Windows 10 is pure garbage

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

If you're still putting up with malware / driver-installation / manual configuration / stupid quirks and the rest of endless, endless bullshit that is Microsoft Windows, then hurry the hell up and do it. You have no idea how much happier you will be, and how much more productive you can be. Even though Windows 10 is the best ever, it's still crap compared to OSX and Linux.

I feel like linux under utilizes the hardware, is that true? Let me know what you would do with a newer i7, 32gb ram and 11 gb nvidia card with linux that windows can't? I do games and all web development on my system.

I've never had any Malware since going to Windows 10, defender is the only antivirus/malware you need.

Never had to install a driver, does that all by itself

Only once have I had to manually configure the privacy settings

As far as productivity goes no other operating system comes near Windows 10

If you are not a gamer or addicted to windows programs I think LINUX actually makes better use of most hardware. GPU (video cards) can be a problem for reason of their lack of GUI support and proprietary drivers that will install as part of the LINUX kernel. I had some problem with Debian but with Mint or Ubuntu none really.

LINUX runs considerably faster than windows also

It's really just general annoyances. It takes forever to boot now, even with an SSD drive. Endless updates means endless rebooting which sucks if you need to leave it on for a long time.

Drivers install by themselves? No not always. So right now I'm trying to install a new driver. Dialog box says it can take a few minutes. Fine. In the end I get a "driver could not be installed" error message. Not only is there no reason provided, but I can't exit out of the box to start over. Closing stuck programs from the task manager works most of the time, but not every time.

There are so many annoyances like this.

Productivity? No way, no way, no way. Buy a new mac and it already has the latest OS. Installing everything is FAST and simple. You are up and running and working in minutes with a new mac vs a PC.

Please believe me. Macs, simply, work. Well. Very, very well. They are so effortless - so smooth - so exactly what a computer should be.

Of course they are not lightning-fast when it comes to games. For hardcore gamers, Windows wins for sure. But so what. For general use, Macs win.

As soon as my last project is done, I'm selling this PC (Alienware Area 51, 1TB SSD + 4TB HD, 24GB of Ram, NVidia 750 (I think), and good riddance.

LINUX is like a race car -- if something doesn't work well you have to get under the hood and fix it. Granted, real LINUX is a learning curve. Simple tasks that the average user needs just work.

If you want to run node.js, Python, Erlang/Pheonix (my latest interest), others locally you can. If you want to rsync or scp local to your remote servers you can natively (assuming they are LINUX servers).

I have no issues at all with Windows 10. Bootup with the SSD is incredibly quick. I'll pass on the overpriced Mac ecosystem thanks.

If there's anything I hate it's Windows 10 that's for sure
Anything is better than an apple product of course
I would use Linux based oses if I was more proficient with the use thereof
But who cares Windows 7 forever

The only one reason I don't still use XP is due to the 64-Bit version doesn't play nice with most hardware and who wants to only have 3.2gb of memory with the 32-Bit version

First and foremost, Windows 10 is the most brilliant, cutting-edge piece of malware/spyware ever invented. And its an operating system as an afterthought.

I dual-boot Windows 10 and Linux. I hardly ever boot into Windows 10 and have little use for it. Except on occasion when I feel like playing GTA.

Linux makes full use of my hardware, including all my CPU cores and hyperthreads. I have it set up to where it checks for and installs the latest Nvidia drivers automatically (currently running 387.12).

MonoDevelop/Xamarin for Linux is a very good, powerful GUI development platform, very similar to Visual Studio. It handles many languages but I prefer C#. It can be tricky to get it set up just right. But once its set up, the sky is the limit as far as what can be done with it.

Microsoft served its purpose back in its heyday. But I'm not constrained by it anymore, and its mostly irrelevant now.

Hmm... no. When I install Linux from scratch, all my hardware works out of the box (including wifi adapters etc), but if I install Windows, nothing works till I install a driver from CD or download it from the Net.

I use win 10 only for gaming, linux for anything else. But i seriusly dont get how did they managed to make those updates so bad - they are too often, and in most cases it's only system upgrades which after applying it, it make system slower. Tho, this was always windows problem - with every patch, every service pack, it become slower and slower. I remember back in old days how Windows XP without any service pack was much faster then windows XP with service pack 4. Technically, you could mitigate these problems by making a customized windows, where you would install and update only those part of system which you really need, but that's not something what ordinary user can do. For example, to turn off updates, which i had to do after it killed my game session, you need to change system settings, there is no simple "turn off updates" as it was in windows 7.

Yep that is huge advantage of linux over windows , dont think i ever had to install any driver on linux, everything works out of box. How can a open source project make it and multi billion company cant, it's beyond me.

$ unix2dos file (or * all of that directory) for windoze users :P

Maybe LINUX Nvida support is better now?

I use AMD/Radeon NP

Yes LINUX distros (Ubuntu and Mint [i have used]) come with drivers as part of the kernel -- there are proprietary PPAs ( Personal Package Archive ) you can add for specific software and special drivers that are available.

To my thinking anyone developing on Windows for non-windows application coding works with one hand tied behind their back. ISS or Visual Studio I can understand

I've had about 100 blue screen crashes using Windows 10, all for various reasons.

While using Windows 7 for seven years, I had ZERO blue screen crashes.

I'm testing my ram now to see if it has any errors, but if it comes out error free and I get another BSOD, I'm going back to Windows 7.

and the constant updating drives me crazy. I do love it overall-- the interface,e etc -- but there's too many annoying things. And the crashing is just unacceptable. I've lost hours of work because of this pile of motherfucking garbage software.

Mark I have used the OS system. I found it to be counter intuitive and a bit creepy. when I noticed the 'app windows' did not open full screen and lock open, I was told Steve Jobs knew I didn't need the 'app windows' to go full screen and lock open... AND in mac world I can not run 2 instance of an app. in crap windows 10, I can run video editing software several instances... and naturally you'll say WFT! why would you ever do that?

sometimes when I'm rendering I might need to check on another vid or edit some other little clip etc... in shit windows 10 I can do that.

I have no malware or driver issues of any kind. and I counter your finely thought out argument with this: the apple genius bar. apparently unbeknownst to you... the fucking apple crap breaks down

Linux users have long had a love-hate relationship with Nvidia. On the one hand, Nvidia?s proprietary graphics drivers have always been the best-performing ones for Linux gaming. On the other hand, Nvidia has been so hostile to the open-source community that Linus Torvalds literally gave it the middle finger a few years ago. Torvalds also called them ?the single worst company? the Linux developer community has ever had to deal with.

Nvidia seemed to be improving after Valve announced its Steam Machine endeavor. Linus even gave Nvidia a thumbs up! But the latest Nvidia graphics hardware, the GeForce GTX 900 series, ?is VERY open-source unfriendly,? according to a Nouveau developer.

First, I don't get the joke. What's so funny?

Next, Windows boots nice and fast when I re install it from scratch. But after running out of fingers counting the endless updates, and running out of patience waiting for those updates to apply, I have zero fucks left to give when when I have to watch my boot-up time switch from 6 seconds to 60 seconds.

I never tried that, but I can run 2 or more instances of browsers, 2 or more instances of email and FTP... but.. why run 2 instances of video editing software? It would use twice as much ram and cpu power and deliver half the performance, no?

Oh I see. I can do that on my Mac, but maybe it depends on the application. For example if I run Apple movie or Adobe Premiere, it can render in the background while I continue editing or viewing other videos. Is that what you mean to do?

The Apple Genius bar is good, though it sometimes takes a while to talk to them. You have to book an appointment in advance for anything complicated, but for simple questions they are really on the ball.

Runs perfectly on my old HP Elite laptop from 2011. Cloned the slow hd to a nice fast ssd and the thing has never been quicker. Never a crash no problems at all if you have good specs on your computer. I edit video, use PS, edit websites and never stutters.

Next, Windows boots nice and fast when I re install it from scratch. But after running out of fingers counting the endless updates, and running out of patience waiting for those updates to apply, I have zero fucks left to give when when I have to watch my boot-up time switch from 6 seconds to 60 seconds.
Funny but i had opposite experience - when i was updating from windows 7 to 10, it was loading slow for like 50 times during downloading/installing crap, but after that boot time is only 10 seconds on normal HDD drive.

Hell I have a six or seven year old windoze 7 install on a 999 year old Precision 7500 and it boots Windows in a few seconds no problem even though the card only runs my drive at 374 megs per second
Takes a while to boot to the point where Windows begins loading due to it shows me the video card bios and the sata card bios though

If you have an SSD getting real slow secure erase it
For some reason that makes them act like they have some sense some times

Another thing is be sure that you don't end up with a misaligned SSD
That slowed a machine down once for this joker I knew according to him

it takes a few seconds to boot up my laptop with win10. You're doing something wrong.
You tooke the words from my mouth. It seems there is another issue. That configuration is a premium.

Mark I prefer not to be in the mac ecosystem. I prefer the windows ecosystem as the lessor of 2 evils but going creepy fast. android is okay and useful however I'm not a 'McDonalds kind of guy'.

the mac ecosystem is so closed I find it 'cult-like' with you being a perfect example, bro that's just fucking creepy...

I don't see other people talking about their appliances with such fever... once again, that's just fucking creepy...

I've been using Photoshop since vr. 3.0, Vegas video since 2003? so I guess I know how to operate editing apps... peace love and dope... B

No way. I am a w10 user and i have none of those issues.

exactly then Mr Prince expects us to whole heartedly embrace his political views when we know for a "FACT" that the ideas he endorses are about as false as they can get, based on bigotry. 'mac is superior above all'. bigotry in it's finest, a closed mind unable to open to new positons.

see the credibility issues Mark? a serious question: are you so enamored with your positions that you have little regard for our 'believability' in that you are so superior to us that when we do disagree well, were just fucking wrong and that's all there is to it?

you might view this statement as a joke or me kidding around, yanking your chain what ever, Mark but this is EXACTLY how 99% of us non liberal's feel about you guys. I mean the fucking arrogance from you guys is over the top. seriously. you guys did vote a man woman of the year with a straight face... you guys have no credibility from what I see... about computers or anything really

read this carefully: this is why mrs. clinton lost the election, Libby's have no personal regard for non libbs as human beings. it wasn't the Russians, okay?

I'm definitely an iPhone guy 4S,5S,6,7+ and now X but haven't switched over on computers. Using an HP desktop and Dell laptop both with windows 10 and haven't had any issues.
