I originally tried to shop this idea around about 8 months ago and nobody from any major networks seemed interested in getting back to me... I'm not sure if it's because my background lies in mainstream or what the problem is but that's another post entirely :P

The future of content delivery is IPTV (a generic term but I'll expound)... people don't CHOOSE to consume porn on their computers. They do so because of convenience and the sheer volume of options available to them.

The next step in content delivery is being able to get your pay site up to allow for members to stream content via an IPTV app. There are many variations and options out there for delivery methods and I've seen a few press releases from companies using dedicated hardware. The dedicated hardware route is NOT what you want. Being pigeon holed into one specific piece of hardware that a consumer must purchase is NOT the way to go.

The most interesting press release I've seen as of late is Reality Kings using BoXXXee... while I haven't checked out BoXXXee, it's parent Boxee is one of the most widely used apps and in my professional opinion will be the largest player in the game. Say what you will about the folks behind Reality Kings but you can't say they're not progressive. These guys are always pushing hard (even if much of it is gray area)...

Regardless, Boxee is open source and you can write your own plugins / apps for it. (This includes authing against your existing servers for members) Boxee runs on Windows, OS X, and Linux; DLINK has also jumped into the Boxee game and will be offering a dedicated piece of hardware for less than $200. Which is a very reasonable price point. This combination of accessibility covers every base.

What this means for you is you can offer the ability to watch your entire content library (images and video) from the comfort of members' couches, beds, and anywhere else they have a TV. Many tech savvy members already download videos rather than streaming just so they CAN watch them on their TV via whatever method they're using. However this method is VASTLY superior. Being able to watch any video, on demand, paying the same price (or increased price if you'd like) from any video outlet in your home is the way of the future. Consumers are catching on fast and positioning yourself NOW will be crux in the coming years. Playing catchup is not the game you want to be playing.

The tech is here now and you really shouldn't wait (beating the dead horse)... I, myself, will be developing a Boxee app for my own personal usage in the near future and I'd be happy to share my experiences with any interested parties. The Boxee API is absolutely brilliant and allows you to completely skin every aspect of your own app. Custom layouts, graphics, searches, whatever you want Boxee allows for it.

And to all you business owners who couldn't be bothered to return an email (or 10 in the case of Shap)... Go Fuck Yourself! You could have been there 6 months ago!

That is correct.

It has been covered in the trades a bit the past few months. In a few years, those who do not have their own clients and traffic network will find themselves being forced out by technology. The cost of doing business is going to continue to rise as new technology in delivery systems arise.

This is why I have had to revise my 2010 plans and expand my own traffic network.

There are a lot of changes in the pipe, and just as traffic is being gobbled up by a few big players in the industry while old traffic is dying out in the TGP business model. New delivery systems are on the way. Keep in mind for the smaller and middle class porn companies.. this is going to put greater control of your products in the hands of a very few who can afford the networks and infrastructure.

This means either you are going to have to partner up, most likely getting the rip off deals like you see today in VOD. Or you are going to have to build up your own client and base of customers to lock them in for the future. Or you spend the money to build the mobile apps, and other things needed to keep up with emerging technology and distribution.

Long story short. The adult industry is being reshaped, and soon a handful of companies will control the vast majority of both technology/distribution and traffic.

That's exactly what this is

In fact you can use your iPhone as a Boxee remote it works over your local network so no pointing at something no "have to have your device in line of sight". It can be hidden behind your TV or in a cabinet or whatever you want.

I am sure it's in development. Just as you see in that Windows 7 is my idea commercial. You can start seeing where people are accessing one computer from others, and computer to the TV screen.

I have been talking with people in the adult industry about the advent of IPTV for almost two years now and I have to agree with you nobody that I talked to seemed to have any interest.

With the advances in content delivery outpacing most all other aspects of the industry this is the type of revolutionary technology that will be a "Game Changer".

From all the research I have done the past five years in the adult industry I feel that this is the "Future" of content delivery for our industry.

What I do right now is have a wireless keyboard / mouse hooked up to my laptop which is hooked up to my tv via VGA cable.

I sit on the couch and do everything from there and it works fine for entertainment! Pop in a dvd and I'm good to go! Or if I don't want to use my DVD player, I download something (legal of course).

Edit: now going back to what you said, if there was only a way to make this a bit simpler for the average user.

The future is actually here now and it's TVs that are actually set up with this functionality built into them.

Small form nettop PCs are also a nice addition to any home entertainment center.

My two main TVs have teeny tiny Windows 7 boxes that run XBMC with a small wireless keyboard.

Dell sells them for as little as $249:

Until technology becomes 'one' major thing that does it all, and it's super cheap so the mass majority can afford it, and setting it up is stupid it and it improves peoples lives.... the trend will stay multiple technologies that benefit the persons personal desires, for the moment.

Meaning... your content should be making money on every technology possible. But at the same time it means others have to understand companies can only take on so much and balance what they think will make more money, now vs. 5 years from now.

It's coming for sure.

I just bought a new BluRay player for $250
I'm streaming full movies from blockbuster with it, watching youtube and internet music as well. All I had to do was get an optional network adapter for it, put in my network settings and I was in and streaming.

I can definitely see this coming. Downloading is yesterdays news. On demand streaming is where it's at.

We haven't had cable in years... nothing but a PC and a Mac now, paid tv stations legally for free, free tv online and air, games from any console, rent movies and record, record like a dvr...lots of software to help do allll types of stuff. also, there will be a new product released this year to offer cable/satellite tv via an internet connection bypassing the infrastructure costs of the cable/sat companies.

A) It's free - you can run it on any existing computer (or buy a dedicated box)

B) It does everything - Netflix, CrunchyRoll, Last.FM, Pandora, you name it there's already apps for it. The amount of support Boxee is garnering is astounding.

Plenty of talk about it at conferences, and in the trades. Always amazes me how a lot of the board banter is never keeping up on these things. Not to say people have not read about them, but there are few good serious business discussions about these things that will benefit us all.

On the boards, it is almost like they run 6-12 months behind. Maybe that is good, bad, or a product of who's left chatting on them. I dunno, and do not mean it as a negative swipe at anyone.

All of my main clients grew in size last year... 100% of them grew. None of my clients that allow me to see stats are brograms, they are all hard working affiliate programs that pounded the pavement and grew from the hard work.

Several have said "record numbers" and "pre-2002 totals" happened last year and starting this year.

The game has changed, again... it's now bigger than ever!

Thanks... I am SuperMan...and don't underestimate who my clients are. The combined base of sales of my clients is without question a massive sample of our Industry.

How about this, your sales are down because you fuck around on gfy too damn much. Do you have a sales team that finds affiliates while you post, daily? Are you always building onto your traffic network, every single day? Do you force them to produce results?

It's not really hard to grow an affiliate program.... it's actually, very easy.

Boxee is cool... I just don't need a lot of it, I have other technologies that are far better. Like my head unit streams Internet radio already, at extremely good qualities. Boxee can't tell the difference in voices to control content on tv either, shit gets really g33ky - but at least boxee has a chance to be here for a while....

We need the technology to become one, very badly. Make it so grandma doesn't have to figure out how to operate a rocket ship to turn the tv on.

Even in form of bluetooth devices, you install the software....plug one BT into your comp and the second device into your TV
Drag everything you want displayed into a set folder a BOOM, full access.

I use XBMC, which is what Boxee code is based off of. You get a lot more control over your media library as well the look and feel of your setup.

I have both installed, but we like XBMC a lot more.

One thing I haven't checked is to see if Boxee apps and XMBC apps are interchangeable.

I'm not sure if it's because my background lies in mainstream or what the problem is but that's another post entirely :P The future of content delivery is IPTV (a generic term but I'll expound)... people don't CHOOSE to consume porn on their computers. They do so because of convenience and the sheer volume of options available to them. The next step in content delivery is being able to get your pay site up to allow for members to stream content via an IPTV app. There are many variations and options out there for delivery methods and I've seen a few press releases from companies using dedicated hardware. The dedicated hardware route is NOT what you want. Being pigeon holed into one specific piece of hardware that a consumer must purchase is NOT the way to go. The most interesting press release I've seen as of late is Reality Kings using BoXXXee... while I haven't checked out BoXXXee, it's parent Boxee is one of the most widely used apps and in my professional opinion will be the largest player in the game. Say what you will about the folks behind Reality Kings but you can't say they're not progressive. These guys are always pushing hard (even if much of it is gray area)... Regardless, Boxee is open source and you can write your own plugins / apps for it. (This includes authing against your existing servers for members) Boxee runs on Windows, OS X, and Linux; DLINK has also jumped into the Boxee game and will be offering a dedicated piece of hardware for less than $200. Which is a very reasonable price point. This combination of accessibility covers every base. What this means for you is you can offer the ability to watch your entire content library (images and video) from the comfort of members' couches, beds, and anywhere else they have a TV. Many tech savvy members already download videos rather than streaming just so they CAN watch them on their TV via whatever method they're using. However this method is VASTLY superior. Being able to watch any video, on demand, paying the same price (or increased price if you'd like) from any video outlet in your home is the way of the future. Consumers are catching on fast and positioning yourself NOW will be crux in the coming years. Playing catchup is not the game you want to be playing. The tech is here now and you really shouldn't wait (beating the dead horse)... I, myself, will be developing a Boxee app for my own personal usage in the near future and I'd be happy to share my experiences with any interested parties. The Boxee API is absolutely brilliant and allows you to completely skin every aspect of your own app. Custom layouts, graphics, searches, whatever you want Boxee allows for it. And to all you business owners who couldn't be bothered to return an email (or 10 in the case of Shap)... Go Fuck Yourself! In a few years, those who do not have their own clients and traffic network will find themselves being forced out by technology. The cost of doing business is going to continue to rise as new technology in delivery systems arise. This is why I have had to revise my 2010 plans and expand my own traffic network. There are a lot of changes in the pipe, and just as traffic is being gobbled up by a few big players in the industry while old traffic is dying out in the TGP business model. New delivery systems are on the way. Keep in mind for the smaller and middle class porn companies.. this is going to put greater control of your products in the hands of a very few who can afford the networks and infrastructure. This means either you are going to have to partner up, most likely getting the rip off deals like you see today in VOD. Or you are going to have to build up your own client and base of customers to lock them in for the future. Or you spend the money to build the mobile apps, and other things needed to keep up with emerging technology and distribution. Long story short.
