The web 2.0. phenomenon - more idiots than ever getting exposed

I thought about this many times, and after being intensely present on the internet for the past 4 years, I'm absolutely sure that the whole concept of "anyone" being able to express his, well whatever he expresses, is a complete fail that only supports the fellow idiocy among idiots that now can create their own virtual fellowships and massively waste the internet space.

Even If there would be the smartest person in the world speaking about something they're expert in you'll always find 20 virtual idiots with more or less serious issues who will argue with them about one plus one and call them names - the Gauss curve doesn't lie.

Everyone now can be popular and have his virtual "supporters" and virtual "challenges" and virtual "existence" and virtual feel of "importance".

Fat chicks that would in the regular jungle have to suffer from serious issues now have their my space bullshit and 500 fellow fat friends who are jerking off to their pictures and keeping them "popular" with wishes and I don't know what.

Everyone can be cool these days - it just takes a little bit creativity to turn your looser little ego into something that looks good from the outside, something you always wanted to be - a virtual übermensch that is super cool and has 1000's of virtual friends.

Well, actually, by spewing bullshit on internet for 2 hours a day for 5 years it's the same effect as if you spent 5 months in prison, you'll never get that time back.

And if you are an idiot, and someone relates to you, it's most likely also an idiot.

I hope those idiots realize this.

Your thoughts?

It's amusing when you meet people who you think you know on a board and find they are totally different in real life.

Are you looking for fellow idiots to agree with you in order to inflate your online ego with this idiot waste of bandwidth post? Aren't you glad you have an outlet where you can post whatever braindead idea you have and everyone else can rush in and agree? Of course you are, all the idiots are. Welcome to the club.

Yes, I agree that I should dedicate more time to my ultimate goal of world domination instead of honing my rhetorical skills on a crowd of braindead sheeps.

Great commentary on the open and "democratic" nature of the Internet and its susceptibility to mob rule and pissing contests.

Live and let live. If you don't like fat chics don't vote for her on her myspace. Yeah, everyone is "important" now that's good isn't it ? 15 minutes of fame, Andy Warhol was right but they way things are now his point is now mute ... I don't think we even now what effect this is having on society right now

it's out of control like everything else.

Here's a question for you, Carlos: Since the Internet is "democratic" and is open to mob rule, can it also "import" checks and balances from real world democratic societies that keep mob rule/collective delusions in check? What technical analogs are available.

In forums, one often used check against mob rule is to dig up a link that points to a rational and real answer. However, this is often attacked on the following bases: it is located on a site that is opinionated or has a slant--therefore the facts in the link can't be trusted, the link isn't dated or is dated in the past--therefore the facts aren't new enough, etc. Sometimes, if people are determined to drink the COOLAID, there's nothing reasonable people can do even if the COOLAID package has a Skull and Crossbones warning on it.

Good question,

Apart form the problem of "verifiable" data on the internet..

Are we talking about more regulation?

How to realize this?

How to cage the idiot that was already unleashed?

The real question is,

WHO would benefit from this?

Let's talk about the web2.0 popularity from the point of those who run these sites:

if you'll be sensible, cultured, educated individual with social skills most people will always hate you as far as most of the people are dumb and mediocre and if you want to manipulate them you can never act as if you're superior to them - this is something I respect in business but I definitely won't respect on GFY, because I enjoy having fun time from time.

Let's talk about the web2.0 from the point of those who have access to the data from these sites:

I actually believe one of the main things that are so great about web 2.0. is that not only that these idiots are expressing themselves, but also that they don't hesitate to expose their personal data and preferences.

If I would rule the CIA I would buy google / myspace and facebook as the first point of my career, of course I'm sure that CIA has better brains in their team than me and they did this already.

SO:

I don't think there's a solution to this on the horizon anytime soon apart from not posting

As weird as it may be to quote myself, the point of this was actually that you probably don't want cultured environment as one of the mass / everyone's web 2.0. site owners.

But haven't you ever seen The Fifth Element? Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich will save us! Sorry, couldn't help it, that's one of my fave movies of all time.

Brad, I'm with you,

I believe you should also have installed the anti troll automatic baseball bat and an automatic ass kicker next to each computer, that would automatically beat the shit out of every idiot who's abusing the freedom of expression on the internet with uncontrollable idiocy.

i think its pretty funny for instance youtube videos.... check the comments on ANY video and people are fighting with eachother, calling names etc.... its the perfect example of how people act when theyre anonymous - so how people would like to act but cant in real life. You can see the real nature of people when theyre anonymous on the web.... almost everyone changes to a crazy loud mouth picking fights with others.... that is human nature: destructive

It is already changing. Facebook is still growing and on there you are you. Your friends are your real friends. And on there you do get a lot less fighting. Orkut in Brazil is the same deal. Myspace hopefully will grow up a bit.

On the other hand, they have proven that people at the center of large networks on these sites are happily then people at the edge of network of friends. So do you hate fat chicks so much that you want to take this away?

I agree, GFY compared to Youtube or any other super popular is actually a VERY DECENT place!

You sure have a point, but if you can have real life, why go virtual?

Of course the real reason why I use GFY is that I want to remain in contact with my good friends overseas and, very rarely, only very rarely to troll a bit time from time and have some fun, so I could care less about the average idiots.

Oh well, why do I even complain?

I believe it can definitely fit into our mutual business dynamic,

I'm offering 50 full length videos for an upsell, how does that sound?

Another thing I noticed during my recent sociological research.

I was just simulating a meltdown and you could see the urge of those, who practically couldn't step out of the keyboard just to attack me - something like an individual who's anonymously locked in his car and behaves totally insane - road rage phenomenon.

Here's my thesis

Before the web 2.0.

People were generally spending time say with:

a) work

b) sleep

c) education - gathering information / discussion

d) home duties

e) fun / social life

Now we have this f) in the game

f) virtual life / virtual ego building / virtual fights etc.

So now the time for a) till e) is limited, because many are rather pursuing the anonymous and harmless / unfortunately also worthless f) and that, as was ALWAYS proved to me so far, is mainly a real waste of time without any real value (imagine this would be a non "pseudo business" board).

Is this another step towards lowering the qualities of an average individual?

Will the new web 2.0. generation have trouble identifying with the qualities that were praised before the web 2.0. era?

Will there be more virtual heroes without real social and interpersonal skills in the streets who will rather "solve" their issues virtually apart from stepping out of the door or looking into the mirror?

What's your view?
