If someone is crazy enough to come at you with a deadly weapon, when you are holding a gun on them, and you have already used a taser on them, then you need to shoot. Only in the movies does it take one shot to put someone down. If you do not hit them in the heart or the head, then it takes on average 4 shots of .45, or 7 shots of 9mm to lower the blood pressure enough to take a determined attacker down. I'm not totally defending the cop here, but it's not a clear cut situation the other way either.

I'm not one of those "fuck the cops" people, like some around here -- but that cop was not under threat of being attacked at that moment. Also, he has a dog with him, which could have probably handled the situation without killing the guy. That was murder, straight up.

They pull over my Mexican brother in law, for no reason at all, and put him in the backseat with windows up and turn on the HEATER to the max, and leave him in there while they question his wife. Always knew that the US cops are cowardly. In my country the guy would be just a slightly beaten and arrested. An officer who opening a fire to kill (not to just shoot one of his legs) would be sued for unwarranted use of weapon.

May be our police is too crazy and corrupted, but not such cowardly for sure. They won't shoot to kill if they can catch the guy alive (a three-foot metal bar is not a firearm).

I think things like this happen to cops who are scared of their own shadow. You better be a fucking man to do this job. Not saying I could do it, but every guy doing this work should be able to handle a nutcase with a blunt object without shooting him 10 times.

Exactly! I don't know why but this scene is so typical for the US cops only. Why this doesn't happen that often in other countries? Is that something in the air of in the food there? Something that makes you cowardly and sadistic?

I just think "threat of being struck by a metal object" isn't enough to take someone's life, especially when you have the backup of other officers and a canine. I know its easy to say from behind a keyboard, but these guys should be trained to handle a situation like this without bullets, and have the guts to take a hit or two. It's like they can't be even be breathed on or they'll shoot.

Less than 1% of the world population can take a full face pepper spray and wipe it away and then try and attack the sprayer.

That escalated the situation from Force to Deadly force. The cop with the dog did the right thing.

To release the dog would have gotten him hurt or killed and the bad guy most likely would still have been dangerous.

The second shooter will be reviewed. But from that video " He was getting Back Up " and the second shooter is covered as well.

Result: The crazy guy was arrested. No one has died. And that was still considered as a police brutality! Compare it with the USA.

I counted eleven shots over more than two minutes before that guy decided he'd had enough.
When someone is rushing at you (or your partner) with a weapon, they don't automatically drop instantly just because they have a small hole in them.
Very rarely, a bullet might severe the spinal cord or certain parts of the brain and in that case they'll drop, but in the vast majority of cases pepper spray works a lot quicker than a 9mm round does. A pistol bullet is only about as big around as a ball point pen. Consider if someone jabs a pen into your leg. Do you really think that even all hopped on on drugs your leg would instantly become completely useless because it had a pen sized hole in it? Not likely. After you bleed for thirty minutes, sure you'll be down then.

Nope they don't. It's not the "Red Heat" movie. However they won't kill just like american cops do. If there is a chance to unarm someone without killing, they use it. Once again, they can be very rude, they can throw you on the asphalt and kick you, but don't shoot and don't kill.

I always told that Russian police is very corrupted and brutal. But not that much as the US one. Watch this thread - even being high, Russian cops don't shoot everyone (kissing a passerby woman's hand - yes, shooting - no)

I do remember only a few cases of fatal shooting against unarmed (the one w/o firearms in their hands) people. All these cases were resulted into a prison time for the police officers (the last one I know was resulted in a life sentence in the Black Dolphin prison).

I don't necessarily disagree. My post was about ballistics, not policy. Another try with the taser and some pepper spray might have been appropriate. On the other hand, "being struck with a metal object", the crowbar, might easily have resulted in the cop being blind the rest of his life, maybe killed, whatever, so I'm not too terribly upset that the aggressor was taken out before he did real damage to anyone. I'm not making a statement about that.

My point is that although another try with the taser might be appropriate or other tactics might be appropriate, going for a Hollywood non-lethal shot to a moving joint is never the right move. The odds against making that shot to drop him instantly without killing him are about 50,000 to 1. Maybe the cop could have jumped on the bad guy from behind, whatever. Trying to hit the one inch area of his knee that counts, while he's rushing another officer, would have been dumb . Nobody trained with firearms would ever try it. That kind of bullseye is quite rare on a suspect sitting still holding a hostage being shot by a sniper with a rifle and high powered scope. With a pistol and moving target - only in the movies.
