why are the GFY global warming alarmists such debbie downers?

do they not keep up with the facts? do they want instant change? it seems they want to come here and bitch at us when in reality the changes are required elsewhere and more importantly, are in fact happening.

china and USA coming together to meet the 2050 2 degree celsius goal

Rare optimism ahead of climate talks in Lima

Pledges by Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama earlier this month to limit their emissions after 2020 sent a powerful signal that a global deal could be possible next year. The two countries, which produce about 40 percent of all global emissions, long have been adversaries in the U.N. climate talks.

Quote:
The United States can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050, using existing or near-commercial technologies, according to researchers with the Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project. The study analyzed scenarios with four types of decarbonized electricity: renewable energy, nuclear energy, fossil fuel with carbon capture and storage, and a mixed case. The scenarios achieved reductions of 83 percent below 2005 levels and 80 percent below 1990 levels, according to the study, which was released ahead of next month?s climate talks in Lima, Peru, and negotiations in Paris in December 2015. The energy efficiency of buildings, transportation, and industry would need to increase through the use of smart materials and energy-efficient designs, and vehicles will need to be fueled with electricity generated from wind, solar, or nuclear, as opposed to coal, the researchers said. They project the net costs would be on the order of 1 percent of gross domestic product per year. The 80-percent reduction by 2050 is a long-standing goal of the Obama administration, in line with the global commitment to limit global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius. ?One important conclusion is that investment opportunities in clean technologies will arise during the natural rollover and replacement of infrastructure,? said lead author Jim Williams. ?The plan calls for non-disruptive, sustained infrastructure transitions that can deeply decarbonize the U.S. by 2050, and enhance its competitive position in the process.?

there's lies, theres damn lies, & theres global warming.

i dont even deny the earth is warming, & that humans are the cause. The big lie is that humans will no longer have a habitable place to live. Humans been alive for 50,000 years as homo sapien & got through far worse climates, like the ice ages, & survived. & our ancestors had none of the knowledge or technology we enjoy today.

duh.

fill me in, let me know what you are talking about because you won't find one single post, comment, look on my face, morse code, smoke signal, or carrier pigeon that ever claims what you are alluding to.

Why is it every conservative rushes here to post about every little thing that that supports their beliefs while demanding attention from those whom disagree. Meanwhile you guys always stick your heads in the sand denying everything you don't want to hear.

thanks for proofing me that you global warming alarmists are complete debbie downers. even in a thread filled with optimism and hope about cleaning up the industrialized world over the next 35 years you still cling to the politicized argument of the topic.

keep getting in the way! well done.

Of course we'll survive, but thats not what its really about. The short-term cost of global warming will be increased floods, worsening storms, more drought, hotter & longer heat waves, etc making food and drinking water more scares and more expensive, not to mention cost of health care. Some places will be hit with so much damage that they may not be able to afford to recover from the damage, etc.

In other words, doing nothing about Global warming could prove to be very, very expensive.

Nope they do not. They are still parroting talking points based on 15 year old computer models that are completely wrong.

And also...any scientist who questions the whole thing is instantly not credible. ONLY the scientists (on the green energy payroll for their "studies") who agree with the alarmists are to be believed and have any credibility.

Any new facts and new data is quickly dismissed as being "debunked". And the debunking is always from an alarmist slanted website.

It's like watching folks wearing blinders while pointing at people with open minds and yelling: "They are wearing blinders, not me".

You are only posting this topic because you are attempting to discredit people you disagree with. Not like you would willingly post articles supporting what you disagree with.

Ie you are just arguing the right wing talking points, being the only groups whom keep spewing anti global warming are big oil and republicans.

crockett, look, this isn't the 3rd grade so you will need to at least read some of the words in this thread to participate.

just spewing your anti-right wing agenda in spite isn't a good look for you. Again, if you were ever serious about your whining alarmist global warming diatribes you've banged out for us all, then you would know what is going in the world re: curbing green house gases and you would comment on that,.

but you are not, you just want to make it a political fight, which is fine, your comments in this thread just proofs that.

All I ever see on TV are people saying that it's "real" and the "science is settled".

So nope, you are wrong (again). .

My very independent thought comes from looking at the Earth's history of climate change and the fact that nature makes changes to accommodate things like a tiny percentage of rise in CO2 that man creates (statistically speaking that is).

Also the fact that all of the stuff YOU are parroting is coming from computer models using 15 year old data that is no longer relevant and has been found to be wrong.

G.I.G.O. (garbage in, garbage out).

But you don't care crockett. This is all about politics to your small mind. You are the target of the Green Energy billionaires.
You will believe no matter what.

Hell, if every scientist on the face of the Earth came out tomorrow and said it was a mistake...you would STILL be spinning the story and using anything you could find as "proof".

You don't question anything you are told. Just like a good little zombie.

Again, you didn't read anything. I didn't comment on anything. I just posted links to a scientific magazine. But hey - don't hurt yourself trying to read, or understand, or think. You clearly let other people do the thinking for you. All you do is react, without thinking.

And again, you make all kinds of assumptions about me that are wrong. You don't know me so stop trying to talk for me. I'm actually an optimist. The earth is in trouble, but it's fucking cool that we know its in trouble. You and other right wing asshats can push science and facts away all you want and keep your heads in the sand, but your denial won't protect you for very long. Science will though. So don't you worry, ok little man? Alright.

I disagree. Both want to have fun, it's just that the right keeps coming up with excuses not to pay the bar tab.

again, I loaded this thread with optimistic news about curbing global pollution and curbing green house gases which you didn't even know about, because you actually don't give a shit, and can't even respond directly to, again because you actually do not give a shit. If you want to think I'm an idiot for proofing that in this thread, that's cool.

Dyna, there have been many talks at UN events on climate and setting up deadlines. However I t doesn't matter what goes on at the UN if our own govt doesn't get behind it. We can have people saying all kinds of things at the UN, but it doesn't mean shit if the govt here in the states doesn't back it up.

Do you really think congressmen from states who benifit from oil or coal are going to opt to follow some UN mandate? No they are gonna run to fox news and yell at the top of their lungs that the UN is trying g to take over America..

mr prince, we dont need to warm the world to make food & water more scarce. overpopulation is doing that regardless of climate.

as far as damaging storms, they been around for 4 billion years & they are not going away cause of a carbon tax. on a daily basis the sun has far greater impact on weather than humans can ever dream.

will new orleans no longer exist? maybe. but thats more of a darwin awards matter, AKA the stupidity of owning a home in an uninhabitable environment.

the only thing humans need to worry about are volcanos, asteroids, & solar storms. Should the ice caps totally melt, humans will be fine. i promise.

one detail i may add to this thread is that the scientific community agreeing on something does not mean they are right. Read the history of the scientists whom made ginormous breakthroughs in science & you will see the scientific community did not immediately embrace the controversial new theorems posited by gallileo, newton, einstein. Shit, einstein never got the nobel for relativity...why??? in these cases the innovators had to fight a community that wanted to keep saying the earth is not round, there is no gravity, & the earth is the center of the universe by which all other celestial bodies circle.

not to mention a geological record of climate change far in excess of magnitude than anything happening today. The sahara desert was created in about 40 years. there were no tailpipes to blame back then. But if a liberal caveman was around, im sure they woulda blamed camel farts on it & we need to curb camel farts.

Joshua G, you are spot on.

But don't expect the alarmists to listen. They have closed minds and only believe what they are told by the politicians who pretend to be liberal...what to believe.

I just don't see why you can't even give Obama credit on this. I mean this is the very first time since the US walked away from Kyoto that both the USA and China have agreed, this meeting next month will pave the way for the global accord in december 2015.

also, times are changing, have you followed what nrg ceo Crane said recently?

well, here you go:

Quote:
NRG, which built a leading electricity business from coal and other conventional power plants, is aiming to reduce its carbon emissions 50 percent by 2030 and 90 percent by 2050, the company said on Thursday.

David Crane, the company’s chief executive, made the announcement at a ceremony breaking ground for the company’s new headquarters in Princeton, N.J., conceived as a green-energy showcase that will open in 2016.

“The power industry is the biggest part of the problem of greenhouse gas emissions, but it has the potential to be an even bigger part of the solution,” Mr. Crane said in an interview before the announcement.

Businesses like Coca-Cola, Google and Walmart are increasingly looking to buy or produce more green energy as a way of reducing their carbon footprints, creating a potentially lucrative market for companies like NRG. This week, for instance, Ikea announced it had bought a second wind farm in the United States, part of its goal of, by 2020, producing as much renewable energy as the company consumes globally.

“We are working with these companies on putting solar panels all over their facilities, and it’s helpful for them to know that we’re heading in the right direction,” Mr. Crane said.
btw, nrg puts out millions of metric tons of greenhouse gases every year and is, well, I hope you know who nrg is.

Of course the Sun (and the moon) impact weather, and those are things we can do nothing about. But CO2 and Methane affect the weather too, and smoke and soot affect the air you breathe, and these are some things you CAN do something about.

The condemnation of Galileo by the Roman Catholic church in the 1600's might have had something to do with it.

Mark, I thought this discussion was (once again) about the gas that we exhale every time we breath and that plants need to survive: CO2

Now you are calling CO2 "pollution" and somehow tying it in with clean water?
That's the reason that people like you drive other people AWAY from your argument when you don't base it on reality.

And by the way...the MAIN thing that is leading to people (poor people anyway) having their "lives more miserable" is the fact that the govt. is deliberately making energy prices more expensive.
And that in turn makes EVERYTHING more expensive...and as usual, hurts the poor the most.

Follow the money... If there wasn't billions (trillions?) on the line this would be a non issue

The large established industries back in the day at the time fought extremely hard to keep lead (leaded gasoline etc) in everything too even though that was poison...

Not too many people have made their billions off their business profiting from being pro global warming vs all the businesses that have fighting it and the regulations that go with it.

The big question is why do conservatives want SOOOO badly not to believe what scientists say about the plight of our planet? I'll bet is has something to do with money and their precious "job creators" in some way.

What is it about leaning right politically that makes them automatically fall in line with the consensus that scientist don't know what they're talking about? Have you listened to some of these Republican morons in our house and senate? Most of them don't sound qualified to talk about how to put pants on. They hit the same talking points, such as "Well I'm no scientist so I'm not qualified to talk about it" -- which is stupid on so many levels I don't even know where to start with it.

Not being concerned about it means you're sticking your head in the sand. I have a daughter, and I'd like for her to not have to defend her desert fortress from marauding water bandits when she's 25.

bronco it's not about that.

I'm not a "conservative". I just have a thinking mind.

And when I see that historically the Earth's climate has changed throughout history when there was no man-made anything...and that alarmist's are not even willing to TALK about that, it makes me very, very skeptical.

Also, as was pointed out (and ignored) earlier in this thread...it wasn't that long ago in history (talking in terms of the BIG picture) that the Sahara desert was a lush plain with fields of green. The climate changed (and there was NO manmade CO2) and it turned to desert in a space of 40 years according to scientists.

You also said that people who are deniers don't listen to scientists.
But that's not true either.

Alarmists ONLY listen to scientists whose studies are funded by Green Energy groups making billions of dollars.

When NEW science and NEW data are brought up...it is ignored or ridiculed (only alarmists scientists are "good")

This kind of blind "belief" in something reminds me of religion.

And I don't like the fact that food, clothing, building materials, and basically EVERYTHING in life is more expensive because the U.S. federal govt. is deliberately making energy cost more in an attempt to make "green energy" competitive in the market place.

That hurts poor families who are trying to get by. It's a tax on the poor...that is NOT necessary.

As a concerned father, are not you optimistic about the news on this?

LOok, here;s the other thing and I've said it many times- global alarmists are whining at the wrong group, it's not gfyers that need to sort out their carbon footprints, it big business, entire industries around the globe. I provided evidence here that that is happening. not one global alarmist could acknowledge that. why not?

That's the question.

And I know the answer- because they actually do not care. Just like the repub dudes you mention, they actually don't care, that's why they make it talking points. When NRG CEO David Crane picks up the phone and calls his heavy hitters inside the gateway, they will do what he asks. And I've shown above the direction NRG has committed to over the next 35 years. Politicians will get in line with big business.

etc...

the unknown is we don't know how much green house gases it takes till the atmosphere gets fucked. There is a lot of CO2 stored in ice caps, so when CO2 increases, it has a compounding effect melting ice releasing more CO2 that was frozen. Ice is also white which keeps the earth cooler then dark melted water.

So we could be fine... or not. But I'd believe the scientists over the monied interests

I love how someone who has no scientific background can just say "I look at x data and see no blah blah." Those crazy science people and their silly-ass science.

I gave you and dipshitprincess plenty of opportunity to answer the Op question and proof me wrong. INstead, you proofed me right and never answered the question.

no biggie, but let's all stop pretending the gfy global warming alarmists actually do anything to help curb pollution. Or actually care. ********** will come here all the time and tell us all how WE need to change our lives because of all the carbon while he buys new carS and house= 1000s of metric tons of carbon dumped on the rest of us, perhaps that's why he feels so needy about getting the rest of us to clean up his shit.

and btw, the only thing I disagree with you about re: pollution is how you choose to keep the debate about whether or not the science is valid instead of making it about actually cleaning up pollution.
