Heck, I would give up freedom of religion if it all religions were banned from anything but the privacy of your own home. At that, all profits should be given up to the State to use for social plans. A church should only be allowed to earn enough money to keep the doors open, it shouldn't ever be a profit machine.

Utter bullshit. The average citizen did not live as comfortably then as they do now. More money is spent now on military than ever and if the US didn't outsource everything for slave wages they would still be on top economically too (although i tend to think they still are in terms of quality of life, etc). People were more intelligent? In what way? Most didn't even finish high school back then. People may have been more civil (maybe?) but a lot of nasty stuff that went on back then just wasn't talked about.

Average citizen lived better back then because the strength of a gold backed dollar. You proved my point that we were at our economic apex in the 50s.
