Is Anyone Else A Health Freak ?

OK so here's the back story... for 40 odd years I have been a FAT BASTARD ! I was a fat baby, I was a fat kid, a fat teen, and a fat man... At my peak I was 23 stone (I know thats quite light by USA standards)

In my life I have never smoked, drunk or taken drugs... yes I know quite boring... Anyways about 8 years ago (I would guess) I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetis... and told that the one vice I love, FOOD... was now a no go, well certainly the food I liked the most...

So for 7 years plus I basically ignored this and eat food that would of put most Diabetics in the ground... I am sure I have done some mighty damage to my body internally... However following two health scares, firstly my yearly eye check showing some minor changes behind my eye... and then a ectopic heart beat over Christmas, I am now commited to changing my life...

I have actually turned into a bit of a health nut... I start my day with a green tea, I also have porridge with super fruits (blueberries and cranberries) in it, and also drink POM which is pommigranite (probably spelt that wrong) I am not eating any of the crap cakes, biscuits and sweets like I used to... snacking was definitly a issue...

I take a lot of suppliments including 4 different Amino Acids... I also take Acai, Aloe Vera, and Ginger Root... and plan to phase in more, each which is supposed to help with Diabetis in some shape or form...

I am also drinking a 10 day Detox drink, which I have to say is the worse thing I have ever tasted in my life... it tastes like death !

I'm currently the lowest weight I have been for as long as I can remember, 16 stone 12 pound when I weighed in 2 weeks ago... I am training at a nice gym with both resistance and interval training... it's early days as this is only week 4 since I started... and of course for me this needs to be a life long change... I know if I go back to my old ways I run the risk of going blind, a heart attack, a stroke or losing my limbs... all things that effect Diabetics (well more so that normal people)

So as any one else got Diabetis ? as anyone else had to make a massive change in their lifestyle due to health issues ? I know this isn't really porn related, but just interested to hear any one's story in a similar position... compare notes maybe

Well Im not sure how much a stone weighs but it sounds like you are off to a pretty fair start.

Start walking every day 7 days a week. Short walks to start and then make them longer. ONce they get longer you can cut out a few days. Take it slow and easy for a while. ( 3 months ) and then start to pick up the pace. Just walking, and watching what you eat will shed the pounds.

Also start to cut back on Carbohydrates. More protein and cut out as much fat as you can but does not have to be 100% lean. Limit the carbs don't cut them out.

And not matter what anyone says here, follow your DR's advice first.

Oh, and good luck. Hope this sticks and you caught it all in time.

That Pom stuff tastes great but it's full of sugars. Fruit sugars, i know but it still is sugar.
I wouldn't drink any juices if i was you.

whoa.. cutting carbohydrates is all good but you don't cut fats out at the same time unless you like protein poisoning or irritable bowel syndrome.. dietary fats do not turn into fats in the body, they are essential for proper bodily function and people who cut them are doing it wrong and unhealthy.. OH and doctors? KNOW FUCK ALL ABOUT NUTRITION! Do your own research, it is available if you look!


I was overweight about 8 months ago and went from about 35% body fat to about 15% now by eating a diet consisting of mostly fats. 65/30/5 fats/proteins/carbs. Of course a lot of my fats come from some healthier sources ie nuts, seeds, oils etc I still get a share of saturated fats from meats as well without problems.

Fruit is good for you sure.. but it hinders weight loss, so until you get to your weight loss goal i would limit it to later in the evening on days where you got some exercise in and definitely don't over do it.. A handful here and there is perfectly fine, a bowlful? wont be losing weight that day.. too many sugars. Whey has more complete antioxidants than any fruit anyway. Do that and green vegetables instead.

nobody here reads more on this stuff than I do ;)

Do you think 2 medium size bananas in the morning tossed into my spinach (or kale) green smoothie is too much sugar? I can drink the hell out of some green veggies but need a little fruit in there to make it consumable.

i have advanced type 1 diabetes. i didn't read anything in your post about you monitoring/maintaining your sugar levels.

what's your approach to that?

i have no diabetes, but i follow a diabetic person diet, keeps your glycemic levels very low and your body becomes a furnace for fat burning, ive changed from 26% body fat (2011) to my current 14% body fat. Its not hard, you just need to get used to it. you will feel extremely good after you start having a healthy life. just dare to change



P.S: for those worrying about adding fruit to your diet, dont be affraid on eating fruit, i mean if you're changing soda pop, candy and ice cream for fruit, trust me, you wont get fat. If you made lets say a carrot juice, using 20 carrots, then the carb amount will be significant, but justby eating two raw carrots, nothing will happen.. eat the veggies, toss the processed shit

i am soo tired of low carb advice. yeah, atkins & south beach work...temporarily. they are not meant to be lifestyle changes, only temporary measures to cut weight. south beach transitions you back to carbs after a few weeks.

& one can eat fruit, but it is best to eat it along with a protein or fat or low glycemic carbs, so your stomach combines the sugar with the other nutrients when it enters your bloodstream, thereby keeping your blood sugar from spiking. eating just fruit as a snack, i would agree is counterproductive to blood sugar levels & weight loss efforts. But fruit should be consumed in moderation because they contain essential vitamins & antioxidants.

a balanced diet, with an emphasis on low glycemic carbs, fiber, unsaturated fats, is the best lifestyle. the key is calorie management, & eating healthy foods you enjoy.

I would say drinking a bad tasting cleanse does nothing but turn you off to a healthier lifestyle. Fiber is a natural cleanser, so all the cleanse products is marketing & pissing money down the drain.

I highly suggest learning about nutrition a bit more, especially with that breakfast meal! Wheres the fats, where the protein!? Youre having a bowl of carbs with fruit (more carbs) then having fruit drinks (even more carbs!) What is your daily diet like?
