I am thinking it really is starting to slow down with people getting killed at 4 bucks a gallon, and all the free porn thats available these days.

Ratio's get worse every year it seems.
Anyone got reference to these sort of trends? I know from my own stats shit's been going down for almost a 2 years now. Its like a slow death thing.

Maybe I suck I dunno but it seems alot harder these days to convince people to break out the plastic. Traffic wants more free stuff, more quality stuff and yet not as willing to pay as they used to.

Whats the deal? What are the prime factors leading to this shit?

If you remember the small recession in 2001 didnt really touch us,I believe the main reason is there werent tubes at that time. Same here, the only solution seems to be pushing out new paysites. Even huge old school programs like Bangbros and ND suddenly started new sites almost monthly after not having a single new one for ages, TCG, Juggcash, Naughty America, new sites everywhere. It's been a trend for about a year now.

Shortly after release, they convert great, then you can slowly see the ratios go downward as the members content saturates on tubes, forums, rapidshare & co.

1:3000 (frontpage unique) seems to be about normal nowadays for many of the "mainstream niches" like mature, anal, teens, babes, etc with average traffic...and it's not like blogs with 100% SE traffic do alot better.

Go niche? There isn't enough traffic in many micro niches. 1:200 is nice, but if you can only send 400 hits a day with a #1 ranking in google it still doesn't help much, since the majority of traffic turns more and more into shit.

I don't like to assign blame as to why business is doing badly but I have to say the single most important factor is the advent of tube sites. Who is going to pay $30-$40/month plus cross-sells when you can get full and downloadable videos for free. I don't think the recession or high gas prices make a dent in comparison to the effect tube sites have done.

I have some detailed spreadsheets dating back to 98 when I decided to really keep track of traffic patterns and such. No I will not share, do not ask. These past few months has been a nightmare for many types of sites (micros excluded). You honestly do need 2 to 3 times the traffic to make the same amount of money you did at the same time last year.

It also does not seem like it is purely tubes or the economy but both of those do factor in. Customer polling has shown a great deal of disappointment with many sites they joining (particularly solo girl sites and mega access sites). The say then end up feeling ripped off due to lack of content for what they joined and feel abandoned the second they turn their money over and many admit that makes them reluctant to join other sites.

So true, if I was even vaguely interested in main stream porn, I wouldnt be paying at all - maybe a membership or two a year for a month if someone came out with something very good.

Porn is said to be recession resistant to a large degree. It has also been said your income is directly proportional to the value you add.

Deductively, the people who's sales are going down are providing less value than they used to. This can be interpreted multiple ways.

1) Other people are providing more value. There is a large degree of truth to the bitching and moaning about tubes sites. However, there isn't anything you can do to make them go away so learn why people like them (really give it some thought and don't just say because it's free). Also, mega sites like videobox are providing so much value even the largest programs can't compete with them. Then there are also the clip4sales with amateur producer content. Just a few things to consider.

2) There's more competition. Porn is becoming increasingly saturated. Nobody is doing anything new. I'm not referring content, I'm more referring to business models here. Read the book Purple Cow.

3) Your offerings grow increasingly out of touch with the demands of consumers. This could be a combination of customer demand changing or simply producers shooting stuff that customers don't care for. I think it's more the latter. How many shooters actually watch porn on a personal level? Shooters are motivated to get more work they are "playing it safe" and have come up with their own rules of what is correct. As a consequence there isn't much variety to all the content out there. Everything is the same.

Everyone says the tubes are killing them. But I've also read in this thread many people saying their traffic is up. If surfers are getting their porn from tubes, why are they still surfing and visiting your sites/galleries/blogs?

Maybe the surfers are looking for something, it's just not there so they settle on the tubes.

I've got the same traffic I've had for a few years now. And according to some it's the worst kind there is (although I know it's not coz I've got worse stuff than that!).

Same traffic, maybe 25% less sales, rebills up slightly.

Can't say my experience has been as bad as others. In fact my sales have increased this month for the first time in a while. I'm wondering if I'm benefiting from all my competition giving up and moving on.

Tube sites + recession + fuel prices = bad for the industry generally. But it doesn't seem to be universal. No doubt in my mind that the big companies are getting hit the most.
