Most firms are laying off staff in the technology world.

But VR is a problem, as headsets expensive with too few wanting them.

Tell that to the VR promoters out there who simply have an answer for everything and when faced with this reality start attacking you.

It does make sense but I'm sure technology will catch up to porn's request (which has always been the case)

These firms would be far better producing some simple stand alone light weight VR headsets.

Rather than opting for super realistic computer games, just basic old fashioned dos type games, or even the BBC B quality.

Make them cheap.

And that way they sell and lots of people make games and so on for them.

I guess a lot will be if Apple have a version.

But if I was to bet on the next trend it would be in the car, such as onscreen on windows or fancy gps systems or whatever.

Apple is supposed to be coming out with its own.

Apple’s mixed reality headset could feature full-body FaceTime avatars

Sounds interesting.

Billions of $$ spent but they didn't make a simple math.
Human brain will never accept VR. Being an ignorant has its costs.

I read these 2 books and since then I strongly advised against VR. It won't work because our brains reject conflicting impulses.

or

I posted a few times here on GFY about that. Nobody cared and still nobody cares:-) I hope you didn't invest too much in VR.

Flashing lights? Well, no. It's about matching the sight with other impulses coming from human body. Like heart rate, blood pressure, adrenalin level, etc.
Each movement causes them. Unless you're not moving but your eyes provide a movement to your brain. CONFLICT. Then your brain takes it as possible poisoning.
Sight is not just seeing. There's a lot more to it. After you'll read one of those books, your doubts will vanish. :-)

im not reading fucking books on the subject. ok i was right...
They found that common concerns associated with VR headsets were headaches or nausea. However, in some studies, adults were more likely to report having negative experiences following VR headset use (headache, eye strain, neck soreness, etc.) than were children.
https://www.kaixr.com/post/are-vr-headsets-safe i think you need to grow into it.

One can't be wrong for 8 years and still believe, it will turn over to positive. Unless someone pays to say that.
MS is dropping VR, Oculus dropped VR a couple of years ago. I wish you luck in promoting a failed technology.

That maybe in your home - I have 5 kids and none of them want it and laugh when I suggested it (and they have a lot of the latest gadgets). They asked their friends at school and no one has them either both high school and elementary. Neighbors I've talked too - volunteer groups - even the actual shops that sell them - no one wants them - or has them - period.

I'm sure somewhere in the world around you kids are using them - but anyone I ask in the industry with kids or without I still get the same answer - most don't have it and those who do - rarely go back in the future because they don't like it.

Sometime in the future maybe - but not now.

How about you use VR at least fucking once before commenting on it. I walk around my full enormous ass living room when I play VR golf. You aren't sitting still and watching shit around you unless you want to.

The problem is that legacy companies can't figure out VR. The value proposition is incredible.

But why do I need a safe room? The cheap ass Quest 2 maps out my living room and shows me where obstacles are. It feels identical to walking in real life.

It would be a lot different if Oculus or HTC got out of the business, though. Microsoft getting out of VR is the same as Ngage going away then saying all video games are dead because of it..

Ok - I'm going to ignore what you said because it makes no sense.

have a read on from Forbes magazine on VR headsets

VR Headset Sales Underperform Expectations, What Does It Mean For The Metaverse In 2023?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/qai/2023/01/06/vr-headset-sales-underperform-expectations-what-does-it-mean-for-the-metaverse-in-2023/#:~:text=VR%20headset%20sales%20were%20down%202%25 %20year%2Dover%2Dyear,shipments%20fell%2012%25%20i n%202022.

Key takeaways

VR headset sales were down in 2022, reflecting waning interest in a buggy metaverse.

Even if consumers wanted to engage with this technology, the current price of headsets makes it inaccessible for many Americans.

Several huge companies are releasing new VR headsets this year, including Apple, Meta, HTC and PlayStation. However, these new releases might not be enough to cause a peak in consumer interest like VR headsets experienced in 2021.

VR just isn’t good enough yet

The PS5 was popular in 2021 because the quality of the video gaming experience was phenomenal compared to the metaverse experience.

It’s not just about a lower-quality user experience. The tech is so new that there have been severe delays in getting these headsets to market.

For example, Apple's headset has been much anticipated and was initially expected to hit shelves this month. However, citing delays in software development, the company pushed off the product's launch until the second half of 2023.

Now - I would expect this also from porn and judging by what I've seen over 30 years - as I've said countless of times- there is potential in VR but it's not there yet and users simply don't want to get involved. I hope for the best - but with new technology coming out, VR just maybe a fad or the future. Time will only tell - but you can't say it's here and now.

Good enough for what? I played with one of the first VR headsets ever back in I think 1994 in Chicago's North Pier. I had a great time, and the headsets were much bigger back then and I think each one cost about $500,000.

No one cares about the Metaverse, no one ever did...

No need to get snarky since a reputable outlet basically shot you down. If you did some honest reviews and actual read some articles ( Forbes was from Jan 6, 2023 ) then you wouldn't have to wait for me to say anything - you already would have known. Jesus - if you're honestly getting your news from GFY rather than doing your due diligence then maybe you'd be looking honestly at the product instead of misinformation. Yet because it's affecting your bottom line - you'll say anything to avoid criticism.

Fair enough - good luck with your plans in 2023 - hope it's a success for you - ignore the demographics and news reports along with what others say and go full steam ahead - truth be damned.

Forbes.com has been a paid content platform since 2010. 99% of the articles you read there, an independent third party has paid Forbes to publish there. None are vetted or checked for accuracy.

I meant like you, brassmonkey, could apply to be a paid Forbes contributor and pay the fees and now TheLegacy will be citing your articles in future posts.

Forbes is basically funded by gurus and course sellers who publish puff pieces to fake credibility. They don't need to outsource.

you think any of the stuff out there is pure facts? most of all of it has holes. because people voice their opinions and beliefs. it's up to the reader to investigate it.

or you deny reality because you refuse to read the news.

nvm - you have something to gain from this so you're not going to give up. It's to your advantage to make posters think VR is a no brainer when in fact multiple threads speak against it but you deny the reality and push your narrative. Being a GFY oldie also means I've learned over the years to spot BS a mile away in addition to know when to just leave something / someone to their own illusion because they simply don't want to accept the truth. Yes I've been around for 30 years part of which is avoiding stuff like this knowing that maybe someday it can be good - I still wish you the best.

Sight is not just seeing. There's a lot more to it. After you'll read one of those books, your doubts will vanish. :-)
You were wrong 5 years ago and you still are

And some of you can't even tell AR and VR apart

You mean 7 years ago. For exactly 7 years you keep saying VR is coming big.
It reminds me of orthodox Jews 3 thousand years ago. "Messiah is coming!" - still waiting...

Would you think in 2016 that you'll have no proof of VR being a mass product in 2023?

VR is already too old to break through. The break thru momentum is over. After countless of tries and billions of $ spent. It will remain a niche.
The reasons for that didn't change, check it out:

This is best question I think I've been asked in a long time - and to answer - yes I do.

I don't think I do any google searches without first including big boobs - even when ordering pizza

love the site btw https://www.3wasonnet.com/tour/

I quit shooting VR in 2017 after producing hundreds of scenes, my ex partner is still doing it.

I do mostly mainstream AR since 2018, so no, I do not claim what you say I claim.

But the nonsense you write about the human brain and so on is still the same nonsense as 7 years ago.
