Hello everyone,

First I want to say I wish alphrared and there customers best of luck and hopefully they can get past any issues they are having and continue to provide there clients with there services.

I want to say to anyone out there please listen to Milian from Oc3networks and backup all your data ASAP.

I have talked to our CEO Chris Jester III granting clearance to make the following offer to anyone who is in fear of losing there data or there server going off and there websites become unreachable.

We will assist you in moving your servers for free, charging no setup fee's and providing you first months free. We are doing this because we know a lot of you are unsure about what is going on, so the first month free is in case you move to us and alphared is fine and you wish to move back. Your data will be safe and it will not cost you a penny.

If you choose to host with us I want you to know we will take care of you and do everything we can to make a transition to our services as easy and painless as possible.

If you have any questions please contact me on aim @ splitjoelp or you can call me directly @ 619-395-5229 and we can talk and answer any of your questions. We have an unlimited amount of servers so we can have you moved in no time.

Once again best of luck to Alphared and there customers, and a thanks to Milian from Oc3 Networks for making the post warning people to take actions to backup there data and move if need be.

Have a good day.

Of course it can, a company that is based on selling BW for 1 dollar per meg profit and then add the money for servers, routers and other hardware and then data center and tech and other employee fees.......LOL those type of companies always go bankrupt.

Look at Like Whooa, Foundry Nap, cologroup....all these idiots tried to just earn biz by being cheap and all went under.....It's just not a good (profitable) business model.

This would probably be a good time for most people to consider having an offsite backup with a 3rd party, like Clonebox (not sure if my strongbox refcode works for this service, but I may as well try )

What good is having daily backups if they're with your host that just went out of business?

A full clonebox hot spare server is $24/mo for 200GB, 12 cents per additional GB.

We're certainly ready to step in as well and help out with any immediate hosting needs. Hit up anyone in sales at CCBill or CaveCreek and we can talk about hosting or data storage (disaster recovery) services.

I dont think they went down for anything to do with being cheap. Its fairly obvious why they are going down lol.

and your kinda calling their customers cheap by extension.

No kidding... and what makes this a perfect storm, is the people who actually host with AlphaRed posting here and telling everyone they hope they get their shit off the network before something substancial happens, AND AlphaRed not even making a peep about anything.

I never said they went down for being cheap, I was inferring that with their business model of being a cheap host and opperating at a tiny profit margin if even that, that they don't have shit for resources to to even think about fighting a legal battle with Microsoft or the Attorney Generals office. Also YES their customers are cheap, thats why they choose to go with a bottom of the barrel host rather than a quality host for a few more bucks.

When they oversell and bill out at 95th and get billed at the 90th percentile, and sell at 4/Mbps and their cost is slightly below. when you have 40+Gbps bandwidth your low margins make up for volume. a 3-4 dollar profit margin is the same if your selling for 15/Mbps. There are lots of variables involved and lots of different business models to go by. By the volume of bandwidth they were pushing i'm sure they were doing well for themselves.

You aren't even taking into account their cost of corporate overhead, support, office space, other bills, power, physical space, etc.

Their products were priced at straight up $4-5/mbps so a 100mbps box was $400-500 with hardware included, even $4/mbps @ 90% isn't going to cover all their costs.

No its not, but the massive overselling they did makes up for a large chunk. Not to mention however many accounts they have still at 8/Mbps pricing etc that they were running a year ago. and now their cost was sub 4/Mbps.

You and I both know they were the cheapest cogent boxes 1-2 years ago and undercut everybody and I'm sure they still had plenty of people still paying 8-10/Mbps when their cost was sub 4. Thats still nice profit on top of the massive overselling.

Ilan,

Thanks for the compliments, wish I could recipricate but I still can't believe you would hire Chris Gotzmann and then assist in the cover up and continue to allow him to operate under a false identity.

At the very least you made the promise to cover any of his oustanding debts which was a nice move but stil... Chris? come on man.

I somehow doubt that any company in this thread who was in their position, using your own profits would have been able to stand up to microsoft/washington state. Of course that being said... most sane people would come to an agreement with them.

You might make 10-15/mbit more than they did, but dont forget they sold 200,000 megabits more than you (literally). if they made ONLY $1/mbit per server (which I'm betting they made more than that) they still ownz you.

Being located in Seattle, and located 1 block away from the Courthouse, I can personally testify to their brutal effectiveness (mainly b/c they have a great cafeteria and its reasonably fun to watch). Even when they don't win the case, they still ruin your business.

Hell just being NAMED in the articles with this was probably massive damage to their business.

4 USD is no problem to rich, if you have a big amount of bandwidth and still make a profit or at least make profit on rent of servers. But we speak about 5 gbits and more. With price 400$ server + 100 mbps traffic is quote difficult to cover costs.

Absolute, total bullshit. You can take it to 50, 100, 200 gigabit and you're still wrong. One could at best wash on the wholesale costs of the raw bandwidth (which is only a portion of the expense to delivering network) but would absolutely lose money in scale even with server rental or colocation. In any scale, there must be margin on every component or the model isn't viable.

And you would be incorrect, again. The $4 HE promotion isn't a true $4 rate, it's for a fully committed 1g or 10g port and isn't even a burstable product.

Just to let you know, on 10GE full port you can get a better price

Good Luck, Alex.
