whats the point of getting a house now? cost too much, plus i rather use the $300k for something else... houses arent all they are cracked up to be..

you can make better returns elsewhere.. besides i just want someone to live thats warm and more fun and cheaper

It really is a surfers/wannabe/wuckfad forum.
Page views and impressions pay the rent though.

Spend some quality time with your GI Joe or your GameBoy xxweekxx.

I'm 27 years old and at your age I had to make the same decision. I had the perfect opportunity to move with a free spirit girlfriend of mine at the time. Loved that girl to pieces. We broke up over my decision to stay. My decision was based on not wanting to leave friends and family behind.

Months and eventually a couple of years passed and I got stuck in the hometown/homebody mentality, content with the Boston scene and comfortable with the same old places and friends. Bought a car, accrued bills and got stuck in my ways. And as my friends started to move away, get married, and family started doing the same I came to the realization that I made a huge mistake.

And now 5 years later I've finally worked my way back to a place where I'm financially and mentally comfortable to make the jump again. As I'm typing this the ex that I said no to is traveling the globe as a traveling nurse with her fiance.

The moral of my story is that opportunity's only come once in awhile. Take it when you can.

btw before anyone says anything I'm not saying that 27 is old. Just that I wish I took the opportunity 5 years ago.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you and im prolly 20 mins away in staten island. I'm 22, in my last year of college, made and saved some good money (offline) and now I'm just building sites and finishing school up unsure of what to do after it's over. One thing I do know though is that I love New York City and I don't wanna leave for shit. I'd travel and even stay in places for months at a time but NY feels like home.

Actually A LOT of my friends including me did just this when they were 22 fresh out of college instead of working..

What you want to do is extremely common... But wanting to up and move.. To me that's stupid.. especially a place where it will be almost impossible for you to earn a living..

Why not Asia or Europe?

What did you leave Univ/College with?

A ton of people in adult have moved to those warm places but I think they had a little more to work with than you..

Also never put any priority on your GFs feelings because if an opportunity comes up for her she will drop you SOO FAST! and you will be stuck in NJ crying to a pillow.

By the way, enjoy that depression and the coming world war too. If you treasure your illusions and are comfortable in your denial, have a blast.

You know what you call somebody who speaks one language? American.

Panama is the fastest growing country and economy in Latin America, the #1 real estate market in this HEMISPHERE and one hell of a party country. There's every imaginable water sport in two oceans an hour away from one another with a strip of mountains down the middle that add all of those options too. It's 85 degrees every day, we've got the same rainy season that Florida does and there's no natural disasters here. The US, Central and South America and the Caribbean are a couple hours flight away. There's non-stop flights to Canada and Europe and there's commuter flights all over Panama, Costa Rica and COlombia. The cost of living is great and the quality of living makes up for the stupidity of the people. I haven't washed a dish or cleaned my house in 3 years. I barely touch the kitchen and if I want to go out to eat with 4 or 5 friends, I don't have to budget in advance like you do in a decent restaurant in the states.

There are tens of thousands of foreigners from every country in the world here because there's $140,000,000,000 (that's right, BILLION) in foreign investment pouring into this country and it's a wild west, entrepreneur's dream. Unlike the US, Canada, Europe or most of the rest of the world, here you can be a big fish in a little pond and the money is just as good as it would've been 100 years ago in the US. There's opportunities everywhere for somebody with a brain and the ability to innovate. The "good 'ol boys club" can be circumvented easily with a little brain power and some payoffs. The corruption here is the good kind that helps you, not the kind that keeps you poor and scraping in the US or the kind that shoots you and kidnaps you in Mexico or Brazil.

Did I mention the women? Forget all of that feminist, "Why are you looking at me?", "You don't drive a ferrari, so fuck you" nonsense. The women here are amazing. They're gorgeous, they fuck like animals and best of all, they're actually WOMEN. They enjoy being feminine and all of that idiocy that American guys have to put up with doesn't exist. The Colombianas, Venezuelans, Dominicans, Ticas, Chinese girls, Russians and yes, even Americans, Canadians, French girls, Dutch, German...on and on. They're all here for the same reasons you are and they're a blast to party with in this place that loves to party.

Stop thinking so small and THINK FOR YOURSELF!

I think what he's doing is great and I encourage him and anyone else who isn't tied to WalMart and Applebees for existence to consider it too. There's nothing more freeing, more gratifying and more amazing than to live out of a backpack.

The world's waiting and if you're here, you can most likely work on a laptop. WTF are you waiting for?

Dude, I have moved once a year every year since 2001 and I love it.. Every time I pack up my webcam and my fav stuff, leave the rest of the crap behind, and move somewhere where I know no one and nothing about the area. This time last year I was in Denver, Colordao, and now I live 8 miles from the beach in Orange County.. and I don't find it scary it all.. its amazing and exciting and liberating.. grow some balls, dump ur girl and travel.

Its funny how very few (one maybe) people mentioned education. You said you were fine where you are and the people you knew while you were in college. I think a good temporary solution would be to continue college? Why not? You never said you didn't like school or the work involved. Just because your degree is finished doesn't mean you HAVE to be done.

yeah college is fun but expensive.. i could go for my MBA but why spend $40k/yr for a degree i most likely wont use.. my bachelors so far is still not useful..$100k later and it hasnt helped me make any money so far..

here is a quick bit from someone who has been there before...when i was 20 (30s now) i simply just got on a greyhound and said i'll figure it out, better then sitting around in a state of stagnation (i lived in a small college town in the midwest)

do what you want man, whatever it is do it...doesn't matter if anyone thinks it sucks or you might not like it or you might fail, don't hold back. explore, live life and just enjoy it while you can

you are young and can take chances and makes moves without major problems and other factors that you need to consider. if you are considering something do it or one day you'll be sitting at the bar sipping on your 5th saying i "could have" and "should have". i know many that are in that situation.

if i never took risk i would not be where i am today, literally just doing whatever i want to do now without financial consequences because the chances i took paid off, it all started with a duffel bag and a bus ticket.i am sure you are in better shape. your opportunities in life may only come once and a single act can change your outcome or path

Just like those who went West, the sailors who got on ships going to nowhere and discovered new worlds and every other person brave enough to drop the status quo and think for themselves, there will always be sacrifices and fear of the uknown. But the rewards, the experiences and the wisdom of a life well lived are worth the change that some of you so desperately fear.

Thanks for the novel response but you took what I said completely out of context.

Completely missing my point. You also put words into my mouth reading deeper into what I said than what I actually did say.

Who the fuck do you think you are? Bill O'Reilly? No.

I said what I said as simply and as blunt as I could.

I'm not going to argue with you.

You're in Boston??

Get the hell out!

My cousin from So Cal tried to live there, he said its the coldest place in the USA and sucks assholes. He has so many stories about how bad it sucks, its hilarious.

I was born in NJ, and lived there while I was young before moving to NY here where I've lived for most of my adult life. I can sympathize with you 100%. For the past year or so I've been constantly nagged with this painfully persistent notion that there is so much more in life and I'm not going to find it in the tri-state area. It's a deep feeling that's beginning to permeate every aspect of my existence and dominate every sector of my mind, and I feel it will do so until it will somehow materialize and tear me from this computer chair.

I have an impending surgical procedure, and once I've recovered from that and have found a steady, full-time, telecommute job, I will sell off all my shit and head West. It will pain me to leave my friends and family behind, but they'll only disappear from my daily life, and not my life in general, and the promise of undiscovered territory is one that is too powerful to ignore.

I hope you make the decision to follow through with your desires.

I'd love to move out and go back to Minneapolis or Seattle or some
other big city. Maybe somewhere warm, down south.
One huge problem tho... Finances.
Normal jobs in South Dakota don't pay enuf to do the whole "rent + bills" gig
and #2... the freelance graphic design gig doesn't get u far...
especially in the conservative, local scene that I'm in.
And most friends are outa state or are married/with kids so
that illiminates an option for trustworthy roomates. LOL!

wow so she's exactly like ever other girl.

before the wedding.

the guilt trip is bullshit.
if she cared about you, she'd care about your happiness and not just HER OWN.

and if she doesnt know what she's going to do without you, then she's needy and a loser who definitely needs to learn.

hopefully you're smart enough to be wearing a condom
