My friend is 43 and just had a baby

She is married, her husband is 37 and they have a 7 year old. Both work-not rich, but they live decently. She had a beautiful and healthy new baby daughter last night. I am very happy for her. But guess some people have commented to her about her age and it's bumming her out.

Does age really matter if a woman is at a certain age as long as she has the ability to love and care for a child? I mean, if a woman is still able to have a child--what is the age thing about?

this isn't about me so don't slam me and no, she isn't available for a MILF shoot.

It's a long asked question of how old is too old. And since it is a close friend, it got me thinking more about the topic.

I wouldnt want to have a baby at that age. She will over 60 when that kid leaves for college.

But, if it makes her happy then who is anyone to judge her.

I would say somewhere between 40-45 is too old. But even if I disagree with someone having a baby at an older age, it's not my place to make comments about it either.

She will be 61 years old by the time her child is 18. Almost retired by the time her child can drink... I think that's too old. At 43, she should be becoming a grandmother not a mother imho...

Some people will think she's the grandmother, 43's old but not that old. Tell he not to have any more though.

everyone has opinions. I'm sure she knew not everyone would see things the way she does. Fuck em though. I do think however that sometimes people don't think about the kid and just think about themselves when doing such things 43 isn't bad but there are even older people who have had kids and you've got to wonder, did they even think of the childs health or who is going to look after them when they have died before the kid even hits 18 or 20?

Well, who are we to decide at what age people can have a kid? I think age pretty much equals wisdom so if she decides to become a mother at her 40's that's perfectly fine.

the reasons doctors dont want women having babies that late is so many are born with recessive genes - which in many cases equals health problems
but since both mom and baby are healthy and happy
it is all good!

If she is emotionally, physically and financially able to care for a child that is all that matters. Tell her to ignore the haters comments and enjoy her child.

My only reservations about the situation would be whether or not the pregnancy was planned or if it was an "oops, we weren't really looking to have another kid."

I got snipped at 35 to prevent such a problem.

typical jealous friends, it never fucking fails! if she would be 20 with a baby you girls would say shes miserable with the guy, if she would be very obviously happy with the guy and the baby is a girl you girls would say poor thing she really wanted a boy, its pathetic!

be truly happy for her and thats it!

congrats to her and her family!

It would be interesting to hear how the two year old twins of the 60+ year old mom who just passed away would respond to that, last I heard there was no family to take them and they would become wards of the state but of course the mom had her wish before she died and gave birth.

There are so many children in the world that could use the love.

If the kid came out healthy I would say the risk factor has passed. I just can't see dealing with teenagers at her age.

Little late to think about that now though, so good luck to them.

it depends on where you live. in LA, that is about at the end of your time but still acceptable. I knew two people when I lived there that both were having their first child and they were over the age of 40

in PA its completely different. I get asked "when are you going to have kids old man" pretty often as this is something most people do by the age of 25, right after they get married at age 24.

F that, im 29 and not ready for no kids

I have two close friends who were late in life "surprises" when their parents didn't think they could still have kids, as was my fiancee, and I was primarily raised by my grandparents. We are all very well adjusted.

Personally, having a very young mother, I think older adults make better parents.

I feel, especially in today's society, haivng a child in your 40's is pretty acceptable. The only thing that concerns me with older mothers is the risk of down syndrome. Once you pass 50 then new issues are raised, such as can a 70 year old adequately parent an adolescent / teenager, or life expectancy - will the parent reasonably be around long enough to see the child through to adulthood.

If she had a kid at 18 she would be a slut, and coz she is 43 she is too old? You say her and her husband both work, they live a nice life so too will the baby. She isn't too old at all, and good luck to her if she is happy.

Now for the bad, no matter where she is or where she goes she will get nice comments on her grand daughter, its just gonna happen. Tell her not to be bummed out about it, just enjoy being a mom again.

She is not too old to have children. Congrats to them! It would be interesting to see how many people think 43 is too old to be a new dad versus 43 being too old to be a new mom.

It's not really my place to say whether she's too old or not. More power to her. I think her friends who are giving negative comments on her age and bumming her out are pretty rude though.

i dont think that is too old. people are living a lot longer these days.

but besides the age, the main thing is if she really wants a kid, and loves the baby, then that is all that matters. there are plenty of 21 and 22 year olds that have kids they dont want... age isnt always the deciding factor!

I'm in my mid 30s and have a four year old daughter. Looking back, I think I would have preferred to start things at least a few years earlier. I see retirement as spending quality adult time with my life partner (and by then my daughter will be mid 20s too), I couldn't imagine retiring when I had an early-teens daughter or son...

F that, im 29 and not ready for no kids
it is like that here in Louisiana. Teen pregnancy capital of the USA, and most people pop out kids at 20. I'm almost 35 having my first, and people seem to think I am old having a kid. Told me it would be hard on my body, etc.

There are multiple 40 something women in my family who have had kids with no problems. Unless you live hard and plan on dying in your 60's, I don't see anything wrong with it. I know chicks down here who started having kids at 15, and I look at myself as having 20 more years of life experience to parent with than that.

good for her! 43 is not too old at all.
