Best way to track food and drink consumption?

I'm looking for a tool that I can use to track what I drink and eat, not just from a point of "eggs and bacon for breakfast" but from a point where I can run a report and see how many calories, fat and protein I consumed on Monday, then Tuesday, then for the week, etc.

I was told about My Fitness Pal and I joined but it doesn't seem to be working.

Are there any similar tools on the market?

MyFitnessPal is the best for sure. Are you trying to login via the web/iOS/Android?

MyFitnessPal almost certainly has the largest database. I'd recommend using the phone app instead instead of the web version. Very simple to use and quickly log your meals on the go, with the added bonus of being able to scan bar codes from food packaging.

I have used MyFitnessPal.
I liked it.

Currently I am doing Keto diet. I love it. I've lost... shit... where did I leave my phone?

Hmm... 30 lbs.

I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ps.carbmanager

It breaks things down a bit more than MFP does.

I learned how to cook and it was the death of me. I mean... I learned how to COOK!
Like make real shit and learned how to do shit right. But that meant my shit tasted so good everything needed seconds and thirds. I also began to like IPA beers.

I went from 230 to 255 very fast. Now I am 225 and still losing about 1 to 2 pounds per every 3 to 5 days.

On Keto I can eat a lot, but eventually you get full. It is hard to eat that much fat (unsaturated mostly) and not feel stuffed!

So gone are the days of dusting off a bag of Doritos in no time. Or enjoying beef wellington 3 times over.

I have to admit though... I was eating 2800 to 4200 calories a day. Well, also drinking with those IPA's.. now I eat 1700 to 2200 and often my workouts bring the net calories down a bit more.

Hope to have helped.

* I should also note: It happens where I eat a Fbomb nut butter packet and a hard boiled egg and feel FULL... and never eat again the rest of the day (500 calories).

I lost good weight on keto, but what took me a year, I put back on with a good weekend of pizza & beer. There is no substitute for excercise

carbmanager app and web version

https://www.carbmanager.com/

I have been using it since May and it does exactly what you asked for.

Their food database seems enormous, all sorts of brands already in there and you can add your own as necessary.

I have been doing a low carb diet since Mid May. As of this morning I have officially dropped 53 pounds. Woo hoo. From 268 to 215. I originaly had my goal at 225 then hit that easily so decided to lower it to 200. Rode a plateu at 219 for a week or so then dropped 4 in the last day or so.

I think logging the food is the most important step for me. Keeps me on track.

I love it!

This is exactly what I wanted! Thank you so much.

I have a few bad habits that I want to kick. By looking at a list of when I do them, it will be very helpful to give me a kick in the ass.

Congratulations on your weight loss by the way, that's fantastic.

You can track great with MyFitnessPal...but if you pay attention, eventually you can ditch the app and ballpark everything. If you get a readout that says you ate 2142 calories, there's no fucking way in hell you ate exactly 2142 calories. There's no app that can track down to the calorie, because it's kind of abstract anyway. When you input 75 calories for an apple or banana, even if you weigh it to the gram they won't have the calories they're supposed to, give or take a few percent. A hamburger might say it's 300, but what if there's more fat or less fat in it.

But that doesn't mean tracking isn't useful because it least the act of trying will get you close enough to get some fat loss goals accomplished. I always rounded up a little so I'd be guaranteed to come out in a deficit, even with the random tolerances up or down. If a cup of rice is supposed to be 360, then I round up to 380. The trick with that method is to not remember you're fooling yourself. It does work because I got my leanest when I overestimated the amount of calories I was eating. But that's no way to live all the time. Now, I automatically just know if I need to eat...or know that if I do have something at 9pm whether or not it will put me over my daily limit. Of course, that's still obsessive behavior but sometimes I say fuck it and eat whole half gallon of Cookies and Cream ice cream. But the next day I make up for it by eating way less.

I could ramble about this shit all night, but my point is to definitely use an app. But use it to teach yourself to be aware of what the fuck you're eating and pay attention to the calories vs protein ratios. A cup of Greek yogurt has about 130 calories and 16 grams of protein. That's a good ratio.

peanut butter has 200 calories and 5 grams of protein. That's a shitty ratio, but it doesn't mean peanut butter is bad for you. It's just bad if you want to get lean.

If you want a sure fire way to get lean, just make cod fish the staple of your diet. Eat a pound per day for an extended period of time. You will get ripped as long as your not also eating a dozen donuts and drinking a six pack of beer every day.

I am counting carbs, not calories. I pay a little attention to calories but not much. Carbs are much easier to be accurate on.

I also track my sodium and potassium. They are not quite as easy to track as carbs but still more accurate than calories.

The most fun way is to just weigh your food, and then weigh what comes out the other end..

Doc says do a low-carb diet, I do a low-carb diet. Same with sodium.

I do not get my medical/health advice from gfy, thanks anyway.

Also, I cannot argue with the weight loss.

Awesome weight loss!

Have you increased your cardio at all? Even just walking more, or parking a bit further out in the parking lot at stores?

I do the treadmill for half an hour and additional cardio for half hour about 5 days a week. I also bought a bicycle and have been riding that a bit. Still getting back used to it. We live on a nice size hill, about 1/4 of the way up so it is a bitch if I start with the uphill first.

I also walk, push my mower around the yard, do the yard work (which lately consists of throwing 80lb bags of cment around). I have always parked in the back half of the parking lot.

I have not been as consistent with the working out as I want to be. I do not enjoy it all that much, lol. But the scenery is often worth it ;p

i use MyFitnessPal and started to work out with a group of people (peer pressure!) about 2-3 times a week a while ago.

Haven't lost much weight (cause muscles!) but my physical condition has already drastically improved.

MyFitnessPal on a smart phone is great. You can scan bar codes, save regularly made recipes, and check how you did historically and, of course, so far that day.

A long time ago my son and I were at the beach with some friends. He looked at them then me and said. " Daddy you are fat ".

Something in my head and heart clicked at that statement and I decided to drop that fat and get back in shape.

Did a lot of reading while trying to start the weight loss. And a number of people said. Skip the counting it does not help.

1. Drop 80 to 90 % of carbs.
2. Daily carbs are before 9am.
3. Eat well. And eat lean after 4pm.

Exercise. walk, run, gym, fuck, what ever it takes and the pounds will come off.

I lost 48 pounds and have kept it off for 6 years.

oh no, that doesn't sound right at all... If you actually burned fat in that time it would take like 2 or 3 years to get it back unless you went on a binge for months at a time and even still...

bloating comes back fast but actual fat takes quite a bit of time and neglect when it comes to eating. And no amount of exercise can counter a shitty diet, believe me I've tried.
