I wish I had time to take on a couple of big studios and bring them to the net the right way. So much money to be made.

That's what one of the biggest problems is, that there aren't enough qualified webmasters who have the resources to meet the demand of all the studios.

You cant just shoot a few scenes, slap a box together and think if you dont sell 2500 pieces out the door..oh welll dvds are dead.
i agree (for once) with joe on this... if you think dvd is dead, think again. it is going to be years before a good HD download can be made to your livingroom set for the general public, yes a few select who like to tangle with apple itv possible, but generally speaking the US is several years out for this transition to happen.
yes, lots of porn companies will close in 2008 but not because dvd sales are dead..because they dont know how to run their business.

no, why would I ask XXXJay or JC how TTBoy has done - if I wanted to know how XXXJay or JC have done they'd be the people to ask - if I wanted to know how TTBoy has done the question would have to be put to TTBoy.

As the VP of sales for Shane's World and Hush Hush .. i can assure you DVD is not dead. The only thing that is different now VS then ... multiple revenue streams .. that's the key ... for any company. It's not just about selling DVD's. It's about selling your content. Which is why i think my background in internet has paid off. Their is not a platform available i don't understand. I don't think that is true for a lot of the old schoolers. Hell i still have some buyers who don't have email addresses!! The insist on faxes.

But i can say i have noticed buyers are buried in product. They no longer even bother to carry the crap product. No more are the days of someone buying a $500 dollar camera and shooting some crap and putting it to dvd and suddenly pulling in 35k in 5 days. Their is enough good product out there. But in all honesty .. there are probablly only 20-25 studios that actually make good quality porn.

They are also sick of the same old, same old.

We are very lucky we have two large brands that have been around for a long time. I expect people without brands and "fan following" to really start dropping like flys in the next 2-5 years.

I personally believe that Blu Ray is a temporary fad that will also go the way of Beta, VHS, Cassettes, LP's, etc.

Blu Ray will be the hardgood format of choice for the next few year (5 years) but companies that do not embrace digital delivery methods will fade away.

I guess we might have something quite new..

The thing is, even we released best selling titles (the most succesfull with about 10 000 sales) to where they were released yet - the transaction costs as well as the time till you collect the money back (and the overall revenues) are simply killing our DVD initiatives.

Although we could theoretically produce one DVD master a week with exclusive content if we wanted to, unless there will be a buyer willing not only DVD but also say TV rights and telling us what would be their exact requirements for the product, it's not even worthy to produce them.

So now it's basically an egg or hen situation, you have a huge exclusive content library submitting tapes and promos and the three titles you have trying to show what you are capable of.

Definitely more money in TV rights, but that's not an easy company to get into.. Have two TV deals in place so far, hopefully more to come.

DVD companies can still make money, a lot of the traditional DVD companies own huge libraries of killer content. But I have to agree that a lot of them do not know how to market this on the web.

For example (and I apologize in advance to anyone who takes this personally) Evil Angel, they have tried it several ways, this company has superb content and could make a killing and blow many others out of the water. But for some reason it is not doing it. I do not know why, maybe webmasters aren't promoting them, maybe their aff program isn't ran the way it should. I have no idea, but fact of the matter is. Unless a DVD company is willing to team up with some of the bigger players on the web it's going to be tough for them.

TT Boy for example, OC Cash and him are a great combo. I am pretty sure that Brandon Iron is doing awesome with Braincash as well.

DVD as a stand alone product is tough, you "might" break even, you need to do a lot more to make money, phone, VOD, paysites etc etc.. whore your content out so to speak.

just my 2 cents

Sebastian
sorry Sebastian but your statement regarding Evil Angel 2008 is very wrong. Maybe if you said this last year you might of been correct but keep your eye on http://www.evilangelcash.com this year ;)

Peace...

You are right in part, but Shanes world is a different creature all together and its successes is defenatly credited to you and the way you brand the product. The other advantage is that Shanes World never sold and resold licensing rights to the internet companies.

"hey let us give you a little extra money to use your content online. Your content already made you money. Its almost free money"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! all these stupid DVD companies fell for it and now they cant make there own sites because the sold out a long time ago a bunch of different time!!!!

Megan and Shanes World never sold out and always held their price, good for you.

These DVD companies made there deals for what they thought was free money and now its time to pay the Piper. I saw this coming a long time ago.lol ..

Same for me, I started in porn in 1991 and directing porn movies in 1993 (Hi-8mm/Beta SP & VHS days) and started filming custom content for internet sites in standard definition nine years ago around the time of the early internet days and continue to this day with high definition filming for North American and European clients. I'm currently straddling both ends of the business, DVD and internet and doing some of my own webmastering too. Gotta look to the future and evolve with the times!

joe thats great for you but you are producing solid stuff and havet been doing dvds since the early 2000's belive me these gsuys are dying! Even the top companies, i wont name any names..

There are no dvd companies and producers who are selling more pieces out the door
than they did 3-5 years ago, period...

Our stores dvd sales are down 70% from 2004.. and thats 5 large stores in the NYC metro area! Itsgetting real bad out there! Even many dvd distributors are closing up shop!

I think DVD format is going to be the dominant delivery medium for a long time to come.

The delivery will soon become the web and bandwidths increase.

A good DVD played on HD TV / Projector with upgrading will look better then fake HD on the internet.

HiDef camera/editing/ blu ray will be production and master and make the DVD produced look even better.

But of course content is the most important....

Thank you Dave! That means a lot to me!

I do 100% agree we are a totally different thing. Comparing us to other DVD companies is like comparing Tomatoes and Grapes .. both fruit .. but VERY different LOL

And you are correct ... and trust me those offers for licensing are a 24-7 thing! If i hear myself say 1 more time ... "i'm sorry we don't license our content!" i may scream. But i understand how a lot of the DVD companies fell into that trap. It looks great on the surface! and why you arn't making the money via your own affiliate program ... it's easy for the company to think ... why not? it's "free" money!

Same reason we do not put our titles to VOD until about a year after street date.

Which is why i never stop reminidng myself .. Nothing in life is free ... especially free money!

xoxo,
Megan
