Why Hollywood why? Red Dawn and Wargames remake? WTF?
Why are they remaking all the movies, and sometimes remaking them even again?
Very disappointing news, though they are saying Leonardo DiCaprio may do Wargames so maybe that one would be decent. But Red Dawn... fucking christ. |

Thank goodness for the independent production companies and record labels and the internet. In 20 years, the entertainment industry will be MUCH DIFFERENT than it is today.

No One could be Buford T. Justice like Jackie Gleason

He owned that roll, but so did Burt Reynolds and Jerry Reed. Gleason was the best though. Hands down, one of the best characters ever. "Jr, when I get home, I'm gonna punch your momma right in the mouth."

i am getting very tired with remakes. i guess they figure there is a whole generation who never saw these movies or saw them as kids and think they'll come back to see the remake. i am especially disappointed with wargames. it seemed like it could actually happen back then due to it being such a new technology...now i just don't know.

Remaking either one will ruin the Art of the first ones.

I look at it like this:
There are two sides to the movie business. There is the product side and the art side. They remake movies like Red Dawn because it was a hit once and now they will remake it and cast it with current hot young actors and it will be a hit again. Some people my age that remember the original might go see it to see how it is and young people will go see it because it looks cool, has actors they know in it and they have no idea it is a remake. It will make money. Same with the A-team movie and half the movies that are made these days. They are a product. They want to make something they feel will appeal to the masses and sell. The second side is the art side. These are movies that are made because the creators want to create something artistic, meaningful and interesting. They may be very commercial and successful, but that is not necessarily the reason they are made. They are made because they are good ideas and make good movies. You need the first for the second to exist. A lot of the artistic movies are box office failures. They often lose money or just barely break even. The product movies rake in the cash not just in ticket sales and DVD sales but in merchandise and licensing. Making a product movie like Transformers gives the studios the cash to take a chance on making a smaller more artistic movie without having to worry about it making money. So while I often get a little frustrated with the dreck that comes out of Hollywood, I understand that it is a necessary evil. |

I think that movies are made mainly to sell.
So, the purpose and the goal of the movie would be to sell as many movie tickets as possible.

moviegoers vote with their dollars...if they stop going to see remakes, the remakes will stop...but I don't see that happening any time soon...

I kinda liked the Peter Jackson King Kong remake better than the previous ones. That's about all I can think of off hand.
The worst remake I seen recently had to be Friday the 13th. Totally pointless and added nothing to the series. At least the recent Rob Zombie Halloween remake tried to add something to the series with more backstory. |

War Games rocked because of the 80's style computers and super computers that used to take up a whole room back then. Now with the internet and pocket sized everything, I don't think the movie would be as good.

Cape Fear (Scorcese Version) The Painted Veil (starring Ed Norton) Dawn of the Dead (recent remake, same theme totally different movie) The Blob (80's Version) The Thing (John Carpenter / Wuthering Heights (Ralph Fiennes / Juliette Binoche ver) Batman- can't say the recent series doesn't kick the shit out of anything that's been done previously. Sometimes people can take a classic theme or work of literature and retell it in their own way, like DeNiro as Frankenstein's monster or Gary Oldman in Coppola's adaptation of Dracula. Shakespeare constantly gets updated and retold fro different angles. It's not always a bad thing if they can bring something to the table to make it better like a new perspective. The problem with remakes is when they change very little and just try to stylize it to match the director like Rob Zombie's Halloween, etc. |

actually the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre is - besides a few funny moments like when they try to give the hammer to Grandpa - kind of boring. nothing but running and screaming. the remake with Jessica Biel was way more entertaining
