That, and to all these mac people who say, "Well you can run windows on a mac." -- Why the fuck would I want to pay for two operating systems?

I wouldn't care if people were actually non-tools about it, but when you say shit like "you can run Windows on a MAC" etc, etc it's my right to point out the fact that you are a moron with no decent argument and someone who is obviously on a bandwagon with the other mac fags who got sucked into the hype. Shit, most of the websites on the net have been designed in Windows for Christs sake. Most schools have Windows computers. The only MAC users I have known are:
* Dickheads who had the hand-me-down from their big brother * College hipster faggots who saw the glowing Apple on an Macbook on an episode of Six Feet Under and thought it would be cool to own one, and that they would look cool with it around campus. * Guys that buy one to impress girls -Fuck off, what fucking girl other than a fat geek cunt is gonna be interested in you because of a shitty plastic notebook? * Hipster business faggots - "oh yeah, check me out in first class with my Mac, I'm so fucking awesome" - no you're not, you're a tool. * Old people - well it is easier to use, go figure! * Steve Jobs Same with the iPod, it's all about the looks pretty much. |

Depends what you want to do. I do some web development, and Macs are a near perfect platform for it. Unix in the background so I can fire up VIM to write all my code, then test it in every single browser available today. You can run IE7, IE6 (or any other windows app), Safari, Opera, Firefox on your mac desktop all at once.
For those times you have to use a windows application for something, you can, using Parallels. For those times you need a unix command prompt and scriptibility, you have it. For those times you need linux open source programs, you can run them on OSX (most of the time).

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() However, I think it would be fair to say that as both platforms are evolving I think that the perception of a macos should evolve as well.....So far, peoples responses in this thread have been that windows vista is not that great.....why not look at alternative options such as the mac. I am not in the business of getting a computer for "show," I want something that works with a limited amount of problems....because lets get real, every OS will have its problems, but which one performs the best. |

PS3 for games? Are you serious? PC games rule over consoles any day of the week. That was weak as fuck. "Interesting to see that everyones who are "bashing" Macs NEVER, EVER tried one... I'm not talking about fooling around with one at the Mac store for 5 minutes, I say a real try. ALL the ones who did really tried a Mac so far simply LOVE it..." - Everyone who bashes MAC has never used one before? WTF are you talking about and where did people in here say this for you to come up with this conclusion like it is a fact. All the ones who tried a mac love it? You are just pulling this out of your ass because you have nothing to back this up with, no facts, nothing. You made a very stupid and ignorant argument right there, making shit up. Tool. |

Can you not do that now that they're using x86 and x64 based processors?
Retarded if they're still trying to lock people into their hardware, which is now the same as everyone else.

Same answer as always for this sort of thing:
Make a list of the work you do or woudl do with your laptop. Consider everything, from updating a site when you are on the road to mail, playing music, programming... whatever it is, make a list WITHOUT CONSIDERING A COMPUTER... just make the list. Once you have the list, check the Mac notebook you were considering. Click off everything you can do that is on your list. At the bottom, write down the price. Then do the same with a comparable windows based laptop. click down the list, and put the price. At the end of the day, the answer should be obvious. If both do the same, take whichever turns you on. |

So even if you try to install OSX on a PC it won't work... The reason why is not that retarded IMHO' Apple don't wants problems and wants to have an operating system that is perfectly matched for their machines, so this way they are sure that everyting works fines... If they would "open" the door and let's say release a PC version of their OS, some would install it on some cheap shitty clones or old PC machines just to try it, then say that OSX sucks when it might be the computer itself the problem ![]() |

I'm a PC user and always have been. I don't care if other people use Macs or PC. But if you get a Mac and something breaks don't ask a PC user to fix it. It seems like Mac users (or the ones I know) are helpless when their systems don't work right. And they falsely think that any PC user can easily fix it.

![]() They're using woodcrest xeon's on the mac pro, and c2d's on the imac's. They aren't special, they're the exact same thing anyone can buy. I checked and the only thing locking OSX to their hardware is a security chip on the motherboard. Apple just wants to keep people locked into their overpriced hardware. But there's a hack for it, so you can in fact run OSX on the pc. I might actually try it ![]() http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,68501,00.html

Windows does not support EFI. Because of that, no PC's out there support it. I believe part of the reason apple chose it, was to make it more difficult to get OSX running on non-apple machines. However, you can run Mac OSX on regular PC's if you have the right hardware. Check out the OSX x86 Project: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

You cant call Mac OS crap lol
Wait till Leopard release it will blow Vista years away again. Mac saves time like crazy. If you are working with media, Mac is your only option. I work with photography on my Mac, using Aperture, Iview and Phase One, I would never reach such results in quality and speed with Windows. This is nothing to argue about, 10 times more control and 20 times faster. Once it was about beauty nowadays its about the power. |

lol what a coincidence, I'm testing as we speak ubuntu Linux and will check in a bit Freebsd. I've installed only some basic apps, but overall it's very easy to use and extremely fast. Greatest part is you can see NTFS disks without a problem.
Is it true that default Freebsd installation doesnt come with any GUI? Ubuntu comes with gnome on default installation like most linux flavors i recall from the past like suse. |

ideally i'd use my mac for anything online and my pc for anything i can do offline. i have 2 mac laptops and love them dearly. i'm not going to say i don't think they're sexy, but when it comes down to it my OS never crashes. i don't have to check the task manager 20 times a day to figure out why my processor has slowed to a screeching hault, and i get great video editing, photoshop, graphics and music programs in general. i prefer the mac with UNIX backend to a pc running XP or Vista anyday. ![]()

Ok, I'm not here to get bitched at, just to give my personal opinion to the person who originally started this thread. That being said...
I have owned Mac desktops and laptops and pc desktops and laptops. I grew up using both pc and Mac, pc at home and Mac at school. After using Mac for a while at school I suggested we try one at home, and we went ahead and got one. My mom got herself one shortly thereafter. Then we upgraded our pc. Then we both got iBooks. In college I used both a pc laptop and my ibook. So as you can see, I've had plenty of experience with both to be able to form an opinion. I prefer Mac. I will admit, I don't do any programming or gaming, so I can't speak for those types of programs, but for the things that I'm interested in, my Macs work much better. I've never had any real compatibility problems, the only programs that weren't compatible were ones I didn't really need anyway, just fluff. I have Office for Mac, so I have no problems there. The Macs never freeze, but the Safari browser occassionally locks up if there's some kind of media file on the page I open that isn't compatible. No big deal to me. I just fire up IE if I really want to see it. I just think Mac's are more user friendly, which is important to me. Everything seems to be set up in a way that makes things as easy as possible on me. I've got great music, photo editting, and video editting programs. Dreamweaver, Flash, all that good stuff. I don't absolutely hate pc's, I still use them at work and occassionally at home, I just like Mac more. OH and I honestly can't stand having more than one button on the mouse/clickpad ![]()

http://www.desktopbsd.net comes with KDE. For the record bsd is not actually linux, but it runs most of its binaries, while the opposite doesnt happen.
I've used myself Windows from version 1.0 in 1986 and up to XP/w2k3. Overall I was never impressed with the work done by MSFT and always having in mind the size of the company. Last week I checked a full preview video of Vista and again I was kind of dissapointed. MacOs as Diesel said is great OS and keeps getting better for the simple reason it introduces various innovations that are on the right direction. With Windows you can't tell all their changes are actual improvements. I predict over the next 10 years new OS slowly but steadily will gain popularity among users. Have you heard the One Laptop per Child project by Nikos Negroponte? It's not a project anymore, rather a reality and comes with an OS for kids called SUGAR which was developed by Red Hat team itself. It's going to be distributed to millions of students all of which they'll more likely be introduced to linux principles before even getting to hear about Windows. |

probably gonna jinx myself ....I have 5 PC's and one macG4 ..but i spend almost all my time on my little shitty toshiba laptop 1.5G ram .. 60 G hard drive .. xp pro ... for over a year it has pretty much been running non stop .. and I just recently bought a cooling fan for it under serious recommendation .. but i personally think the trick is to keep it clean .. Ccleaner .. and registry repair regularly.. ad aware and grisoft ..everything licensed .. and legal .. and it runs pretty damn good ..

Someone please tell me why YOU need a Mac.
I've had this PC for at least 4 years. I haven't had one problem with it. It's fast, very reliable, and runs every program I need it to. |

If you refer to my previous posts on this matter, I said I was simply looking into the mac route. I didnt say I was going to buy one. I too have had a compaq for four years with limited amounts of problems because I knew my systems tendencies inside out. Since the macos as evolved singnificantly over the years and many compatibility issues have been resolved, I feel inclined to give the macos a chance.....thats all. I am already in the process of working with a macos on a macbook to see if its performance(not show) impresses me.....so far it has met all my expectations in all areas.
