A cbp canine team searched the truck, and officers opened the false floor compartment to find 400 packages of narcotics — an estimated $3.5 million worth of fentanyl and $1.1 million worth of methamphetamine.

“this represents the largest fentanyl seizure in cbp history,” said humphries, standing beside armed cbp officers and a table stacked with dope.

Hundreds of pounds of fentanyl and methamphetamine were seized by customs and border protection officers over the weekend at the nogales port of entry in arizona. (mamta popat/ap)
the fentanyl, 50 times more potent than heroin, had been placed in hard plastic containers, apparently to avoid any potential exposure to cbp officers. The drug is considered so deadly that officers no longer cut open the suspected drug packets they seize at the border, aware that even a few salt-sized grains of the drug can be harmful.

“one kilogram of fentanyl produces 1 million fatal doses,” said juan mariscal, the assistant special agent in charge of immigration and customs enforcement’s investigative unit in nogales, who described the bust as part of a wider investigation.

i just saw on either cbs or abc they did a special and there was one part of the border where they caught something like 57,000 illegals crossing over. Most of these border patrol agents want the wall.

And it's just not drugs, it's hordes of criminal illegals coming over popping out anchor babies and draining our system dry.

This is not true at all. It's a matter of cost vs effectiveness. A wall around someone's house might cost $40k and would be very effective because wants to get in so bad that they are willing to tunnel under it. However, spending a trillion dollars on a wall where people will in fact tunnel under it wouldn't be effective or cost efficient at all.

90% of the drugs comes right through those along with the immigrants. There's no possible way to find it all. Too many people. Too much traffic.

in fiscal year 2016, the latest year for which complete data is available, there were 170,000 successful illegal border crossings occurring outside of authorized ports of entry.

let´s assume that around 20% of them were smuggelt in cars or via ship we are talking about aproximately 130.000 per year (of wich most a caught later)

let´s say a wall would prevent the half of them crossing the south border that does not mean that they don´t come - but they change the way to come in.

so maybe the wall can prevent again 30% of this 130.000 - what are roughly 40.000

the costs of the wall plus yearly maintaining 5 billion per year over the next 10 years
5 billion ./. 40.000 = $ 125.000 per single person that will POSSIBLY not enter THERE.

somehow it is not astonishing that most of these wall friends do not achieve anything in business simply because they have not understood the cost/benefit calculation

We put walls and other barriers up where they tend to cross. In other areas, we use other methods. We need border security where the problem is - the ports of entry where the drugs comes through - and not in places where there is no illegal activity.

Truth be known, the latest method in volume is using drones to deliver them across the border. Virtually undetectable at the correct altitude. And no, I'm not speaking of the multi-rotor helicopter variety because the range is to short. These are virtually scaled down Cessna's under radio control, all electric and in some cases, fully autonomous and almost unstoppable using jamming techniques.
Can travel more than 10 miles one way.

Everyone should know if you stop one method, it's not the only method and it is a never ending battle where mostly what you do is spend lots of money chasing a small percentage of drug traffic. This is not the way to fight this battle.
Think about it some.... it's your tax dollars.

Virtually undetectable at the correct altitude. And no, I'm not speaking of the multi-rotor helicopter variety because the range is to short. These are virtually scaled down Cessna's under radio control, all electric and in some cases, fully autonomous and almost unstoppable using jamming techniques. Can travel more than 10 miles one way. Everyone should know if you stop one method, it's not the only method and it is a never ending battle where mostly what you do is spend lots of money chasing a small percentage of drug traffic. This is not the way to fight this battle. Think about it some.... it's your tax dollars.
