME! Then we could start arresting all the politicians who break their oaths of office by shredding our Constitution.

Difference is SCOTUS opinion carries the force of law. Popular opinion does not.

Any state that requires a conceal carry permit is already in violation of the 2nd and 14th.

Popular opinion has nothing to do with this. Anything that goes against the U.S. Constitution is considered treason. 200 years ago, these crooked politicians would already be hanging from a tree. Thanks to "popular opinion", this country has become pussified. Politicians are rarely held accountable for the damage they cause and/or the lies they tell.

Like I said previously, the SCOTUS opinion carries the force of law...popular opinion, and unpopular opinion (like yours), does not.

And those specific things that you think are going against the Constitution? Yup, that's your opinion.

That's why we have the rule of law in this country...as opposed to the rule of a mob, which you seem to be advocating for.

as per usual, the op got it wrong.

the Texas AG didn't ignore the ruling, he defined it for his employees, like any good employer would do.

and he got it right.

Quote:
Paxton individually addressed two sets of people in his Sunday opinion: county clerks and their deputies, who issue licenses, and those who can perform marriages.

He said his office believed state religious freedom laws would allow clerks to refuse to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples if they have sincerely held beliefs that prohibit them from doing so, and if there was someone else present - like a deputy - who would be willing to service the couple.

Judges and justices of the peace, however, should be able to refuse to marry these couples without finding an alternative, said Paxton, because there are others endowed with the ability to perform marriages, like members of the clergy.

"So long as other authorized individuals are willing to conduct same-sex wedding ceremonies, these statutory provisions demonstrate the practical reality that a refusal by a religiously objecting justice of the peace or judge cannot prevent a same-sex couple from participating in a wedding ceremony contemplated by state law," wrote Paxton.

you like to research legal stuff right? you know why peeps born here get citizenship? you'll find the answer interesting... and cally VOTED not to extend welfare to illegal aliens... the vote was over turned by a judge

People are against gay marriage, not against gays.
Have partnerships with the same legal binding, just don't call it marriage.

Respect Texas for standing to this bulshit agenda.
