I just signed up for a mainstream show that's $400 and I know I'll get 10X my money's worth. It's the bottom line ROI that's important. If you're just going for the free food/booze/play with friends, then you're not going to want to pay. But if going increases your bottom line, then it's worth the $$$

Faye, and now LAJ and Connor, has always worked hard to keep the fees down and the hotel rates low - hell, I can remember people berating her for having the shows in such cheap hotels!

But again, if you're going to make more than you spend, no amount is too much and if you're not going to make crap then any amount is too much. Basic common sense tells you which shows to go to.

It was originally going to be internext but when i saw that xbiz vegas was free registration i thought (hey 300 saved = one extra night GFE with my favorite "escort") so i talked it over with my man friend and we decided to go. Had a crazy sexy time in vegas so all in all it was a good choice to go.

That being said I am also going to internext and i do not mind paying the registration fee because i had already decided to go earlier in the year. The xbiz show was a nice little bonus for me. Even tho i did no work on my sites and lost some GFE nights at the tables, it was all in all a great trip.

if you see me, just remember: I have teh traffic, will trade for hot dirty sex.

Chris,

You go out of your way to come and shake my hand at every show, then turn right around and talk smack about XBIZ to my staff and others in the biz. That's really weird man.

Alec
I didn't go but thought it was amazing.

Besides proving a common meeting ground our industry shows aren't worth much. Mainstream shows are worth every dime because you can learn things. I've never taken anything from the actual shows.

I think there would be riff raff with or without free passes.

Internext Vegas has the most non industry attendees as far as I recall. It's annoying no matter what show but it is what it is.

I missed Xbiz Vegas this year because I didn't think anyone would be at the show that I hadn't seen in the last 60 days.

We didn't sponsor anything although it's in our budget cause I'm still bitter Eroticy won the Xbiz Award. There is no way people voted for Eroticy over DatingGold, AFF, Fling or SexSearch. In hindsight giving Eroticy the award probably did no good for Xbiz since they fell off the planet. Maybe we'll win it this year, but Im not holding my breath.

I've have had successful returns on shows but once you meet enough people, you can work deals online and you're down to doing nothing but partying and watching dick waving and boob flashing. The seminars seem to be the same ones I attended years ago - not much to learn offline at this point. I haven't seen a reason to attend an adult show in years and I doubt I will again at this point. It's a lot easier to look at the pictures - thanks JFK!!

Pretentious a little maybe?

Yeah I think so.

Both AVN and XBIZ is pure shit and just charge you people as much as they can for the stupid print of nonsensical crap they sputter about.

No offense, but you wear t-shirts to shows. There is a big difference in the jobs of what most people go to shows for and what you go to shows for.

There are additional reasons... but I've been in the industry since 1997 and I always attend a bunch of shows every year. It's often worth the expense.
While this may be true, none of the shows promote it toward the average affiliate. Almost every promotion thread goes into "Can't wait to get wasted with you bro" mode within seconds. There is little to no mention of the seminars or speakers. Lets look at a couple examples:

Internext is in a couple weeks. Here is their seminar list. Now for the most part, the list is real vague. I mean "How to be a succesful affiliate"? How about getting more in-depth. Seminars on SEO, PPC, social networking. What about other issues that effect affiliates such as hosting, development, and emerging technologies. Even the ones that are interesting don't list any information. Is the domain name seminar being run by someone with a lot of experience in the field or just some guy off the street? The entire seminar portion of the site is secondary to everything else.

And this isn't a knock on Internext, all shows do it. Atlanta Forum doesn't even have their presenters or seminars listed.

And perhaps that's the whole point. The seminars and learning is secondary to the parties. But the average affiliate who may not want to dish out a couple thousand dollars to attend a show that he really doesn't know what he'll get out of it. I'm sure the show is fun. I'm also sure fun is a weekend at Wrigley Field. While having fun at a conference is a plus, it's not why I'd attend one. It's also probably not why a lot of average affiliates would attend one.

But the shows do well enough now that they don't seem to need new blood. I have heard a lot of programs ask why I won't be going to a show, and I've seen a lot bitch about not having many new people at them. The whole thing comes across to me like a big party that is masked as a business event. Maybe that's not what it is, but that's how it's sold to the industry. If I'm going to spend time and money to party, I'll do it with friends and somewhere of my choosing. If I'm going to gain something businesswise, then I'll attend a show. I've found networking can be done just as easily online and over the phone.

This isn't a knock on any of the conventions at all either. Just an explanation on why affiliates may not be flocking to these events.

Now why would you Drag The Atlanta Forum into this ? Getting professional trainers lined up is not as easy as asking one of your bros to please get up there and sub for the guy who's too hung over to appear.

SweetT told me himself months ago, that he wanted this show to be remembered for the seminars more than the parties. "The Business of the Business."

From what I hear tru back channels, The Atlanta Forum will be announcing the best line up of seminars we have seen so far in the history of the adult internet. This should be done prior to the end of next week! So do yourself a favour, check back and I hope to see you there

The only internet shows I register for each year is Miami & Phoenix because you have to in order to be in the hotel.

I wasn't dragging them into it. It wasn't even a negative remark. It was more a statement on how some of these shows could attract more regular affiliates.

Fact is that for the most part, the shows are advertised as big parties. There is little discussion of seminars or what someone could learn there. Atlanta Forum has their whole schedule page filled with all the parties going on. The seminar page isn't touched. I think it would be awesome if they had great seminars with great speakers, but is it what they're selling? I mean by the time that gets settled and up, will it be tough to get a room?

And I apologize if it came out the wrong way. It was really more about how shows could attract more affiliates. I think the affiliate making $100k a year is going to look at the shows that are out there, see all the parties, and perhaps decide it's not worth forking over a few grand.

Many people have mentioned it before a show is what you make it.
You missed my point. You got business done because everyone was in one location at the same time. You didn't learn or get anything from the show itself.

Thanks for your reply ! I think if you are out to learn something to advance your self in the business, you will be pleasantly surprised by the line up of seminars at The Atlanta Forum. Schedule should be fully updated by the end of next week

Anyone who goes to one of these shows and can't make back the cost of the badge using a contact he met their shouldn't be going to shows. Plain and simple!
