Just curious, how is Bush doing in the USA?(for US ppl)

Just curious, since I see some ppl already promoting Bush on their GFY sig(how stupid are you) how do you think Bush will do at the elections?

Will he be voted again? Or is there a good democratic candidate?

It really depends on the economy I think. Right now he has high approval ratings.

But his re-elect numbers are pretty low - if the economy doesn't start to turn around soon - by the end of this year - and start adding jobs - i think he could be in trouble.

There's graffiti in the streets where I live -- "Fuck Bush", etc... I noticed the same thing in NYC...

On the other hand -- you do see a lot of flag waving here... but there are just as many "anti-american" americans now...

anyway, it's not my cup of tea.

You're 100% right but "getting into" is not the same as "graduating from"

No one is handed a yale degree no matter who your daddy is.

Lol, well maybe because we have a different system in Europe I made a mistake in the grammar about grades...

But the fiest intention of this thread was if you think Bush will be elected yes/no, looks like you are to stupid to asnwer that question

FYI: USA don't control the whole world. Only some parts to control the peace, or whatever reason you think they are there

Bush's circle is oil and military ( mainly the Carlyle Group and Halliburton). It is time for payback. People don't give him millions " no string attached".

PS: 12clicks, how's Bush military service records?

they're as good as any democratic president you'd like to trot out from the last 30yrs.

Of course, what this has to do with presidential ability can only be answered in the mind of a directfiesta.

I think the problem the last 5 years or so with alot on the left is they are willing to damage their country, and hope for negative things to happen to the country in hopes of political gain down the road.

I think that is un-american.

At the moment it looks like he will be re-elected. All of the democrats running are morons, which is typical, as the party process only pushes those at the top of the looney bin to the speaker circuit.

The only way Bush will be defeated is if something like what happened to his father happens - a completely unknown exciting candidate like Clinton suddenly emerges, or a conservative third party candidate draws 10% or so of the vote away from him.

Most people are smart enough to know that that cyclical econmic trends span presidential terms and are largely immune to short term policies anyway.

I don't agree with some of Bush policy - the pandering to the religious right makes me ill, but its bearable because he needs them to get elected.

Overall most Americans give him high marks. He has the "Go Fuck Yourself" kind of attitude we love, and nobody gives a shit if he rubs Europeans the wrong way, they'll all be back begging for help with their next annual crisis anyway.

I don't wish for any damage on this country. Since us on the left were disenfranchised, the election was rigged, we can't have too much effect on things. It's all in the hands of the right.

I've spent the past three years cringing at every bit of damage inflicted on what was a great country. I cringed as the religious right destroyed civil liberties in the name of fighting terrorism, to where now they want to even consider people who protest terrorists and put them in secret trials without legal representation. I cringed as he sent thousands and thousands of young men and women to uncertain fate based on half-truths and exaggerations. I cringed as one cronyist economic policy after another, seemingly without rhyme or reason, took a strong economy and blasted it to hell and back.

To hear people rushing out "un-American" is such a Mccarthyist word it makes my skin crawl, my country right or wrong nationalism. Is supporting all of this disaster worth it because of a strange perception that you might pay a few bucks less in taxes?

I suspect that Bush will "pull a Nixon"... In that I think he is very likely to get a second term, and then soon after his re-election, enough will come out to show just how crooked he really is. The process to discredit a politician on that level us usually slower than the process to get re-elected.

I would also like to say that if Impeachment proceedings were started for Clinton over a blow job, then if it turns out that Bush really did fabricate reasons for the war, they had better go all the way.

Bush is a sure thing for re-election.

The real story will be the recall elecetion of Gray Davis in California. 1.5 million signatures have already been collected, almost twice as many as needed.

This is what most of the spin comes down to. The left is still bitter about an election they flat out lost.

Get over it. Hell, you got to have Clinton in there for 8 years, and it was 8 years of doing nothing and scandals.

So all the congress elections were fixed too? Most of the people across the heartland are moderate to right leaning. Have to get out of San Francisco and New York sometime to see that.

Proof that IQ means nothing.

The two worst presidents of the 20th Century, Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter were incredibly gifted academically with advanced university degrees and both were huge failures as leaders.

the worst thing about all this, is the fact that Bush will probally get reelected because there is no one that can stand a chance aginst him in the next round... it's not because he is so good... it's because they are all so bad.

To briefly answer your question, the current strong candidate right now for the Democratic nomination is Howard Dean. Here's a little info on him. He was a graduate of Yale. Got is his medical degree at the Albert Einstein School of Medecine. He was the governor of Vermont for 12 years.

As his stance on the issue, he appear to be somewhat moderate on most issues. He support universal health care and gay unions, yet got an A from the NRA. He fought with his own democratic party to balance the budget. Now Vermont is one of the few states that can hold it's own during a recession.

He appears to be VERY popular in the internet community. He raised over 4 millions on the net, and 7.6 millions overall with over 75,000 contributors ( I think ). This fund rasising is diminutive compare to What President Bush will be raising. I heard some pundits said at his pace, Bush can probably raise 400 million dollars.

Anyway, here's a few links supporting Dean.

Dean Blog , DeanforAmerica.com
WewantDean

This is quite fascinating. You think strong grassroots are big winners for politicians, but wait until 'netroots' catches up. Dean is huge at meetup.com with over 60,000 members and rising.

It's crazy how what the net is doing right now in the political process.

I wonder what your opinion on that is 12clicks.. do you think America should try to achieve world domination (if it hasn't already?)

Do you think that absolute power is a good thing for the USA to have? Or do you believe in cooperation / discussion when it comes to world politics?

Just curious is all

Undutchable,

Interesting question and I know you addressed it specifically to 12 Clicks but ...

It seems to me that all nations act in their best interest. With the present day gap between the US military and the rest of the world militarily it is an excellent strategy for the rest of the world to act accordingly and hence "cooperatively". For France, for example, it is advantageous to try and strengthen and expand the scope of organizations like the UN and the EU. Much of France's power on the global stage is the result of it's being a permanent member of the Security Council and having veto power on resolutions.

Balance of power. Leagues, organizations, and unions fullfill the role they always have; they combine the wills and wishes of their members in order to increase their political power. OPEC, the UN, NATO, the Arab League all increase the political power of their members through aggregation of power. Sometimes that works as intended and sometimes not. It is pretty difficult to attain consensus on any event of word importance regardless of the organization. Their rarely, if ever, is.

The US does not have absolute power. It has a lot. It cannot enforce it's will on the world however it does wield much influence in the world due to her military supremacy.

It is very important for the US to act cooperatively in many ways and it does. It is not as important for the US to act cooperatively as it is for maybe a country like France who cannot by itself wield enough power to counteract the US.

Balance of power....I was just reading that the US military spending nearly exceeds that of the next nine nations.

And for the record, the Democrats didn't lose, and Bush wasn't elected, he was selected by a Supreme Court appointed mostly under Reagan and Bush:

50,996,116 Gore
50,456,169 Bush

And those numbers would have been a lot more in Gore's favor if more blacks were allowed to vote in Florida instead of being disenfranched en masse (interestingly enough the executive VP of the firm that supplied that list died in a plane crash April 2002).

2.5 million jobs lost, the unemployment rate is at 6.4%, stock market has gone from around 11000 down to 8000 (27%!)...this and the seeming rush to spread our military thinly to every corner of the globe. It's a house of cards.

If Stupid is the only thing you can bring to the table when describing why you dislike the guy be comforted that your only real supporters will be "stupid"

When you get into the tax plan, the economic reform, the position on world affairs etc....then you will be able to point our the short comings.

If you can only justify with "I think he is stupid and he has never accomplished a thing on his own merit"

You should think about how you look when you make statement like that...anyone can see he is not doing wonders in uniting this country, or recovering the economy.... but he is very far away from being stupid.

Cooperation and discussion are fine but you confuse doing what's right regardless what others think with a lack of cooperation and discussion.

You don't discuss with a group of 5 year olds how much candy you should eat and when they say "eat the whole bag" you go along with it because they all voted that way. You don't eat the whole bag because you know better.

You pretend that there wasn't discussion and cooperation when we attacked iraq. Let me remind you that they surrendered to us in the gulf war and agreed to certain conditions. Do you forget that we only attacked iraq after they invaded kuwait?
Then we cooled our heels for 10 years while the assclowns you want us to cooperate and discuss with jerked each other off about how to make iraq comply with the agreement of their surrender.

It appears that most complaints from non-Americans about what we do comes from jealousy over the fact that we aren't afraid to ignore the children of the world when making important decisions.
