Russian Fighter Jets Intercepted Near Alaska

Six Russian MiG 35 fighter jets entered a US "air defense identification zone" Friday and were intercepted by American and Canadian warplanes near Alaska, two US defense officials said.

Although Russian aircraft have entered the zone previously it was "the first time in a long time" that fighter jets passed through the area, a defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

The Russian planes left the area without incident, he said.

These little aircraft incursions are nothing new, they do it all over and we do the same to them. We fly spy planes right up to their boarders and hell the Blackbird used to penetrate their air space. In fact the BlackBird was often used to fly over various "bad guy" countries during their public parades and speeches just to sonic boom their asses.

Hell Russia couldn't even properly invade Ukraine, Putin lolly gagged around trying to pretend he didn't really want it and now NATO has their forces staged In yet another country. If Putin was a bad ass and wasn't worried about being punished, he would of taken all of Ukraine in the first few weeks not just the military base.

Russia could of rolled over Ukraine at the start and there would of been nothing NATO could of done about it, but he wasted some much time trying playing that he lost his opportunity. Now Russia has yet another enemy at it's door steps and has alienated themselves from a former ally.

Russia is doing nothing but putting themselves in check..

Its OK Europe economy will suffer as well due to this sanctions. Euro currency will drop even more by year end, since most people,investors will switch and stick with USD dollar for now.

I thought you are the only idiot here, but looks like the NBC guys are not smarter either... There is no a single sanction against Russian travel agencies. If you look at the list you will discover that all of them apply to banks, large companies like Gasprom and to some Russian politicians personally. That's all.

As about the bankruptcy. There is a lot of ones that were bankrupt long before and they just waited for a good moment. The problem is that most of these companies are anachronism in the Internet era. People don't want to pay to mediators anymore because they can book hotels and flights directly.

Most of these agencies were able to live only because of police/FSB officers. For a note: these have a right to fly anywhere for free (in fact the government pays for them) once per year. So they never bothered to find a cheaper flight (why should they if it's free anyways?) Thus they always were the most important clients for the travel agencies. However the situation has changed after the Ukrainian crisis. Now police/FSB officers are allowed to travel to a limited list of countries only (in fact they can't leave Russia at all). This is not because of sanctions. This is their internal regulation to avoid possible problems outside of Russia. This regulation has lowered the number of tourists that use travel agency services up to 30%. Course that was used as a bankruptcy justification by many cheap and rogue travel agencies. On the other hand, the big and trusted ones like Tez Tour are working in a regular way.

You look like a clown here because you are trying to discuss on things you have no idea about. So once again: there are no sanctions towards Russian travel agencies.

P.S. One more thing. A few rogue travel agencies gone bankrupt in Russia (some simple "disappear") every single year. Thus every traveler is risking a lot using the cheap and small companies to buy a tour. It's like playing a Russian roulette. As I said above, there are big and trusted companies, but their prices are much higher. purchasing power parity per capita is used when comparing living standards rather than the nominal GDP per capita. It is really basic, take the time to understand it. Here is a good start:

You DO NOT compare net salaries b/n two countries, you need to take into account the cost of living, this is why you use GDP per capita PPP.

Yes, Russia has higher GDP per capita PPP than Romania and Bulgaria and lower than anybody else in the EU from what I remember; also Russia is failing in all other indices like health, education, etc. which is why the HDI (adjusted for inequality) is the index that has been used for the past few years, it gives you the entire picture.

Also - human development is used to measure quality of life and has nothing to do with technological development, achievements, breakthroughs, etc. For instance, India has some sort of space program and a massive biotechnology sector, but low HDI.

I mean unique space technologies, high-tech weapons, nuclear technologies etc. Millions of people are involved into high-tech development and production here. Do you think it's possible in a country with a low education level? LOL ))) How many genius programmers, mathematics physics etc live in Russia and outside of it (I'm talking about those great US scientists who got their education here)?
