I found walking the dog an hour a day actually did better for me than the gym three times a week. That's a brisk walk, mind you.

Eat better and move more. No "diet" needed.

A lot of flab is actually just excess water. You'd be surprised at the results if you go salt-free for at least 2 weeks. The body misses the salt-water ratio you had previously so to compensate for less remaining salt, the body sheds water. End result: weight loss. After 2 weeks shift to a low salt as opposed to no salt diet. To sustain the weight loss, exercise is key.

No diet needed. Unless you're eating 3,000+ calories a day. And most fatties who are eating that much are eating really shitty food.

If you are fat but eat normally (read: You dont stuff your face with terrible foods), move more. Walk for 30 minutes a day at a brisk pace (3.5-4.0mph). Stop eating processed food.

Bam, you are now losing weight.

You can eat 10,000 calories a day and still lose weight. It's calories in vs. calories out. Everyone remember the hype around michael phelps eating 10,000 calories a day, yet being lean as hell? All he did was burn calories all day. That's it.

This is a link to an infomercial that I ran across just today.

Obviously it is trying to sell you a program, which may or may not be worthwhile.

Regardless, it is still a very informative commercial, with a lot of interesting points you may be able to use, even without purchasing anything...

I started about 7 months ago, using the standard Wii Fit. I picked my own routine which included yoga, boxing and some balance exercises. Last month my balance board died, and the cost to replace it while upgrading to Wii Fit+ was $20-30 so I did the upgrade, and am glad I did.

It has a lot more exercises and has an option to do a combined workout (strength, yoga, balance, aerobics). I decided to go that route and it gives me different exercise combinations every day. It has me doing yoga moves I would never consider doing because of an injury I suffered back in 86. Messed up my left foot so has extremely limited ROM.

I do them and yeah, they hurt, but I can definitely see a difference after just two weeks. Some of the moves still kick my ass, but as I do them over and over I notice that I am getting better at them.

I am down about 25 lbs from 7 months ago and I attribute a good portion of it to Wii Fit+ (and dedication). I do it every day. I can't wait to get my juice extractor. I have a feeling things will get real good then.

I think you know what what is good for you, what is an appropriate portion, etc. Stop eating fast food, get into the habit of cooking yourself dinner - say a chicken breast and some brocolli. Oatmeal for breakfast. A salad for lunch. I mean, you know this stuff, right? I think a common sense approach is better than any fad diet. And I will 3rd yoga as being excellent. It will improve the quality of your life in ways you never even considered.

impressive results! i can relate to the feeling you get when you start hitting the yoga poses. as balanced as i can be on the scoot, i was surprised at how hard the yoga balance postures are for me though. hah

I recommend Weight Watchers. You can eat what you want, everything is a point system, but their food guide and dining out guide make it extremely easy. If you stick to it, you will lose weight.

cut carbs
switch to whole grain wheat (not wheat, but whole grain wheat)
eat smaller portions, and eat them 5-6 times a day
cut sugar out
cut fried foods out
eat as much as raw foods as you can (raw nuts, fruits, veggies - they are all good for you)
go walking

i've found i can eat a protein meal after 7, along with some fibrous vegetables. but certainly no complex carbs unless you are training super hard. when i wake up in the middle of the night, i'll make a quick protein shake. got to keep the muscles flooded with protein or they start to get eaten up.

April 1 of this year, I weighed in at 277.

I went on a low-carb diet and got a membership at my local gym.

I started using a treadmill or upright bike for about a hour every third day and got my heartrate up to about 90% for weight and age.

Today, I am at 245 lbs. That is 32 lbs in 2.5 months. My gut is disappearing really fast.

I'm satisfied with how weightloss is progressing.

This is crucial to losing weight and something I overlooked for a long time:

Choose 1-2 veg you like raw and also a dried fruit you like. Keep the veg cut up and ready right in the front of the refrig so you see them all the time. Dried fruit in front too. Each in a nice little tupperware container or such. This may seem silly (keeping these in front and in a handsome container) but it works. I like celery and dried apricots.

Cut meal portions to 2/3 normal portions then at the end of meal (more so) eat the raw veg.

This does some great things:
1) Fills you up and you're satisfied plus you get to (mostly) eat what you always did
2) Cuts calories big time over time
3) Puts roughage after the food in the digestive track.
4) You're eating veg (which you must) without dressings

Snacking: Instead of going and slicing a slice of cheese have dried fruit or raw veg once in a while. Not everytime but once in a while will make a big diff over time.

Also as said, avoid wheat bread except "100% whole wheat" which otoh is excellent. Also avoid eating the simple carbs of course.

Someone really overweight has to get raw veg in their diet and chances are they were not getting them before unless they were full of (soybean oil) dressing too.

It isn't so much what raw veg brings to the table, but rather what raw veg keeps you from bringing to the table. When your eating raw veg your not eating AS MUCH of something else and you are not going hungry.

Here's to that stalk of tasty fresh celery. Full of low calorie roughage and beneficial chlorophyll

Eat slower as well. It takes the brain about 20 minutes to catch up with the stomach. So if you eat slower you will be "full" with less.

Couple of tips here that I've used to eat more slowly:

* Put the fork down between each bite, chew fully, and then pick the fork up again. Those pauses really add up.
* If you aren't very good with chopsticks, try eating with them .. slows you way down until you learn to use them well. Unfortunately, I'm a pro now, so it doesn't work for me anymore, LOL.
* Drink a full glass of water before the meal, during the meal, and after the meal. This makes you feel fuller.
* Eat soup-based things (make your own soup so you don't get a huge amount of sodium), which fill you up with liquid AND are slower to eat.

Hehe, thanks. Took a little under 4 months ... fighting at 186 right now, which is lower than I've been since high school (what a cliche). I "walk around" at about 200-205.

My wife is somewhat lighter now than in that first picture, but I like her with a little bit of chunkiness:

She didn't do P90X .. she just stopped eating so much.

Trophy wives are supposed to! I'm about to do another round. Funny you should ask .. it begins tomorrow! I am bringing some friends along for the ride this time, though. We're going to do a pool of $500 each, biggest percentage loser takes the pot.

So, how about some recipes? How much of what makes a good combo? What should be avoided?
