Got ya. I was just pointing out that it takes a lot of dedication to actually take your body to it's full genetic potential and get the maximum growth of every muscle on your body.

It's too much for me because it's not my thing. But I assure you...I'm just as badly obsessed with shooting our scenes and also playing music. So I do understand that mindset of thinking about it 24 hours a day.

I would guess that for a serious pro-bodybuilder making top dollar...that you would have to be in that "zone" 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
There's only room for a relative handful of people at the top.

Your buddy who "abused steroids" wasn't even in the same league as the pro bodybuilders. As I was saying earlier...they have a team of doctors who measure out their supplements, meals, and anabolic steroids for optimal growth and health all the while testing every day for any negative effects and taking actions to keep that under control.

None of us normal folks (like your buddy) could ever afford to do what the IFBB pro's do.
Just like none of us can afford to train like a top NFL star, etc.

So yeah, I can see how your guy could have tried to get to their level...and then failed. It just isn't possible for a person to do that on their own.

Lots of guys do however get really big and really ripped without a team. Just by taking testosterone and the correct anabolics along with hard workouts and proper diet.
The guys right here in Vegas at Chippendales at The Rio, or "Thunder Down Under" at Excalibur are good examples of being big and chiseled and still living a "normal" life.

EDIT: Fifty "fat ass" webmasters and twink OP's

Bullshit. Your friend must not be eating right or working hard in the gym.

3 Months is enough time to put on 10 solid pounds of muscle if you do it correctly. ESPECIALLY if you're skinny and just started training.

That's not necessarily true. Everyone has a different physiology.
You are right that a lot of people would indeed have that initial jump before hitting a plateau.

But not everybody. Me, for instance.

I was 135 pounds at 6 feet tall until I was 34 years old. My metabolism is so high that it is very difficult to put on weight and muscle. I'm what is known in bodybuilding as a "hard gainer".

To get my initial boost I had to start taking tons of supplements and drinking 4,000 calory weight gainer shakes on top of eating 4 times a day.

It took me almost 2 years to get to 155 pounds

And another 3 years to hit 200.

Now I hover around 210 for the last 10 years. But getting my body to get to this point took years.

Funny, I've noticed that there are a lot of gay men into body building here in the Bay Area.

I've played sports most of my life, but I've never really been into weightlifting.

I'm happy staying reasonably fit with tennis and other aerobic activities.

Well, whats the correct way? And like Robbie said, it depends on factors, for instance me - I can not put that much weight, my weight is always the same, does not matter if I eat lots and lots of food (junk or healthy), does not matter if I go to gym 3 times/week. Weight does not grow without supplements (at least protein shake and similar stuff). And its not only me, like 5 friends of mine that were skinny. In fact the only friends that got results were the ones that had some fat on them - they turned that fat into muscle. But those that were skinny - they got in better shape, but not much additional weight. Except 2-3kg that you gain very quick when you just start the gym. But after that even after 12 months its hard to gain extra 2-3kg. Its just not that simple.

Thats really skinny. I am 6 feet and 150 pounds and I am considered pretty skinny. Anyway my situation is similar - I could not put extra 10 pounds in like 24 months going to the gym. It just was not happening.
If I used supplements - that would be other story, however it was not happening in a clean way. It would be a dream that I could put on 10 pounds in 3 months easily as someone said. Actually it would be a dream if I could put on 10 pounds in 12 months. But it is not happening without supplements.

proper diet.
Huge guys that can afford to have the 12+ hours of sleep a day and the biggest wallets grow the biggest because they are often the dealers. People with real jobs cannot eat sleep train and afford growth hormones etc. Mr Olympia without Steroids Sean Connery looks a bit different to Arnold Schwarzenegger and if your not using then your a weights trainer not really a body builder. Gregg Valentino has spend over a million on juice. I know many guys that you would question whether they do roids or not that don't but the supplements available will never offer the gain that is rife in the game. Sure their are natural competitions but they have nothing on the roid boys.

Jesus, wish I had that problem. I've never been a fat ass, but always struggled to be a skinny bloke. No big gut or anything like that, hovered around 120 or so kg so what around 270lbs? Now down to 220lbs and feel like a skinny little kid.

That'll do. As long as she cooks up a meal like Paula Deen after my nap upon her mammaries.
