EU Shows Menu Prep

Im stoked for the shows later this month. Given it will be my first time in the EU, (London, Amsterdam, Prague), I'm looking for recommendations on what local delicacies I should make it a point to try or vice-versa, avoid like the plague. Thoughts?

Do you break the yolk and mix it in? Or eat it sort of as is?

What part of the cow is the beef from?

You mix it, together with salt, pepper, mustard etc.. then you get toasted bread with olive oil and garlic and rub the garlic over the bread and then put the meat on there and add raw onions.

I just had it and it was delicious

(and i have no idea but it's usually relatively lean)

Usually served with toast points. Rub the raw garlic on the toast and spread the tartare on it. Tartare is usually made with the cuts from the loin. I had an excellent one in Prague at a restaurant called Argument. Right up there with the best versions I've ever had. And the price was insanely cheap for the quality.

That sounds really nice. Have you ever tried making it at home? Is the quality of the beef the key?

Many times with just regular minced beef.

Fresh filet minced yourself only makes it even better.

At least here we do something similar with salmon. But tuna works too, raw tuna is one of my favorites

I couldn't care less if you agree with me.

Regardless of that, as a business owner paying thousands of dollars to send people halfway across the planet to do business it makes zero sense test one's digestion capabilities and immune system on my business account on a dish that isn't even a local dish

ok - once you have people that you send halfway across the planet to do business let us know

meanwhile I answered the OPs question and let me assure you that my digestive system today is totally fine after 150 grams of Tatarak last night

would have taken a picture if i had known that foreign food is such a sensitive issue for you - i suspect you travel with your own supply of beef jerky and water sanitation tablets?

Personal and business insults over a meal choice based on shit you make up, I'm not surprised this sort of vitriol coming from madalton. And no, you didn't answer the op question, steak tartare is french dish.

I am relaxed. Youre the one making insults, not me. I never claimed food in cz is shitty. I stated I advised against eating raw food in a foreign country. If you knew what you were discussing you would understand the issues I am basing my views on.

I'm absolutely not making insults just sharing personal experience... but that of course is subjective...

You mean the same like how schnitzel is a typical German dish, but as well, although they call it different, typically Italian?

I don't see why, if the quality of the product and the hygene standards of a country are similar, you would not advice someone to eat that there... if the only abnormal factor appears to be "location".

1.making sweeping generalizations about American food in its entirety based on a few meals is an attempt to insult. you're the one making comparisons between countries, not me.

2. no, not like shcnitzle. the Op asked for local delicacies, in most all circles that means food that is unique and original to that locale.

3. again, my advice was to avoid raw meat and eggs on an international business trip. it's beyond ludicrous to risk business goals to eat raw meat and eggs that are not even the local delicacy.

"hey, how many deals did you close on the $5000 business trip i sent you on?

"none, i was in my $400 a night hotel room throwing up and shitting the entire time because i didn't know i can't eat raw meat and eggs."

"you're fired."

it's not my problem you and what's his face can't see the business angle on that.

Yes this is true, but many countries have adopted a variation of it as a regional dish. A few other Czech specialties that you can also find in other countries that I'd highly recommend:

Potato pancakes
Goulash
Roast with cream sauce

But tartare is just on another level. After steak, tuna is my favourite. I used to be disgusted with the idea of eating raw meat but wow, the taste says it all!

As silly as it sounds, I'm most excited for Amsterdam because of all the amazing Thai restaurants they have. Best Thai food I've ever had was in Thai Phutakun in the city center.

I honestly can't name a traditional Dutch food... brownies? Does that count?

Ok then... having 30 days of shit meals must have been coincidence then... Must be the size of your country then... the bigger the country the bigger the coincidences... Again... it's personal experience... not insulting...

Maybe... before continueing a useless discussion... OP needs to state what he means with local delicacies.

"visiting a foreign country" was the factor... You should have said:
"i strongly advise against eating raw hamburger and raw eggs while on a business-trip.

The risk of getting sick from that food is just as small as getting sick from other food.
If you really want to avoid all risks at a businesstrip to not fuck up a businesstrip you better not go on a businesstrip and stay home...

Argument has some great food, sad that the portions just keep getting smaller

but tartare in CZ is great, a decade ago nobody had good steaks, but everyone had awesome steak tartare, guess they used it all for tartare, none left for steaks

the Czechs have a great one, never made me ill
in Belgium it's called filet americain, and is very different from the French one, I actually think most people will prefer the Belgian version

if you like duck, have it in Prague: Roast duck (pečená kachna)

or if you're really hungry: Pečené vepřové koleno which is roast pork knee or knuckle
1-1.5kg

the lamb is also really good at most places

According to this cz site, they're the same. http://www.labuznik.cz/recept/pravy-tatarak-steak-tartare/

Nevertheless, of course there are variations and of course many are delicious. But its not a local delicacy as the op was asking for and i still stnd behind my advice to avoid eating raw meat, eggs, on international business trips.

you found the recipe in Czech for making the original French way of tartar, the capers give it away

the way they make it it's local, because the French would never do it that way

escalope didn't originate in Italy, but every Italian will say it's local

or chocolate mousse is also originally French, but the country you must try it... Portugal, they consistently have the best ones if you walk into a random restaurant and every restaurant will have it.

But in the end what does it fucking matter where it originated from, if locals have been making it well for decades????

was at FoodParade food festival yesterday, the dish the most restaurants had was.... tartar my favorite was a duck breast tartar with foie

whether to eat raw meat on international trips is something everyone needs to decide for themselves

The entire country of France would never ever make it that way? Stop making things up.

Because the op asked advice for local delicacies which traditionally means original, unique and authentic to the locale and i gave my recommendation on that. That's why it fucking matters.

advice is a recommendation, of course everyone needs to decide for themselves, i wasn't making a demand. The op already took my advice.

If tatare was the most common food at a random food festival, it certainly is not a unique local delicacy from cz.

PS you have a bit of duck breast tartare foie on your chin there. Here's a napkin.

unique.... then almost nothing, because if you would know Europe only a tiny bit, you would know that many countries also share a certain type of kitchen and dishes. Goulash was invented in Hungary, but every country around it has their own version of goulash, btw when most people think goulash what they have in mind is more like the Czech or Slovak version then the original Hungarian version

so according to your logic don't try goulash or sausages (which r 100% local), because they originally came from Hungary or Germany.
Also current country borders were not the same as they were 200 years ago, hell countries might not even have existed back then.

now I'm done with this bullshit of wasting time on trolls, sadly that seems to be the only shit going on on GFY these days

to the op: you can listen to people who live in a certain country or know it very well, or second option listen to somebody who's probably never been to that country.

anyways enough time wasted, plenty of work to finish before the shows start, stupid to waste on people who I'll probably never meet at any show
