Steele, who offers to track and ID infringers, as well as pursue damages against infringers on a contingency basis, told XBIZ that piracy has set the industry back substantially.

'I don't like piracy," he said. "I think that if left unchecked, the file sharers are going to set back this industry 20-30 years. Why should studios spend money for huge productions, when there are those who get it for free.'"

from what i understand, it's easier to go after the large group in a torrent than it is to go after the individuals on rapidshare or tube. the lawyer can still got after them but it can cost up to $5K to get one uploader's info, only to find out he lives in another country and there's nothing you can do to him.

the same thing can happen with torrent users but there's a greater chance of catching US infringers.

I'm not sure that anything is impossible. It might not be possible today (and I don't know that for fact either), but that doesn't mean that changes won't happen rather quickly to change that and make it very, very possible.

It shouldn't matter what kind of company it is. If they own the intellectual property and someone downloaded (stole) it for free then that someone deserves to get sued, as does the owner or owners of the site that facilitated the theft.

During the end of the 1990's and the beginning of the 2000's was when the MOST scamming online in adult was ever done. It was called "dialers" That shit outright stole hundreds and thousands of dollars from each surfer without them ever knowingly buying anything.

And yet...RECORD sales across the board.

Porn always sells and sells big...that is until you give it all away for free.

That's not the "industry" failing itself. That's just plain out stealing and destroying our business.

No industry on the face of this Earth could withstand having their own product stolen from them, given out to millions and millions of people. And survive.

People aren't running to pirate sites because they are scared they might get charged an extra $30 for a membership they didn't know was tacked onto the one that they bought....they are going there because it's FREE.

I own a corvette, a prowler, and a jeep. I have them all paid off. They are mine. But you know what...if they had been offered for FREE I wouldn't have paid one thin dime for any of them.

I like to read. I pay for every book I read. But if they were free I would just do like everybody else.

I've never paid for porn because I've worked in the biz, however if I had to I would likely NEVER pay for it simply based on what I've seen in the members areas of most of the top sponsors here, and in adult period.

Part of my service was building members area layouts, and populating some areas and the basic business model for 10 years was get them to pay, get them in the members area, where there's basically fuckin' nothing, and then try to upsell them again cause you know they are converting surfers.

"Oh hey, thanks for the $49, here's a bunch of other sites with next to nothing in them for another $45 you can sign up for, and hey, after you sign up for that we're gonna charge your card for $199 in hidden cross sales and all sorts of other crooked shit"

This biz has driven itself into the ground basically because 85% of porn webmasters are absolute retards with no business sense or ethics whatsoever, and most made some easy money back in the day... when in "real life" they'd not be suited to work at Mcdonalds. What you're going to see is all those retards back at Mcdonalds like they should be as the industry gets worse.

The porn sites that actually offered something in their members areas convert to this day I'm sure, even with a hit from the tubes.

Also, torrent porn aren't the damn problem, I mean really ? Download for 2 hours when you can hit a tube site and jerk off that minute (for hours)? come on.
