Live longer & Eat Healthier or Eat Shit & Die Sooner?
I'm watching this thing on Dr. Oz showing how eating a plant based diet over a western meat and fried food diet will not only lower your risk of cancer, diseases and diabetes, but also allow you to live longer.
Not sure if I could live on a "plant" only diet. That means, no meats, cheeses, fish, etc. Live longer... or eat some of my furry friends and die sooner? Tough question

They always compare their vegan diets to the standard American Diet (SAD), of course it comes up top.
Against a clean diet that contains grass fed beef, clean oils, fruits and vegetable, results would be very different. ![]() "plants" only diet, you need vit b12 shots, and supplement vit B6 vit D.. sounds healthy to you? |

I had a friend that was very conscious of what he ate with the aim of it being healthy for him. I eat whatever I want and he would always criticize me for it. He is also a very bad driver, has had his DL suspended TWICE for driving infractions, speeds everywhere he goes, drives distracted and NEVER wears his seatbelt. He's such a contradiction.
I bet there are many more like him that strive to make positive gains in their life one way and foolishly lose it in other ways. The idea is to find a decent balance. Life is best when lived to the fullest. You have to be smart but there is also room for taking calculated chances. Don't be a slave to something that affects the overall quality of your life. The only thing thats constant is time. The minutes of your life keep ticking away so use your time wisely. |

You should eat fruits and veggies daily. You still can eat meat daily (among the other things). However, you should not eat an all meat diet or an all veggie diet. Same with the no carbs, and the rest. You typically do not need to cut out ALL salt, ALL sugar or whatever (unless you have a health condition). But you should be mindful of what you are eating and find the balance. |

All medical and dietary advice changes like the wind. What's good for you now will be terrible for you next week.

I've changed my diet around, mainly to loose weight but now realizing how shitty I was eating and calories I was taking in that were junk and shit food. I've noticed a difference in less than 2 weeks but its definitely a BIG difference in diet not shoving down hundreds of thousands of calories in carbs everyday.
BTW, thats the #1 reason people will gain weight back after they diet. If you are going to diet, it needs to be a life change, unless the purpose it to lose weight for a few weeks then put it back on. I had a friend who only would eat chicken, turkey, fish and veggies and fruits. Lost some 40+ pounds in a few months and was exercising a lot. Then he moved in with 2 other guys and quickly gave up on eating healthy and moved to going out eating fried foods and junk and quickly put back on 50 pounds in a matter of months.

I love fish and a good sirloin steak and hamburgers.
The point is, you should match it with salads, fruit & veg.

Wouldn't surprise me if the month with the most heart attacks was January after loads of people join a gym and suddenly start to exercise.

If you cut stuff out, it's difficult at first, but your appreciation changes, so you learn to enjoy food more than if you just stuff yourself with whatever you feel like.
I cut out dairy for a few years, these days I have a bit, I enjoy a slice of toast with butter like never before. It's not about what we eat or how much we eat, it's how much we appreciate it

Vendot is on the money... as long as you are eating a good amount of vegetables and fruit here and there you will live longer no matter what kind of meats you are eating... again no vegans in their 70's...

A few months back I had been having an issue with high blood pressure since the tail end of last year. In Jan, I went to the DR's to have blood work done. Around that same time, I decided it was time to change my diet. So I started reading. I picked up a few different books and completely changed my diet. I cut the daily Diet Coke's in half (sodium). My blood pressure dropped back into the norm with two weeks. Additionally, all of my stomach problems disappeared. I had been taking Prilosec OTC on and off for years. I have not had to take it since. I cut out almost all of the processed frozen dinners and meals and instead started cooking fresh everything. I also started cooking almost every meal. When I did eat something ready to go, it was something like Veg Beef soup or something still remotely healthy. In 6 weeks between DR's visits I dropped 12 lbs. without doing anything other than a diet/lifestyle change. So no exercise, just diet. What was funny was, I was eating and drinking 2-3 times more than I did previously in VOLUME of food/liquid. Yet I was still losing weight. I picked up another decent book I have enjoyed cooking meals from, and also added in smoothies. There is no way in hell I would ever get Omega3 or fruits/veggies in my diet the way recommended. I do not like fish, nor fruits. This way, with two smoothies per day, I have now managed to get in the daily allotment of fruits and veggies. Additionally, with the smoothies (while I do not care for them in general) they help to keep you feeling full. Something to do with soluble and insoluble fiber. It slows down your digestion or helps keep you full. Which becomes helpful during the middle of the morning, and afternoon when I used to always snack on complete shit and was never feeling full. I still do slide in an occasional sugary treat now and then. But not on a daily basis. I also eat out once a week with the GF at a decent restaurant which I am sure is a 1200-1500 calorie undertaking. However, I am still losing around 2 lbs a week. In the past two weeks, I have also added in some light walking and weight training to tighten things up. You start noticing a bit of pep in your step, and what not. I have dropped two pant sized in Feb-April just by change in diet. I do not drink booze even on the weekends and haven't for years, nor eat a lot of sugary treats. I do not even keep sugary shit in the house. If I want it, I have to make a special trip. Even then, I do not buy a package. I buy one at a time. I still have a ways to go before I am happy. But stick with it BROhem. ![]() |

Every vegan I have met, is malnourished and unhealthy. I have also had 3 roommates, and girlfriend that ate "healthy" and 10 years later they are skinny, weak, gaunt hunchbacks.
3 cheers for chocolate cake and burgers.

Veganism isn't something I could or would want to do. I am a "pescatarian", for the last 3 years now and I have never felt better. For the record, I'm 5' 11", 175 and am much stronger than most meat eaters that I know.

![]() I just got on medication for high blood pressure and been on medication for acid reflux. I would notice if I didnt take my Nexium by mid morning, I would start feeling the pain, but for the past few days its been ok. yesterday I didnt take it until in the evening. I only drink diet coke if its with rum, rather than a 2 liter every other day. Water + lemon = happiness for me. If I want to stay in shape and not be the fat guy of the group, then I need to make LIFE long changes, not just temporary ones. Once I get down to my target weight and body fat, then I'll go back to maybe eating more carbs, but until then, its a lot of cardio, low carbs and lots of protein and water
