Do you work from a desk, or a laptop?

I just use a laptop, but when at home I have it connected to regular monitor, keyboard. How about you?

I've found laptops to be unreliable and of course always a sacrifice compared to a desktop in the power department. Only good if you're travelling a lot. In my case if I'm travelling I won't be doing any serious work at the same time anyway. At least nothing I can't do with a phone or tablet.

Being a tall guy I usually have problems with chairs (their maximum height is often too low) and screen angles (they don't tilt upwards enough with the default stand). I use a notebook occasionally, but I can't imagine spending hours every day angling my head down to see it. There's also the pissy little keyboards to contend with.

If you're into minimalism, and not a tall freak, then I guess a laptop is ideal, otherwise, I don't see why you'd sacrifice the ergonomic benefits of a proper desktop setup, with a full sized keyboard, and a screen that is raised more than an inch above the desk...

I was laptop-only for about 7 years, then bought a smaller laptop so needed an external screen and keyboard, then got sucked in and now have a monster desktop with a massive screen lol.

Depends on what kind of "work" you are doing.
Video editing (especially HD/4K) takes an enormous amount of power so it's desktop all the way.
If you are coding or writing emails then a laptop woul do just fine.

So I use both; at home desktop and when traveling a laptop.
Tablets can suck my donkey dick.

I have desktop machines in my office. Fast, bright, comfortable, in an environment perfect for working.

But when I get tired of being inside, I grab my laptop and work from the back yard. I still have all my tools like FTP, editors etc, but the environment is more relaxing obviously, and serves to continue to let me work, but in a different way that I can't really describe.

I think ideally, everyone needs both a desktop and a laptop.

OR,

Buy yourself a laptop, and an external giant-assed monitor for it that you use in your office. This way you get the best of both worlds and save a small fortune at the same time.

Laptop only, hdmi to a 24" screen.

I took my old desktop and attached it to my living room screen so I can watch shows & movies on the internet on the large screen tv.

I just rendered a 4 hour 1080p video on a laptop, it took a few hours but it was fine. Didn't overheat and video looks great.

You can get a great laptop with 6gb memory, 1TBHD these days for $350 and hdmi to a larger screen.

I rocked a laptop as my main workstation for a few years in the late 2000's, but just can't go back. It was fine for answering emails and batching some photos, but it was murder on my back, as I tended to work from the couch or other non-optimal spaces.
I live by my numpad and dual monitors now, and honestly, a laptop would be so much slower at rendering videos out. So I'm on a full desktop PC and quite happy.

I have a huge Alienware PC for most of my daily work. It's old, but still fast. I had to replace the liquid cooling system last week, but otherwise it's been great.

I have a Microsoft Surface which I use mostly for traveling. It's docked in the master bedroom on a small desk there hooked up to a monitor.

Downstairs at night I use a new Alienware 13 laptop. Pretty fast for what it is.

Work from a desktop. Last black friday stayed up late to snatch like a $600-700 Dell laptop for $299 I think because I've never owned a laptop. In the 10 months think I've turned it on 4 times mainly for windows/virus updates so don't really need a laptop but price was cheap enough to have it as backup or if I need to travel somewhere.

How can someone work seriously from the laptop? It is simply too small. Keyboard position is irritating. Maybe it depends on the type of job.

Desktop with three 24ínch monitors and 50 inch TV connected as 4th. But I am rarely using TV, maybe sometimes to watch google analytics in real time.

I use a i7 laptop with a hdmi 23" display, wired keyboard, and wireless mouse. It's the best of both worlds. Only complaint is the battery use to last 6+ hours but since at home it's always plugged in.. now it only lasts 3 hours.

Battery issues is one of the things why I would never try to make laptop/desktop hybrid.
