Are you smart enough to be a cop?

Holy shit the bar is low.

"Do you have what it takes to protect and serve? Most US police academies have a written entrance exam that tests verbal, mathematical, and reasoning abilities. As there is no national or standardized police exam, this quiz consists of a compilation of sample police test questions"

"The questions come from various police departments across the country, from county sheriff departments to the US Capitol police department. Therefore, this quiz does not represent an actual police test. Rather, it gives a sense of the kinds of questions that may be asked on an actual police exam"

The bar is low or they cherry picked easier questions from random tests all over the country that seem low?

I was under the impression that you had to have a college degree to be a police officer...

"Police officer education requirements range from a high school diploma to a college degree. The minimum requirement is usually a high school diploma, although an increasing number of police departments require applicants to complete at least one or two years of college coursework or have an associate?s degree. A bachelor?s degree is the minimum requirement for federal police jobs. In urban police departments and federal agencies, knowing how to speak a foreign language is considered a plus."

a college degree has never been a requirement for cops, including federal police.

I always said if you required at least a Bachelor's degree to even be considered, it would cut down on almost all of the bullshit we're experiencing. You need at least a Master's degree to even fill out an FBI application.

The more work someone puts into gaining a position, the more respect they'll have for it. Easy come, easy go.

Some departments city and county require an associates or a certain amount of credits. To be a supervisor, they make it a 4 year. The standards may seem low because they have a quota of minorities to hire and can't because some don't have college and just have a high school diploma. The academy just gets you certified in the state to be a cop. Then you have training for months where they wash you out if you don't hack it. And they send you to training throughout your career to help you with your job. A lot of agencies have a culture, it all depends where.

My dad was a cop in the Bronx in the 80s. Worst of the worst of humanity. They out you there to wash you out and if you survived you went to a different pricinct.

I'd go with the second.. I'm betting they cherry picked the really dumb questions. I'm sure it's likely not hard to pass any of their tests if you have just a bit of common sense, however why do they not have strict psychological testing prior to being hired as well as at the very least once a year after they are hired..

Considering the power a cop can have over someone else, they really do need to be put under the microscope often and have their service records reviewed by non officers as a routine part of the job.

They should also d away with internal affairs and have all internal investigations handled by a equally mixed group of police officers and civilians.

My favorite part is the Majority needs an 85% or higher on average to pass but the minority needs only a 70% or higher.

Question 4 Did NOT have the correct answer provided.

4. A police officer was patrolling a busy street when she witnessed bricks falling from a building. A crowd of people began to accumulate near the building where the bricks were falling. What should the officer?s first action be?

The correct answer should have been stop fucking about with bricks in the street and come make me a sandwich! NOW!

I agree with the rest of your statement, but I believe this is incorrect. My cousin is a fed, and to the best of my knowledge he just has a college degree and previous experience as a cop. Though, they invited him to apply after he worked on a local task force with them.

It's funny that the ones complaining about so.called entrance exams, or stating the bar is low; are the ones who probably wished they could hack it. Unless you've tried it then you having nothing to stand on. And when you look like roadkill warmed up you have a moot point.

That is not even funny. Officially legalized racism towards white people. Unbelievable.
They try to brainwash people into being anti racist, yet they are not only racist towards white people, but also makes a law to be racist against them. That is on another level.

Seriously, how can any libtard/guilter not understand that US is racist towards whites the most as it is even officially legalized.

This is exam isn't the only hurdle to getting a police job. It depends heavily on where you want to work. If you are willing to work in a big city like Los Angeles where they always need cops you likely will only have to pass this exam in order to qualify for the job. If you want to be a cop in a smaller town it is a much more competitive situation.

I live in a pretty small town. They will only hire cops that either have degrees or were reserves in this city for a number of years so they know a lot about the person and who they are. When an opening comes up they might get 100 applications for it and they will only interview a handful of those people.

It is true that cops with degrees have less issues. There was a study done in Florida a little while back that showed cops bachelor's degrees accounted for only 11% of all the public complaints. The problem is that most cops start out in the $20-$25 per hour range (in some cities less than that) so a lot of people who are going to go to college aren't interested in putting in 4 years to get a criminal justice or other similar degree to make $20 and hour and risk getting shot or sued. They might as well learn some other trade and make as much or more without any of the hassle.

I was reading somewhere (or heard it) that they don't want cops to be too smart when they hire them.

This statement is absolutely irrelevant without knowing what percentage of cops had bachelors degrees.
Meaning - if 11% of cops had bachelors degrees that means they are the same as non bachelors

True. Without knowing how many of the officers have degrees Vs. don't have degrees it is hard to say for sure if this is proof or not. That same study did say the findings found that those with degrees, "performed on par with officers who had 10 years? additional experience." To me that is a good thing. Typically the more experience you get the better you do your job. That doesn't mean they still can't be bad cops, but it could mean they are more suited for the job.

Basically if you're a straight white male with college or if they like you, then you're in. If you're a woman or man of color, or can speak Spanish then you're catered too. You can be a Spanish speaker with a GED or have minor misdemeanors and be hired. White male one fuck up, you're disqualified. Some minoriries can fail field training repeatedly and eventually slide through. Straight white male, you're done.

Obviously for some reason I hit a nerve with my post. When I saw this test my first thought was holy shit who couldn't pass this, the dumbing down of America strikes again.

Telling me I'm too stupid to pass the test and I look like a dead animal on the side of the road? lol, pretty funny.

Indeed may have been cherry picked in order to get more viral potential. Got 100 pct. but since I know these tests are usually very extensive this may or may also not be entirely representative. What's a bit more alarming is that the average reader's score is 69 pct.

On the other hand if the purpose of this entry test is to try out if somebody doesn't lack common sense, I reckon it may work just fine.

Now FBI could be more fun, those tests I'd like to try.
