Bad heartburn...

Little Caesars is giving me the most fucked up heart burn. I thought it was the wine I drank last night, but I re-heated some pizza for lunch and I'm dying of the heart burn again.

Anyone have this problem? Know of a solution?

Try to eat some bread or porridge or soft food like this. It will help probably.

I have chronic heartburn every single day. Been living with it for years.
Here's what you do:

Get some heartburn pills, like from Safeway or something. You want Zantac or the equivalent. Next, get one pill out & ready to swallow. Next, Pour a half glass of water, like 4 ounces or so. Mix in a half teaspoon of baking soda and stir until it's clear. Make sure it's clear. Drink it, and swallow the pill. (Half teaspoon only. More is not better in this case.)

The baking soda water will eliminate your heartburn in about 15 seconds, and last long enough (an hour or so) for the pill to take effect for long term relief.

I do this usually twice a day, sometimes up to four times if I'm going crazy with chili and tequila. It works.

look for long term remedies..
zantac great for fixing, but not prevention.
you need stuff like yoghurt, raw vegetables etc.

I came to that crossroads many years back, and decided that, if living without chronic perpetual heartburn meant eating like a hippie tree-hugging rabbit, then it wasn't worth living.

To this day I eat chili, enchiladas, nachos, habanero peppers, salami, lots of red meat, pizza, everything covered in Tabasco, drink tequila, etc...
So called "long-term prevention" is highly overrated. I can control my heartburn as I need to and eat what I choose. That's all that matters.

Yep. Same happens to me. Although, as I get older. More than just LC does it now.

I wasted my time for around a year trying those Tums and Rolands or whatever. Then after a post on GFY a year or so back, I took BV advice and started taking that Prilosec OTC. Works lovely.... especially early evening before bed.

One down side for me I have found, ... it raises my blood pressure. I can tell the days I have taken it, especially when I have been working a few hours and then stand up and move around. So I have to take it, and a baby aspirin to counter act that.

Good luck champ.

err, i had been suffering from extreme heartburns until i learned what my metabolism doesnt tolerate ... there are certain chemicals (some called "like nature") in fast food (and deep freeze or other food) that can turn yer tummy upside down ... major problem can be "milk sugar" (lactosis in english i think) ... you can narrow it down if you read product ingredients closely ... but then, when in USA, you might be fucked coz the FDA cares a shit about labelling food correctly FUCK THE FDA AND MONSANTO!

I also havelived with chronic heartburn for the last 30 years.

Baking soda does work for instant relief.
So does tums or rolaids.
Tums is better for you (100% calcium carbonate) where as rolaids has aluminum in them (or used too)

I have used all the others and they do work.

zantac
pepcid
and a couple others, over the counter formulas

they all work but you might have to take more than 1

once prilosec otc came out, i quickly tried it and it worked much better than the others and I only had to take 1 every 24 hours

if i eat a lot of garbage carbs like cakes, cookies chocolate, stuff like that, i might have to take 2, but i wont have heartburn for a long time

the only one i havent tried (and is just recently available in OTC) is nexium

but the prilosec seems to work great

I think carbs are the main culprit for me (and being overweight)

Because several years ago I did the low carb diet and instantly i noticed no heartburn and no gas

I could cheat and eat some cookies and bam i would feel bloated , have heartburn, and fart up a storm

I have no problem eating hot spicy foods, even jalapenos, they don't cause heartburn near as bad as sugar carbs and having a gut.

Do you drink a lot of coffee or soda? That mixed with tums / and your baking soda can cause kidney stones. Switching to prilosec / zantac would be better for your kidneys.

BTW, its good to see you back.

I get it occasionally, usually the morning if I've drank too much wine the night before.

Stay away from acidic foods.

The best cure I've found which is all natural, is Umeboshi. Luckily my Japanese lady always has some in the fridge.

Apple cider vinegar is also a surprisingly good cure, it causes an alkaline reaction in your body and works fast - take a few desert spoons of it.

Long term - forget pills, improve your diet. You really DON'T want to be reliant on pills all your life to get by.

Actually I think it's Prevacid that just became available on OTC. I used to have pretty bad heartburn until I started using Nexium, which is absolutely amazing.

its too bad that severe heartburn does actual physical damage. you shouldn't let 'food stereotypes' have such an impact on your health. it doesn't mean you can't eat what you enjoy as well.

I do enjoy coffee and soda both, but not in any kind of excessive quantities. But I never touch any kind of Tums or Rolaids. Only use the sodium bicarbonate & water when it's really bad, but stick pretty much to the equivalent of zantac. (generic zantac).

Prilosec worked very well too, I just can't remember to take a pill religiously every day like that and so I kept falling out of the zone with it. That's it's downfall. Takes too long to build up to being effective, and if you miss a day or two, you gotta start over.

Nah, they don't impact me. I like salads and yogurts and all that. I stereotyped them here myself just to sort of hammer in a point that many people don't realize: You don't have to stop eating normal food regardless of what rumors / horror stories you hear. Unless your doctor tells you to stop eating cheese or you'll be dead in a week, or something like that.

Of course, if there's something in particular that triggers severe reactions or heartburn then you might want to consider staying away from it for the sake of not punishing yourself. For me, that's wine. If I drink a glass of wine, in 5 minutes I'll be gasping for air and have heartburn so bad I can taste the stomach acid.
