It should be said that the more fat consumed in conjunction with even simple carbs like straight sugar will slow the metabolism of the sugars dramatically. Meaning, if you have your shake and add a source of fat, the more fat you add (butter, avacado or whatever) will slow both the conversion of whey to glucose and the metabolism of the sugars and greatly reduce the potential for an insulin response.

Ignorance of the subject displayed in a larger font doesn't imply nor does one infer a greater knowledge of the subject nor more "rightness" on your part.

you are pointing to an article which points to a study which hypothesizes that something which they posit may be true.

Simple fact.

Extensive bone analysis studies from human bones and fossils to determine diets through our evolution have never once shown early/modern humans as being vegetarians anywhere in the archeological record.

You'd have to be pretty ignorant of basic diet and nutrition and human physiology to not understand that carbohydrates are THE ONLY non essential macro-nutrient. No fat. You die. No Protein. You die. No b12 (not found in fruits and vegetables) and you physically unravel and die. No carbohydrates and you perform fine, have less disease, more energy etc etc etc.

Humans and all monkeys are omnivores...this no carb stuff is just you believing everything you read on the net...Eskimos get carbs from raw meat...a liver has 100s of Gramma of carbs...freshly frozen seal meat does not get rigor mortis hence the glycogen in the muscles is still present... also they forage for plants during the warm season...roots,berries,grains...

Carbs are critical for brain and gut health...0 carb is madness...

I recently starting a low carb diet and lost 25 pounds in a short while. I cheat about once a week. It's crazy I always use to be hungry and eating was the best part of my day. Now I can pass up on meals and not think twice about it.

Amazing how less hungry you are throughout the day when you skip carbs for breakfast.

Try adding some greens to your breakfasts to mix things up. Keeping uric acid levels down during ketosis is important because it can cause some ill effects over time if that is neglected. Adding antioxidants to your diet will help with this.

With the massive rise in popularity in ketogenic eating, there is also a massive rise in "keto friendly recipes for..." which aren't keto friendly at all. Carb counts on labels rarely represent whats in the food. For example, you can look at a quart of Land o' lakes heavy cream and it says "0" carbs but in reality, it has like 3.4 grams per tablespoon. You can taste the lactose by just touching your tongue to it.

The real question is more like "what can i do with eggs, meat and cheese?". Be careful not be baited into bad advice simply because people chose for no reason whatosoever to claim something is "keto friendly". Even if your goal is not weight loss, its still not a great idea to bounce in and out of ketosis if you spike your blood sugar or cause an insulin response.

Our ancestors didn't have "great recipes". They had a weapon. They had meat. They had dried meat. They had fire.

.... and for anyone with questions,... no, there were no vegetarians in our evolutionary history ... ever.
They also lived until they were 20 so that is not a very valid example for this diet, but I hear what you are saying.

I think keto is pretty effective and I have had really good success with it over the years but it is pretty limiting overall and hard to reasonably sustain over prolonged periods of time. Ketosis doesn't need to be constant to be effective either. You get into ketosis quicker with intermittent fasting and can have similar results. As for spiking insulin, if it is done in controlled amounts it can actually aid in muscle building. Mixing keto with fasting can turn you into a fat burning machine pretty effectively.

incorrect... beef liver has 13 grams per LBS. Also, humans do not need carbs at all for brain or gut health as both fats and proteins can be converted into this through the liver as well.

that being said I'm not a fan of zero carb diets either as the research on it is quite new and I don't like the idea of avoiding antioxidants as a whole. There is not nearly enough in the beef or fish we eat no matter how much greens they are eating.

Hmmm...

Interesting thread as I am a 50 year old (yes I am quite old) Type 1 Diabetic... I tried the Keto diet about 6 months ago, lasted about 6 weeks then crashed due to some stress (yes I comfort eat) however the results for bringing down and controlling my blood Sugars were amazing...

So back on it now, been 9 days and it's killing me lol... I would kill for a biscuit.

But like the OP I am always looking for new things to eat... I love fish, so have kippers, salad and cider vinegar for breakfast/brunch... also bacon/sausage and all kinds of egg options (especially scrambled and poached)

I don't do a zero carb diet, so it does allow me some options (I aim for around 30-50 carbs a day)

great answers or recommendations. Hey, you might want to work around dairy as much as possible. Lot's of new studies coming out suggesting too much dairy might be cause of many cancers.
