You couldn't be more wrong.

Gaming is one of the biggest portions of traffic for youtube now. Name one channel that got removed because their gaming footage wasnt educational or informative...

Pewdiepie was gargantuan well before south park highlighted him. Its because he was already incredibly famous that he was involved with south park. Pewdiepie has broken many youtube records and continues to kill it. There is something very big and very smart going on behind the scenes that made pewdie as big as he is. I have my ideas but still may never know what tactics lead to his fame.

99% of gamer developers encourage the use of their games in Youtube and Twitch as it only increases their sales. People watch these videos generally if they have said game or are interested in getting said game. Or the video ends up sparking their interest.

You guys might be highly underestimating how much gaming videos and how much of youtube is gaming videos. Lets not even mention twitch and it being... what the 3rd or 4th highest bandwidth usage across the net. Gaming is huge and People may wonder"Why the fuck does someone sit there and watch someone else play a game?" ... well... does that same person watch football or basketball or any other sport?

I'm trying to find it, but I swear I'm sure I read an article recently saying that Youtube was going to pull ads on videos of people just playing video games, except for things like reviews, cheats, glitches, walkthroughs, etc. but if it didn't add value, no money.
I might be wrong, though, and wouldn't think that just adding commentary to playing a game online would be adding value in most cases..

Well as far as I know that would never happen anytime soon as people are encouraged by youtube to make gaming videos. Programs search gamers out to partner them to do these very videos. That was something that was in play about... 6 years ago. But, gaming blew up.

There are a lot of people in this thread giving reasons to fail, or not try. The one thing I learned is negative thinkers usually end up right. As far as they're concerned.

We all know that getting into a well selling niche, and joining all the dots, doesn't guarantee success. It needs the content to be a little bit better than the rest. This guy has that little bit extra.

Personally I have no clue why because he doesn't appeal to me. With 39,433,076 subscribers and 10,160,585,204 views, I'm wrong.

The subject matter isn't what will attract viewers and keep them watching. It's needs that little bit of magic and an attitude that says "Yes I can"

Not, excuses for not trying.

I was on my way to success, but Nintendo already shut that down with 2 copyright claims..

(I can still have the video up, but Nintendo has control of ads on it apparently..)

I was able to use this one by changing the music, though

Because unlike in porn, YouTube tests for duplicate content and takes it down.

Exactly. YouTube should be a platform to help you build your "brand" and what kind of brand building would you be doing without your own website, and twitter account?

Hopefully not all game companies are like Nintendo.. lol

So.. What if I put a few videos up a day for no reason, have some random high comments to them, create a channel and a blog and maybe go in and make an animated character w Adobe that moves and talks with my voice and a couple key frame shortcuts. Would that maybe make some money? Recording replay files on emulators on games that I play anyways then turning them into AVIs later is pretty easy to do..

Lots of PRANK videos (easy to make) get lots of views on Youtube but... the non-ad monetization might be hard to set up. See https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-pr...ork-video.html

It's not like you can sell ebooks on how NOT to get people to pull a gun on you when you're pranking them...

There are always people looking for excuses for failure.

Some here, over the 15 years I've been here, think if they only knew what would be the right nche, app, process or next best thing. They would nail it.

It's not what you do it's how you do it that counts.

Nintendo is a company that throws out claims for their music. I think its mainly only the mario music... Ive noticed this too but its not the most common when dealing with in game music. It does fall under copyright.

I got an instant email when I submitted it and got the copyright notice. We need something like that in the adult industry instead of waiting on ignored DMCAs..

So then what do the big gamers like PewdiePie and the others do? They play all the Nintendo games with volume on.

I do know that you can get around the auto audio copyright thing a lot of the time by going into an editor and changing the pitch slightly either +1 or -1 and keep trying until you get around the filter. If he's playing with his mic picking up the audio and not from the computer itself, it might have the same effect? I'm not sure exactly, though, I don't watch PewDiePie..
Same can be done with visual copywritten material by mirroring the video horizontally.
That doesn't prevent those companies from manually sending out copyright notices, though.

As far as I know, The sound searching algo combats the tone or pitch change. When the claims comes through you have multiple options. YOu can accept it. You can push it back and say fair use, which can be won, or you premeditate it and get alternate audio before releasing it.

Colmike... I started off in this thread saying you couldnt be more wrong... I was wrong in saying that. let me rephrase that. You've been right about everything you've said... except it would seem that your knowledge of the system is about 5 or 6 years old. Almost all point you make were at one time in play, but its much more organized and tolerant of these issues you bring up.

Yea that's definitely not happening. The only reason microsoft bought Minecraft was its popularity. It's popularity is due to all the people playing it online and enticing others to buy and play it.

Minecraft is one of the biggest success stories when it comes to direct correlation of youtube videos to sales.

Another similar story would be of DayZ... It was a mod that some devloper made for an already existing war simulator. Arma. Arma had been around for years but no one really knew about the game... like it was literally nothing. For a couple years. Then when people started making videos about the modded version that came out years after Arma's initial release, It went viral. In both the youtube videos and the sales of this game. Overnight Arma went from a unknown military simulator to a title that no serious gamer went without.

Wouldn't have happened without the youtube gaming community.

Since were talking about Youtube videos I'll leave my latest here. My first attempt at Speed Art. I am growing more interested in this and may be making more. The rest of my videos are gaming related. Makes me money but I do it mainly for fun. Once in awhile I get a big video. But, most videos only get a couple hundred views.
