Lost 40K traffic google

Hi,

Every year we loose some traffic because of problems with advertisers on our site(s) (most through traffic "partners")

Last week (28 of September) again 40K gone. Google informed you with webmastertools that your site is blocked but no info about the advertiser who create the problem. Investigate witch network create the problem, remove the adnetwork and send review to google. In just a few hours the site is back in google. At that point you just can hope you get all traffic back.

But now we see some extra "rules" from google and i see this kind of banners everywhere. Most of the time this banners are directly from the adnetwork with random links.

Google is talking about this kind of banners :

and called them misleading.

https://support.google.com/webmaster.../6350487?hl=en
https://security.googleblog.com/2016...d-buttons.html

I know advertisers are looking for highest CTR and this kind of banners works great. Specially in CPM networks its not about the product what you sell but get most traffic based on ctr.

My question(s) are :
  1. Is google checking the "banner" or the link. Because google can read banner.
  2. Any other webmaster had big traffic drop last week?
  3. Why google can detect this and no adnetwork is doing the same to protect the webmasters (who are partners) from this kind of "Social Engineering" Most of the time if you contact the advertising company they inform you with. We found the advertiser and remove them, thanks for the info.
  4. The term and conditions of the adnetwork protect the "company". Advertiser loose probably there money but what about the publisher ? What action is taken against this advertiser?
  5. Which adnetwork in the market take care about this kind of problems and in your opinion is the most advanced to check advertisers in real time.

We only have around 140K visitors per day so not a big player. Probably the big traffic portals get a compensation from the adnetwork but we prefer to work with networks that also take care about the publisher.

Thanks

I lost about 20% of traffic to one of my blogs.

That is tough to make up.

I'm not sure what google can read. I doubt it's the banner though, meaning the image of it. It probably detects the link associated with it and recognizes that it is a 'download' or install of some type.

I don't push ad networks so i can't tell you how they work in regards to what you just wrote but I will say this:

Ad networks care only about making money - as do most people online - and will do anything they can GET AWAY WITH. It will have to be up to you to monitor everything on your site and decide if it's worth the hassle or the risk to your google traffic.

Google is all over the place right now with drastic changes (look at mozcast.com for example). I wouldn't worry to much yet until things start to settle down.

Thanks will check that. Think is more the job of the adnetwork to use this kind of solution. In my opinion Google send there costumers to you/us and want that we treat en entertain them good. As we send our costumers to the network we "hope" they do the same.

Thanks for the info. I do think google can "read" banners without problem but yes probably the link(s) behind are the ones that create the problem(s). Most adnetworks run themselves this kind of banners and have a rotation of links behind it. With some solution its probably easy to detect (as google does) but what adnetwork takes care about this?

As google starts to mention mislead I wonder how much % of the ads must be removed. As example lets pretend i have banners of RedBull, there slogan is It give your wings One guy drinks for 5 years Redbull and still don´t have wings. Who is going to be suit ? Me because he clicked on my Banner or the company Redbull ?

If tons of sites use the same banner with the same size, meta tags et cetera, google can detect them easily.

yes it can get expensive. Depends on frequency of testing/ how many geos to test for / platform

And nothing is 100% fool proof. If there are many redirects in the same geo/ platform then it goes undetected.

Using Konrad's PPC program and paying $5 per K for USA traffic if anyone wants to test it.

Google is not talking about banners. Its about the links.
Sometimes advertisers want a user to install a "updated flashplayer" ,
wich is not the player but a trojan horse or keyloggers or bot shit.

A social engineering attack happens when either:

The content pretends to act, or looks and feels, like a trusted entity —
like a browser, operating system, bank, or government.

The content tries to trick you into doing something you’d only do for a

Hi,

Doing some test

1. premium site (50K traffic) with 2 adnetworks and they use this kind of banners with random links.
2. Premium site (27K traffic) with own "similar " banner that goes to affiliate program that offers Download movies or watch streaming.

Lets see what Mr. Google does

It actually is about the banners, not just the links and sites. They announced the crackdown several months ago, but it's only coming in effect lately.

Download/Play banners are one of the oldest tricks to get mega CTR and they worked wonders on carrier billing offers not so long ago. Now this era is coming to an end.

I saw 2 ad networks ban download/play banners this week, one of them was ero-avertising I thing, not sure tho since I login to many networks daily and one of the adult ones popped this message upon loging in.

Google can most likely just detect these with their image matching technology - know how they can find an image in their image search based on a picture? This is the same tech I guess.

We will need to find another way to get high CTRs, this method is dying.

Hello,

Yes I used these banners too, they were not my primary ones, but I bought a fair share of traffic through them for sure

I just started the blog a week ago, so let's see what I can do with it.

Do you know bannerslanders.com? The owner used to post here on GFY too, they are fast and pretty cheap.

As someone above vetted for us, our ad network approves/rejects all banners manually before they go live and we don?t allow Jtags/javascripts on ads (as they?re more likely to contain malware or banner links like the one above)

Since you only have 140k visitors/ day I cannot guarantee you a high CTR but I CAN promise you that we will protect your site from bad links and advertisers? scams
