Like I said it is cultural. Maybe, in Oz you have different laws of guarantees of freedoms (or rights). Again, if you were a 5th grade history student you would know what it takes to change the US Constitution -- to repeal an amendment.

Look it up ...

The US Supreme Court has made numerous decisions on the restrictions of lawfully owned firearms. I think we accept it as the price we pay for the right to bear arms. FYI, people going postal and shooting the place up is a phenomena that began in the 1980s and it is parallel to the general economic decline and inequity that an armed population faces here.

Face it, if that shooter was not a despondent postal nut-case, he committed suicide rather than be taken alive BTW, no one would have died. Cure the disease and not treat the symptoms while the patent dies

How many gang members or street thugs do you think would turn in their guns voluntarily? They would just wait for all the law abiding people to turn in their guns and then declare open season on them.

US coastline is almost as long as Australia's. If you add US coastal borders with land borders the US has a much longer border than Australia's. But that is beside the point. There are far more people crossing by land than coming in by sea. If every illegal in the US right now came in with a gun or two that is tens of millions of illegal guns right there alone.

Well put Eon.

definition of desperation: dynamo accusing a former refugee - me - of being an ethnic cleaner because I fled to serbia, that did not take part in the war at all

hint: its called the bosnian war/war in bosnia because it took part in serbia? LOL

what is a hint you ask? its like a clue, a significant notion based on common sense, its mysterious and puzzles your tiny brain I know but if you concentrate enough you will maybe get to wrap your tiny tiny brain around it

and speaking of ethnic cleansing, the USA dropped more bombs on vietnam than all sides, allies and axis included, and used more chemical weapons than all WW2 and WW1...mother fukka you guys even carpet bombed cambodia just for good measure...and before that you nuked jap fishermen....

tell me, what does the USA have against asians?

ahh dont be mad when foreigners speak up. this is a web forum on an interweb. they talk about america because they sweat america like the media sweats the kardashians. everyone loves america even the haters.

im not sure drug & alcohol bans are good comparables for guns. primarily because drugs & liquor are party necessities for a lot of people. the demand for drugs is insatiable. No matter how much education about drugs is hammered into kids at school, everyone still likes to get drunk get high when its friday night.

Im not sure the same demand would stand for guns. just IMO.

hey anti-American, bosnian serbs carried out the genocide, umm srebrenica, hello, but just like your genocidal komrades, you continue to deny it and exclaim you're a fucking war refugee.

spin it however you need to try and make that bomb crater you sleep in more comfortable.

just like you spin USA dropping more bombs over 20 years v bombs dropped in 4 years.

i'm not the slightest bit mad when foreigners speak up. but i'm not going to not opine when they speak from a place of ignorance in order to justify their ridicule of the USA.

In 1919, Prohibition was marketed as a solution to crime, alcoholism and violence against women. Without ?demon rum,? workers would become more productive and violent tendencies in society would disappear. Proponents believed it was the beginning of a golden age and that the alcohol ban would radically transform society for the good.

Prohibition did radically transform American society, only not in the way the proponents envisioned. Rather, the result was more alcoholism, the beginning of organized crime and a wave of violence like none ever seen before in America. Instead of a golden era, Prohibition unleashed one of the most violent and crime-ridden ages in American history.

Every decade or so, Americans become entranced by the same siren song that produced Prohibition. The song says, ?If you ban it, it will go away.? It croons, ?If we merely strip away our liberties, we?ll all be safer.? History has shown us that this siren song is dangerous.

Gun control proponents like to point out that strict gun control measures in nations like Australia and the United Kingdom have led to fewer mass shootings. This may be true, but what proponents often ignore is how gun control tends to lead to increases in other violent crimes. As is often the case, politicians try to legislate to prevent one problem, but end up creating half-a-dozen new ones in the process.

Since Australia enacted its landmark gun control legislation in 1996, gun-related homicides have declined, but almost every other sort of violent crime has increased. While the homicide rate fell from 1.9 per 100,000 persons to 1.3 from 1996 to 2007, assaults increased from 623 per 100,000 persons to 840 during that same time ? a 35 percent jump. The sexual assault rate likewise increased from 78 per 100,000 persons to 94 ? a 21 percent jump. In other words, for every 0.6 person out of 100,000 who did not fall victim to a homicide, 217 suffered from a violent assault, and another 16 suffered from sexual assault. While it?s impossible to know how much of this shift was the result of the 1996 laws, it is not exactly an overwhelming endorsement of Australia?s gun control regime.

o god
notice how they say clan...a clan is like 3-10 people LOL its not like the bloods and cripps in the USA a clan does not really have "turf" and the geo locations in their names are just where they are from LOL

its amusing that I know most of these people, the biggest "gang" on the list is 10 people strong and they are dead, the police shot them, literally...

surcin clan-zoran sijan former kickboxing buddy of mine=dead
zemun clan-I Know most of them, lived in the same block, the biggest gang serbia ever had, 10 people strong and maybe 2 are still alive and 0 are free, they had no street presence at all, they just imported coke and killed off rivals
saric gang-all in prison they got 40 years
vozdovac-LOL 3-4 dudes who import weed from albania and buy coke from saric
zvezdara-I do not know them so this speaks volumes...ill go bitch slap them around if you wish?
dorcol group-if you had a time machine and went back to the 90-s LOL they are all RIP
karaburma-LOL I did not know they had a clan
rumski gang?!?!?!?!? wtf? first time I ever heard of them and I Know everybody LOL
pecas gang-LOL peconi dude is a money launderer, if he does some coke importing I would not be surprised
arkan was killed like 20 years ago LOL
elez group LOL like 3 people importing coke
zemun clan you mentioned already LOL
kekas group actually operate in brazil but don't let that stand in your way
saric gang again? LOL dude got 40 years
serbian brotherhood??? sounds like a bunch of fags IMO

pink panther is from montenegro...they do high speed jewelry heists...they are not even a gang they do not even have a structure...

dude gangs in the USA have 1000-s of members...they have turf....there is no such thing in my country we have 0 gangs...we have drug dealers but this is not a gang LOL...ok if 3-4 guys selling weed or coke is a gang then LOL

and no I am not a criminal, we are a small country I happen to know lots of politicians, bankers and other criminals as well

serbia is much safer than the USA...before the war the US stoked in our country we were ridiculously safe...

its funny he should say that, during the war he exclaimed that for every killed serb they would kill 100 muslims...he was not in power back then but its hypocritical to the max that he would say that...

still, serbia did not take part in the war at all, and the USA killed millions of asians LOL but it was over a 20 year period so its all kosher

so the 8.000 people killed in srebrenica by para-military is obviously worse than the millions upon millions of asians killed by the official US military, you make such a valid point

I don't know why people are arguing in this thread. Guns = violence. Period. Target practice? OK. So I can better use my weapon to.....kill something (or hit it with a bullet).

Guns = violence. America (and the world?) has become desensitized by violence on TV, video games, the news, constant, never-ending fear via terrorism, etc. Show a nipple and America loses its' mind but watch any American TV drama and it's ALL about guns, blood, death, violence.

This is not coincidence it is manipulation and well planned propaganda to soften the American population so we won't have protests like we did in the sixties. Corporations HATE 'speed bumps' - anything that gets in their way of doing whatever they want. Guns, violence, drugs, unrest, silly discussions about abortion, gay marriage and immigrants - ANYTHING but mass protests to stop the economic ball rolling.

Why can't we all agree on these simple, basic (non-partisan) truths?

you must have spilled your liquor bottle in your bomb crater today, just scoop as much up as you can for tomorrow and try to sleep off your drunken stupor, maybe even not have any nightmares about the genocide you and your komrades committed and still refuse to admit.

do you understand what your posting is propaganda?

info contradicts itself saying its impossible to correlate the trends. i would simply re-assert that drugs have a demand that guns would never match up to. the fact that there are no submachine-gun mass murders is solid evidence the government controls the guns it wants to control.

The guns will always be out there, they've been manufacture in mass for the public since the civil war and there is nothing you or I or the government can do. They are in grandpas attic, a crazy persons pocket, a criminals waistband and a stand up citizens holster.

Crazy people and criminals are never going away either and they are apart of nature in the same way a shark or a bear is.. The will kill and that has nothing to do with guns. They will use swords, knives, poison, small round candy and cars, busses and explosives to tear at society. It's just up to us to be prepared as civil as possible for these creatures of nature.

i've made up my mind that banning guns completely misses the problem. and i've made up my mind that if we don't remember the past, we're doomed to repeat it.

and i've made up my mind that i'm open to quelling the violence in America, not making it worse by avoiding the real reasons for it.

you shouldn't make assumptions about what i have made up my mind about simply because i post a food for fucking thought article on why banning guns could very well mimic the clusterfuck of banning liquor combined with the evidence from elsewhere that it does not address the underlying factors of violence in society, as evidenced by Aus increase in other violent crimes.

Amazing, a dude post Cold war alliances map and thinks that he is proving current 3d world terminology and what countries rank as 3d world and what not.
A map that has Sweden as 3d world and Zimbabwe as 1st world does not give him a hint that this may be completely irrelevant map!

How is that even possible?

I don't recall anyone around here defending the Vietnam War policy. The Korean War was a UN war technically. Both Vietnam and Korea were part of the cold-war between the US Russia and China -- all 3 share the blame (or blame each other).

As far as Japan and WW2. The Japanese Asian attacked the Manchurian Chinese Asian and the Korean Asian and the Filipino Asian as well as any other Indochina Asian that they could attack to expand their Empire. The Japanese Asian killed more Asians than the US did in WW2.

The Japanese Empire also started hostilities with the USA by attacking the US Fleet at Perl Harbor while everyone was sleeping on Sunday morning.

Fortunately 9/11 has not resulted in WW3 (yet).

None of this has anything to do with the two news reporters that were shot and killed today.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, and in the USA many get wasted and party with alcohol, drugs and GUNS. There is a body count every weekend. But that is not the case here so that is really immaterial. This is another isolated nut-case that had a firearm to kill with.

If he wasn't a nut-case he would have been more rational and not pulled the trigger. If you took away all the firearms in the US killers would find other ways to kill. In 15 seconds a man with 2 combat knives could kill 2 civilians. If you think about it police make no effort to disarm people threatening them with a knife they just shoot them. So, would a pedestrian disarm a man wielding a knife? Most would just run. So the argument that if he hadn't had a gun in the first place no one would have died ( in this case ) is meaningless.

This was a double homicide not a mass killing and if it been 3 street people in Chicago no one would even give a fuck. It would not have made the national news

This just shows you have no idea and are most likely American as they are the only nationality that would twist the numbers like that.
Gun control works, anyone who wants a gun in Australia can get one, its just hard for the would be criminals or those with mental health issues, or those who need one "today" so they can use it... It certainly does not stop gun crime but it does stop the vast majority of it.

The carrying of a hand gun, having one for "protection", having one for the house, one for the car and one for the wife.. was NEVER legal here, that's just USA stupidity.

The situation you have in the USA is insane why anyone there defends guns at all is mind-blowing literary
And sadly from an outsider looking in, it seems that the USA is unfolding in to civil war again, slowly but surly the seeds are being sewn.

Anyway... just saw the video that the shooter filmed... terrible thing to do; terrible way to go; terrible loss for their families...The good part for the US is one crazy armed negro less on the streets... what a fucking disgusting narcicistic psychopath...

That's because society is right to question the legitimacy of police militarization. How many cops have died from armor piercing bullets?

First of all, this guy wasn't crazy he Just wanted to make a name for himself by doing something he KNEW would make people know and remember his name .

He had this ALL planned out for a long time. Had his real car parked at airport for month and was using rental car etc...

A Crazy guy doesn't put a camera exactly where he knows it is catching all the action. he just goes ballistic and starts shooting. This guy just wanted to do extreme SHOCK by filming it and posting it on FB and Twitter he didn't care who saw it your sons, daughters, etc... . he's a piece of shit and GOOD RIDDANCE hes gone. Punk took pussies way out.

Yes I don't doubt that a country where people are riding donkey carts around is generally safer than the US unless you happen to run into an ethnic cleansing. Like I said, you can't compare them. Two very different countries with different demographics.

And lets not forget the thread where you and several others have said that the area would be better off if the ethnic cleansing was allowed to continue. basically advocating not just murder but genocide. yep, you are a peaceful people.
