Oysters/mussels lovers -- what's your favorite way to eat them?

Raw?
Smoked?
Steamed?
Fried?
In garlic butter or au naturale?

Anyone else ever had them on the barbecue? What about deep fried with a light breading? I've had them both these ways and both were terrific.

Personally I'm not picky, I'll eat them just about any old way.

You?

Mussels or clams, steamed and served in a garlic broth, with toasted pumpernickel and a beer.

Oysters... disgusting.

MMmm oysters on the half shell. When I lived in Florida I used to go to an oyster bar with my girlfriend and buy them buy the buckets. I can't get enough. I will however eat them steamed and fried oyster sammiches are pretty darn tasty too.

I prefer mussels steamed though. Steamed in a garlic butter sauce and served over angel hair pasta. Yum

Raw... don't like them cooked. Whenever I visit the SF Bay Area I try and have lunch at one of the oyster farm/restaurants on Tomales Bay, about 45 minutes north of SF.

Oysters = on a toothpick, wrapped around a jalapeno slice, dusted in cayenne and sauteed in butter

Mussels = in a white wine, garlic, olive oil and basil/oregano sautee.

I'm a seafood fanatic, but I just can't understand raw oysters. When you chew them its like snot, and when you shoot them....well shit, it's just tasteless and expensive.

You live in Seattle and don't like oysters? Ka-razy-nessss.

If I judged all food soley by how it looks I'd have never tried chili since it looks like dog vom. Glad I don't, I love chili. Oysters are one of those foods that has so many good ways of being served but the best way is raw, because they taste incredible and as a bonus when they slide down your throat they go down like snot. :D

Seriously, get past the looks, man up and at least try it before you go knocking it. If you like seafood at all you will like oysters.

I find that completely easy to believe, since I like canned oysters too. I usually have them with triscuit crackers but any old cracker will do.

Oysters - raw, or, Kilpatrick http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/880/oysters+kilpatrick

Mussels - cooked in white wine, garlic, fresh tomatoes and parsley, with a fresh baguette.

I love good food.

It is good. I don't bother with the rock salt underneath, but you need to be careful otherwise you easily end up burning the underside, and overcooking them. I normally only put them under for 3 or 4 minutes, and pre-cook the bacon (lazy method is to chop it all up fine and microwave for 30 seconds ).

Any way I can get them. Oysters RAW (yum), steamed and dipped in a little lemon and butter, or fried and inside a po'boy. Mussels are great cooked with shallots, lemon, butter and a sprinkling of parsley on top or throw them in a pasta with pretty much the same ingredients.
