russia georgia: this preplanned, coldblooded metated murder of a small country. russian "peacekeepers" have been antagonizing georgia constantly for years. this about the russian not wanting a u.s. base in georgia. georgia is a "small" country they are not a threat to russia. why would russia have so many troops and equipment ready to come in so fast. russia not trying to protect, they are trying to takeover and control.

cuba:there are many countrys very successful without the us as a trading partner. cuba can trade with almost anyone in the world. the reason cuba is in the shap its in is that there system does not work without a big brother supporting them. the only reason cuba survived for so long is because the soviets supported them, when they pulled out you have the "cuba of today" the other is that cuba does not pay its bills even with the hundreds of billions of dollars, yes "dollars" in banks in france and other countrys.

for thoses that are enjoying cuba in its current state many people where executed and are currently being executed for your enjoyment of the island. I personally have had many family members executed just for being against the current government. "the war in cuba"

i believe the United States is a noble country, we are not perfect and the world is not as it seems the world is always in a constant state of war, either in its non-violence form we call discussions, argument debates, etc. and the ones with violence. there is war without violence and there is war with...

Sure Cuba has problems, that was not what I meant. I was referring to global problems or issues that involve other countries. However, Cuba is dirty poor and struggling because of the USA. That is a fact. We have them in a headlock and have been chocking them out for years.

Cubans are happy to leave Cuba. The only Cubans I've met IN Cuba who still want to leave, are younger Cubans who are more into getting their hands on the latest fashion brands and making money. Lift the trade embargo and let money start to pour into that country and opportunity and see who still wants to leave.

And yea, you have people who speak out against Castro jailed. So what? They know it's not allowed, and they do it anyway. Pretty fucking stupid if you ask me. Is it a human rights violation? Maybe. The US has done worse over less. No country is perfect. But they people know the rules and choose to break them. The people in Cuba have other small freedoms that Americans don't have, but on the flip side, they don't have the freedom to criticize their government. Break the rules, pay the price.

I know Cuba is not perfect, but it is special. When Fidel and Raul are gone and if the next leader is able to mend the relationship with the USA, "Cuba" is over. The Cubas have no idea how easy they have it right now. Free health care, one of the highest literacy rates in the word, it's safe and it is cut off from the outside world that is just DYING to race in to destroy the charm that is Cuba. Startbucks and McDondalds have already secured private deals for locations along the Malecon in Havana. Think about that. How sad.

What is going to happen is this. American investors (and American Cubans) are going to run in there and take everything. The old cars, the antique furniture, old musical instruments, old bikes, old radios... you name it. The Cubans are going to sell it all to them (or get fucked out of it) and be left holding that glorious green wad of cash and will have lost everything that makes that island so unique. That will be sad. T

hen what you will have is Havana revived and the new tourist spot for Americans, but the Cuban people and smaller cities are going to suffer more than before. No more free health care and now they get a shitty education system. Free food or rations, nope. Because they won't be able to have it with the new way of doing things. Most of Cuba will then turn into another Dominican Republic, otherwise a poverty filled shit hole, that was better off before. It's going to be very sad. Mark my words, this will happen.

The only saving grace to this story is if the USA somehow makes Cuba a state somewhere down the road. That would pull them out of the slump and turn them into another Puerto Rico, and the military will continue to keep the base there, unrestricted, meaning that GIs would pretty much take over the southern part of the island and Santiago De Cuba. This would be about the only option that would save Cuba from totally falling into more despair.

Great post.

Analogy isn't really proper..

Russia was not the one that attacked first. As far as I know, Georgia's army attacked South Ossetia and killed many Russian people, so Russia had to react in order to stop ethnic cleaning in that territory.
Georgia like to enter NATO as soon as possible, and one of the terms they need to accomplish is fixing their internal issues.
With US donations help, they raised the army budget to more than a billion USD and as result, usage of power came up in S.Ossetia.

Totally different than US/Iraq thingie

Man, a lot of you are completely ignorant and stupid to say the least. Do you remember the Gulf War? How about do a bit of studying before you say that the US simply attacked Iraq for no reason. You do realize that your country fired on Russians first...right? From what I've read and heard the US has nothing to do with your little squabble over there.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. This is where you clearly show you don't have any idea what is really going on.

Nobody should be arrested for speech. However, rules are rules. Every country has rules and if you break them, you get punished. If that is illegal in Cuba, then they had better keep quiet about it. I live in Thailand and it's illegal to speak bad about the royal family. Guess what? Nobody speaks bad about the royal family. There is no such thing as "freedom" as our country wants us to believe. What we have is a world filled with needed rules, even if you or I don't agree with them, and we have to follow those rules if we want to be left alone in peace.

Leave change to those who can actually change things. Spoken word doesn't cut it these days. If the people want Cuba back, take it the way Fidel did. Oh, I forgot, that was already tried and funded by the CIA but was a total failure.

Talking out of my ass? Have you ever even been there?

Of course visiting and living there are not the same. That applies to any country. Though I have not just spent a week there laid up in the Varadero resorts. I've spent an easy year of my life there. Maybe more. How about you? I've talked to a lot of people there, in various cities, and the majority of them did not want to leave Cuba. Sure, they wanted change but they loved their country and didn't want to leave. I can count on 2 hands the Cubans who told me they wanted to leave, and each one of them was for financial reasons, not because they didn't love Cuba.

One thing American Cubans seem to forget, is that the Cubans still on the island are mostly proud Cubans who love their country. While many do welcome change and pray for it, believe it or not there is still a generation of people who believe in The Revolution. American Cubans can not fathom that idea, and that is their right, they are Americans now and have the freedom to voice it.

Look, I'm not saying Cuba is perfect. It's far from it. But Fidel did not run it into the ground, the USA did after the Soviet Union fell. That is even written in the history books should you want to take the time to read about it. Of course exiled Cubans and the American government want to say otherwise, but of course they do, I would not expect them to put the blame on anyone else. Nobody on American soil ever takes accountability for anything. Why start now?

Is the Cuban government corrupt? Of course it is. Every government is.

And you're right, I have no idea what it means to struggle in Cuba. There is no way I could ever know. And I know this. I'm basing my thoughts on my extensive time spent there talking to the people and the information I have been able to find over the years. However, I do have the advantage of knowing what is coming their way as soon as the embargo and travel ban is lifted. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that, and it's not good.

A Cuba debate can go on forever. You will never agree to my views, and neither me to yours. That's ok, I can agree to disagree. Just remember this thread when the embargo is lifted and the USD bum rushes Cuba and strips it of everything it has. If you have never been there, you can't understand what that charm is, but if you have, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. And it's a damn shame. Cuba is like the last little unspoiled place in earth.

And there is the problem. We Americans think it is our duty to police the world. However, that is what the pretty much useless UN is for. If anything needs to be done, it's a foot put in the ass of the UN to get involved and get shit done.

We can't even police ourselves. We do not really understand other cultures and expect them to do things our way, even though they have been doing it their way for 1000s of years. This is why we get our ass handed to us over and over.

Policing the world is like policing the internet. I wish them the best of luck.

We can't even police ourselves. We do not really understand other cultures and expect them to do things our way, even though they have been doing it their way for 1000s of years. This is why we get our ass handed to us over and over.

Policing the world is like policing the internet. I wish them the best of luck.
HEhe The world expects Americans to Police the world to.
THe funny thing is when the USA does nothing it's still Americas fault...

I really wonder where World Education is at right now.

For all you neophytes know Bush and Putin could have decided both the fate of Georgia and Iran over a fucking hotdog.

Bush: "Tell ya what.. We'll trade ya Georgia for Iran?"

Putin: says "It's deal!"
Bush: "Cool, want a bite of my hot dog?"

Putin: "Sure Comrad! By the way how fast ya think you take Iran out ehh? You tink maybe fastere than Great Russia take out Georgia?"

Bush: "Oh ya wanna up the stakes my good man? You go first and I'll even give you a 2 month lead, I will send the ya the head of Abinidijadi or what ever them mula's call him before you can send me the head of the Georgian President!"

Putin: "Yer On American!"

Yup.

And there is the other side to the coin.

Because we do police the world, we are now expected by many to do so when something goes wrong somewhere. Of course we only help when there is benefit or the powers that be can get filthy rich from it.

While I'm not a fan of the USA policing the world, I think we should help, because we can, anytime genocide is involved. We should have been in Sudan ASAP to stop the killings there, but we are letting it happen the same we did when it happened in Rwanda in 1994. In fact, we sit on out asses just about anytime there is a real problem and only throw our dick around for strategic or financial gains. Not that I can fault them for that, but don't act like world police when you only are willing to protect when you can gain from it.

I love people like you who talk out of their ass. Visitng Cuba is not the same as having to live there.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union Cuba is no threat to the US, so why where tougher sanctions imposed as recently as 2004 and 2006? For 15 strait years all UN nations vote in favor of an end to the embargo, only two vote against, the US and Israel. You really think freedom of speech is the reason?

What is really nauseous is to see how exiles living safely in the US keep rooting for more pain to be imposed on their poorer cousins..

It is rare to hear a leftist who is so open about his totalitarian beliefs. Your honesty is refreshing.

Under 10% of our military is hispanic. That is below our civilian population. You also can't enlist in our military without a green card (unless there is a special circumstance).

Making up stuff just makes you sound ignorant.

Heh.

I don't really have totalitarian beliefs - gasp (however I do commend Fidel for what he did to Cuba in regards to their literacy rate, health care and their educational system). I'm just saying that those are the rules at this time and those who break them get punished. I would LOVE for that to be changed and Cubans could openly criticize their leaders should they be inclined to do so. Everyone should have that right!!!

But rules are rules and until they are changed, each and every one of us live by some set of rules, fair or not.

I like to eat mushrooms. It's illegal damn near everywhere I go, so I don't walk around in front of people who will turn me in and eat shrooms in front of them. Cubans should be no different when talking in a bad light against their government or leader. Do that shit at home or somewhere where someone will not turn you in for saying those things. Some things are just not worth the risk. EVERY Cuban knows what is going to happen to them and probably their family should they get caught doing anything that goes against the Revolution. I just don't see why they would risk it. There are plenty of rules I break, but I'm not going to go out of my way to let the police know about them. Why would I want to do that? By me going to jail, would it really cause a change in the rules? No.

Speaking out against your government in places like Cuba or North Korea is just not a very bright idea, regardless of your beliefs. To go further, we DO have the right to speak out against our government and leaders, but I'll be damned if you're gonna catch me in front of the White House screaming "George Bush is a war criminal" all day. How long do you think it would take security, police or FBI to own my ass? Nope, just somethings are better off done in the privacy of your own home, under your bed, with the lights off.

So is that " rule " a green light for any country to invade others that are ruled by "non democratically elected" president ( dictator as you call them ) ?

If so, quite a few come to mind ....
