Any foods that provide you with natural, noticeable energy?

with all the energy drinks we certainly are on an energy craze.

does anybody have a particular food they eat that they get a noticeable boost from?

Mesclun greens are better than just lettuce: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesclun

Any freshly picked vegetables are a good start, I'm interested in what other people recommend as well.

A good portion of lentils. (replace rice or potatoes with lentils).
Eat that before you hit the gym. You will feel a noticeable boost. Like my brother said when he took my advice: "It's like I'm on drugs..."

Any vegetable eaten within about 3 hours after being picked is bound to give you a nice boost. Grow it yourself so you can just walk up to your plants and graze.

I don't eat enough lettuce to buy it, but if I had a little plant in my window for sandwiches that would be nice. What could be grown like that?

You can buy this Red Bull Energy drink and it does increase your energy, like eating carbohydrates would do. Yes, any nutritionist would say that carbohydrates add energy to your body. You can eat carbohydrates before working out to have more energy.

I don't get any energy at all from Red Bull. I do drink it because I enjoy the flavor. If anything, it gives me a crash.

Have you tried Quinoa? I havent, but I've looked into it. My store doesnt carry it, but Amazon has it. Lots of protein and 8 amino acids evidently makes it a vegan staple. It's classified as a "super food" because it very closely matches the needs of humans.
No gluten and you can mill it into flour as well.

I think 3 to 8 hours is approximately how long it takes the natural sugar in vegetables to turn into starches.

That is what I am doing, but moved it outside for nice weather. Next winter I will be doing indoor lettuce [hydroponic or aquaponic perhaps].

Quinoa is amazing. It's super versatile, so you can do just about anything with it - mix it into salads, soups & curries, use as a rice or granola substitute, etc. It's a complete protein, so it satisfies your hunger and provides a lot of energy.

No, I dont run a health food store. By "my store" I only meant my local supermarket.

My need to eat better and take care of myself after heart attack is what drove me to research some better foods and start a garden.

Grab a bag of mixed frozen fruit/berries. You can dump some in a bowl and eat them as they melt, or toss them in a blender with some ice and yogurt to make a smoothie.

Very unscientific but generally eating anything (that's not bad for you) has a physiological effect. For me personally a handful or organic raisins seems to give a little boost. I doubt them being organic has anything to do with it, I just buy them in bulk from the logic Whole Foods.

I recommend Water - double or triple your water intake - you won't lose as much energy. Filter your tap water and drink like a fish.

Truly water is the life energy your body needs, every single thing in your body requires water, that includes healing, energy, things you wouldn't ever think of. It helps heal you, it rebuilds you, it even helps with dreams.

Water also cleans your body of all the bad stuff you put in to it, pushing it through your skin and organs faster. Again things you wouldn't ever think of gets into your body. The faster your body can cycle out the bad, the faster it can start doing more good.

Don't put more into your body, until you put more of the key ingredient it requires first...
