The problem with the bill is that they are sneaking in a bunch of other things as usual and calling it the unemployment bill, it's politics as usual

Some Republicans offered to support the unemployment bill if it was paid for with unspent money from last year's massive economic recovery package. Democrats rejected the offer, saying the money was needed for jobs programs. If the money is there for jobs programs, why aren't they spending it?

So don't go blaming the GOP, it's politics as usual

I know 2 people that were put out of construction 2 years ago. Neither of them bothered to do shit, just collect their unemployment and do a few cash jobs on the side. Now they are bitching about what they are gonna do.

Well, fucking serves you right, neither of them bothered even looking for a job during the time they were collecting their gov checks. One guy fished every frickin day and slept to 1pm in the afternoon. I even emailed him some leads on jobs i knew of. His response was, I would only make an extra 150 bucks a week and I would actually have to work.

The system was abused.

Oh and 1 more rant. My dad who is retired thought it would be fun to do the census because it wasnt a full time job. He is a crew leader here, says he works about 25-30 hours a week max. He had a meeting at the office a few weeks ago and according to him you are allowed to claim 3 hours of overtime every week. Surprise surprise, he said every crewleader time sheet he saw at the office was filled out for 43 hours. Said there was NO WAY it took them that long, more people just abusing the system.

While there is abuse in the system for sure, it's not rampant. I know personally of several who have been pounding the pavement every day, filling out apps, dropping off resumes, attending job fairs, etc. and with the unemployment rate here hitting 14%, jobs are getting and have been getting hard to come by.

I don't think everyone should be punished due to a couple who are abusing the system.

I dont think everyone should be punished either. I was simply stating that there is abuse that goes on and I personally think there is a lot more than people want to beleive. Let's face it, getting a check for 2 years is longer than it needs to be. If I had to I would work in a warehouse at night and drive pizzas during the day. Do whatever it takes to keep me and my family going. There are jobs out there, just shitty ones that people are unwilling to work.

Remember that all this shit storm happened after 2006 with the democrats took control of the house and senate. And the unemployment rate has climbed since Obamanation took office and stayed there, while he claimed victory for job gains, when everyone knows they are all government jobs.

They do this for themselves, and come up with stupid bullshit excuses. They WANT unemployed people to get angry with the government, so that they will get voted into that very government. But, as most things no one ever sees the Middle of the road, most people are for or against a program. Why not have a middle road, where the people who can Prove they are pounding the streets, and not being to picky on jobs and pay, then they should keep getting the benifits. This is exactly what the programs was intended to be used for, to get you by, when between jobs, as long as you are looking for a job full time.

As with anything one Bad apple spoils the bunch. I do believe with unemployment, there are Many Many people abusing the system, either not looking for jobs, or working under the table!

You obviously don't understand how unemployment insurance works. Every time you get a check a little is taken out in unemployment insurance. Technically your employer pays it but it's disingenuous to say that the employee doesn't pay for it because it results in lower wages due to payroll constraints. So even though a person might be on it for a year while he is unemployed the truth is he is just getting back some of the money he paid into the system. For most people we are talking about decades of paying in without getting anything back.

As for the people that say everyone is lazy and doesn't want a job wrap your head around this figure.

Oh believe me I know how it unemployment works and where the initial benefit year's moneys come from. I worked many years in the public and private accounting sectors.

It has been my understanding the the extension moneys don't all come from this same pool that has been paid into the State Employment Security's funds. The Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) pays up to 53 additional weeks and is Federal Funded. The state extended benefits (EB) are up to an additional 20 weeks and comes from the states though subsidized by the government and is only available in states which the US Dept of Labor and Industries have determined to have a high rate of unemployment.

I was not referring to the initial unemployment compensation payments which come from funds paid into by employers but rather the weeks of extensions.

I have seen those numbers out there also 1 job for every 6 unemployed, so I see reduction of one sixth of the people on they system, also what about the people that hold a job and taking benifits from people who deserve it.

As usual, this DOES have pro's and cons as people are pointing out on both sides. But the issue is that the GOP is ONCE AGAIN simply USING unemployment benefits extensions as a political game. They will do it again, as much as posisble before the November elections. They WANT angry voters and they want them angry at Washington as if it actually mattered. They want to win seats to become the majority for the SIMPLE purpose of more easily thwarting anything that any democrat wants to do.
