Lake Mead water levels lowest level since 1930's.
Lake Mead lowest level since Hoover Dam was built in the 1930's The slide show is worth viewing. Kind of scary when you think about the tremendous volume of water that's no longer there.
![]() Water level in Lake Mead, largest reservoir in the US, drops 150 feet in 14 years . |

As an offtopic. The Hoover Dam is a real great building. I've made this picture when was traveling to Vegas:

Why would you even come here? You hate Americans. Also, we don't want you here. Stick to photographing things in your own 3rd world country such as Government Food assistance lines and abandoned nuclear missile silos.

Why not? As a citizen of this planet I can travel anywhere I want.
Where did I say I hate them? Also which ones? Native Americans or immigrants from Europe, Africa and Asia that live there? Be more specific with your silly statements please. Who are "we", clown? ![]() My country has nothing to do with 3rd-world. Russia is the only country which can send your astronauts to the outer space (yours can't). Interestin' slideshow. Looks rather severe.
And yet, we just went through one of the worst winters for precipitation we've had in many years. How long before Obama gets the notion to twin the oil pipelines and use one to run water from the Great Lakes to the midwest? ![]() It's gonna take a lot of Mr. Clean to scrub out that 'bathtub ring'. |

It's like that from Texas to Cali in the southern states..
This was Lake Buchanan in Texas. Where I was at in the first picture should of been completely under water. That's a boat ramp in front of me.. Keep in mind this wasn't a natural lake as it's on the Colorado River and was made by a dam. I guess there isn't enough water to keep it filled anymore. ![]() The sign says no boats left unattended.. I don't think there have been boats here in a long long time. I'm bet the people whom own those houses are not enjoying the water front property.. ![]() Canyon Lake which was further south and closer to Austin was very bad as well. There was only a single boat ramp on the entire lake which was still in water and able to launch boats. There were tons of boat storage businesses whom had gone out of business because no one was storing their boats for week end get a ways at the lake. |

You are welcome to build a pipeline but we may charge you $10 a gallon at the 'wellhead'. The Colorado River is the source of Lake Mead. And Lake Mead is a man-made lake, not natural.
When I go to Laughlin, the river is full up to it's banks. Not drying up. But with California siphoning off the main percentage of the water that is allocated to Lake Mead and Las Vegas having a huge poplulation full of homes with yards that must be watered every day (it's a desert here)...something has to give. Too many people in Cali and Vegas. |

yep, I used to live in the foothills of South Carolina and the biggest lake there is Lake Hartwell. Also man-made.
Except you can't eat the fish there and it's not the best place to swim...it was built to support the nuclear plant there. ![]() Lake Mead on the other hand, was built with the dam. And as I understand it...the water that would normally be diverted from the Colorado River to Lake Mead has been diverted instead to take care of California. I believe there is some kind of tri-state committee of Nev, Cali, and Arizona that makes that decision? |

Robbie, that water in lake mead is colorado river water, 7 states and mexico have rights to that water from the beginning.
The Colorado River Compact is a 1922 agreement among seven U.S. states in the basin of the Colorado River in the American Southwest governing the allocation of the water rights to the river's water among the parties of the interstate compact. The agreement was signed at a meeting at Bishop's Lodge, near Santa Fe, New Mexico, by representatives of the seven states the Colorado river and its tributaries pass through on the way to Mexico. ![]() Colorado River Compact - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

Back when that was hammered out...I don't think the entire state of Nevada had the population of Las Vegas. So they didn't see the need to allocate much water. |

If you've never been to lake meade before, it's really worth checking out. A few years ago I was visiting friends in Las Vegas and we went to the Hoover Damn first (Amazing!), and then later that day we went boating and swimming in the lake. The thing that hit me the most were the crazy high red cliffs. I felt like I was swimming on mars.

Yes, it's absolutely beautiful. Completely man-made (even that scenery because those vivid colors are revealed from where the place was dynamited to create the lake and the dam uncovering all those beautiful layers).
The first time I was there was Jan. of 2000. And I drove over the dam coming into Vegas at night. As I looked around myself I kept thinking "This place was built by extra-terrestrials" lol Nothing like it can even BE built now because of ecological concerns. blah-blah-blah. But it's definitely one of the man-made wonders of the world. |

WTF? It says that Lake Mead's water level is affecting the ability of the Dam to generate electricity. Uhmmm...HELLO! The Hoover Dam generates electricity from damming up the Colorado River NOT Lake Mead. Lake Mead is a man-made lake that is a byproduct of The Hoover Dam. It's used for water in Vegas and recreation. Not to "generate electricity" like that article says. lol |

There is a lot of people living around there, and they need water. They will need to get it from somewhere else. Lake Mead is artificial source of water too, Nevada is desert, originally, especially around there.

I was watching the local news at noon here today in Vegas.
They did a story on how Lake Mead is getting lower and that the allocation for Nevada from the Colorado River is about to be cut even more. They said that could very well lead to water shortages here by 2017. Serious stuff huh? Then they suddenly smiled and announced the headlining acts for this year's "Life Is Beautiful" music festival in Downtown Vegas! lol "We are running out of water...but here's the good news! We're bringing in lots more tourists!" lol |
