Although grand juries and trial juries are both made up of average people who were called for jury duty, they serve very different purposes. A grand jury determines whether charges should be brought against a suspect, while trial juries give a decision about whose facts they believe in the trial itself.

The entire purpose of a Grand Jury is to "determine" if charges should be brought. It doesn't mean they have a case. If they had a case they wouldn't "have" to use a grand jury. They would instead make the charges and take it to criminal court. (ie they don't have a case, they just want it to be a case)



Regardless, if they did something wrong we should find out, but I suspect this is just Trump trying to get payback..

A probe started but not the threat of grand jury nor FBI investigation. The FBI was not investigating until recently.. This screams very much of Trump pushing the DOJ to further investigate. The DOJ then tells the FBI to look into it..

You don't know how it works obviously. A investigation begins and if there is enough evidence for a felony offense, then and ONLY then does it go to the grand jury. Investigators and prosecutors don't "consult" grand juries with every case they have to determine who's charged. They consult with them before they bare the expense of a costly trial for felony offenses.

Also, pretty much everywhere in the US there is generally a 3-6 month backlog of cases to be presented to the grand jury. So it's safe to assume this case was made 3-6 months ago. They've just been waiting their turn. Given the facts presented it's pretty obvious what occurred. The only question now is will his fellow politicians help him and her out in some way to get them out of trouble or throw him under the bus like they did during the election?

Maybe. we will see if there is anything to it one way or another. This info was out there before the election BTW, I read about this before Hillary won the nomination. At that time there was nothing more than hearsay which is all we've seen so far..to date. Everything is all based on someone making a complaint..

I think it is political, as in, if Clinton had been elected Sanders may have been able to pull strings and force her to soft peddle the investigation.

The whole thing started before Trump, and Trump couldn't care less about it.

This is a clear case of "is there evidence of a crime" or is it a civil matter. In a civil case, no one would press it because essentially there is no plaintiff.

The grand jury is in place because of the very public nature of the defendant. The prosecutor knows his ass is on the line unless the case is airtight and he wins. Sanders will come after them full force with the political witch hunt accusation, though that is clearly absolute bullshit.

Actually the Sanders family appears to be unified in its philosophy:
