Is this a reason to ask for a refund

I bought a program (will not mention the company name) for 600 US promossing that that program will convert any file into flv or mpeg a tube a like program.

I run into converting problems there his program only support WMV8 and that is pretty outdated. We are using finalcut with sorenson pro and the lowest we can spit out is a WMV9.

The website is not talking or showing that WMV9 is not supported

So I bought myself a bummer

I consider too ask a refund there the program is not doing what it is saying.

Correct or .....

Ok but the script is not editable so I can not use this. I have to use the build in converter and that is the mais problem.

Ask rather nicely for a refund. If they don't oblige, start asking a bit more, like 'please guys, I don't want to have to make a chargeback on this one, it's bad for both of us', and so on. You should get your money back, I wouldn't be happy with a 600 dollar dud.

It costed you 600usd and don't do what is supposed to do!

I'll surely ask for a refund or change it for another program that works the way you need.

As Chief said, you'll have all the chances if you ask politely. There's no point in demanding a refund at first sight. If you talk to them, I'm sure they'll like you and be willing to do their best to pleased you.

Good luck!

That's because all the frames from the video could be read, because it was properly encoded in the first place. There's nothing me, the script, God, or anybody else can do, if the source videos contain frames which cannot be read.

And it doesn't matter if the video works on Youtube, because Youtube has it's own conversion technology. They have millions of dollars to invest and develop that, and don't need to rely on opensource/free software to handle the conversion.
The video actually gets converted, but the thumbnails cannot be created, and it most certainly it has to do with the encoding of the exported files.

When you export video files with that software, perhaps it has an option or something to allow you to export wmv8 video type, not wmv9. I'm not sure if this will work, but it's something worth trying.

---------------------------------------

Sorenson don't have this option but I guess it is also ridiculous to get back to WMV8, less quality in picture and sound. We are using Finalcur Pro and Sorenson Pro

His answer:

2. The fact thats file you encode with whatever software is causing problems is no reason for any refund. Especially since nobody else is having this "issue"
3. The product is non refundable, as clearly stated in the license agreement.

7. REFUND POLICY

Please take time and evaluate the software using our online demo or trial version. Before purchase, make sure that your server supports the software requirements. Refunds will not be given for reasons surrounding the user's lack of knowledge of the software's functionality, limitations, or restrictions, as we provided every opportunity to evaluate the software prior to purchase. If you have a question, please ask our staff before making your purchase. Complete source code is shipped with the software, the digital nature of the product makes it non-returnable; therefore all sales are final. Refunds are NOT given for installation fees or other non-product labor costs.

Caveat emptor. Especially when they give you an opportunity to try it yourself. Just because it works for others doesn't mean it will work for you.

You blew it IMO.

It sounds like he doesn't understand your problem and can't offer you any good advice.

It doesn't make sense that he wouldn't want to update his $1000 program to work with WM9 but I don't know all the details..

I would for sure contact them about the "issue" and ask them for their support
they may have a fix, or may offer you some kind of refund.

These are thing you really should have asked before purchasing a product for $600

I dont think it is purely their fault in the situation so if they dont offer you a full refund
i wouldnt be surprised.

Live and learn.

Are you sure it is because it doesn't support wmv9 and not because you need to downgrade your MEncoder on your server?

I don't know for sure... because I am not technical at all and if my programmer were not on the road today I would have confirmed with him before writing anything on GFY about this.

That said, I have a software called www.CCBTools.com and one of the many tools we provide to programs through this software is something that will convert files from MPEG/WMV to FLV.

When we started installing it for people we discovered that there was a known flaw in the newest version of MEncoder with no date or plan to fix it.

So we had to ask for our client's host to downgrade their MEncoder to the previous version which solved the problem.

I am not sure if that could help you guys with your problem since as I disclosed I am not really very technical, I just regurgitate what my programmer tells me to say lol

Ya they will do it for you no problem as that would totally fall to hosting support.

Hope that helps. And if not hope you get a refund. Typically if you buy software that doesn't work for you the company will let you have a refund.

I'd get a refund or chargeback... if a softwrae has doesn't support all video types but "misses" mentioning that to its buyers, that definate grounds for a refund or a chargeback.
