$5,500 seems a lot for a transmission no? Sucks that it happened that way, I had a vehicle's rear end go out on me 3 days after warranty and they wouldn't cover it.

20 days out raise a fuckin fuss over it. Keep asking to talk to someone superior. They can get it approved to do it under warranty. Just keep telling them how you will never buy a car from them again, will spread the word about the issue to everyone, that you are an internet marketer and will cost them 500 times that if they don't work with you on it. Pick up at least 3/4 of the cost, something. Don't lay down and take that shit.

Ignore Sticky's stupid ideas. Don't start out threatening anyone or throwing a fit, it's just fucking stupid.

Call the head office for the car manufacturer for your area. So if it was a Chevvy and you live in Tampa FL call GM USA. You get the picture. Be polite and explain the situation. They absolutely have the power to cover it under "good will" and they probably will but don't start off being confrontational.

Ill add to that. Get it in writing they are going to cover it under warranty. Otherwise they could just say it, fix your car and hold it ransom until you pay.

As someone who worked in dealerships for ten years try this.
Go to the dealer and ask for good will they may cover 50%
If that does not work ask for there customer service 1 800 number they may not want to give it to you but they all have one.
Ask to have a claim opened and see what they will do from there.
Last resort threaten to take it to the BBB or if you have an advocate in the news paper threaten to go there and any other consumer group you can find.
You should easily be able to get covered for at least 50% or more.
Good luck with it

Really? You ever worked in a dealership? I managed a body shop in a dealership, and know EXACTLY what motivated the dealership to honor expired warranty claims. Especially in todays market they don't want to do something that the actual cost for them will be maybe 30% of what they quoted to do the job, and risk losing multiple 20 to 40k vehicle sales. The customers that came in and were all zen and nice were normally told nothing could be done, and sent away. If he bought the vehicle at that dealership and his salesman is still there he bought it from, that is the first person to go talk to. Why? Because that salesman lives more off commissions than he does off their normal draw. That salesman wants that next commission off a customer he has built a relationship from the previous sale.

That salesman also might be able to offer you a killer deal on a brand new vehicle and give him the same trade in value that he would of if the transmission was fine. It is a 2005 4 years old, and is out of warranty. If that is a viable option it might be the way to go, because this is just the beginning of repair issues.

Option 2 is goto a non dealership transmission shop and get the repair done for probably less than 1200.00

But unless you worked at a dealership and know how things work dont tell me my advice is shitty. Fucking believe me if it was me I would get the transmission replaced under warranty and a free detailing done before I drove it back off the lot for being inconvenienced, then being giving an outlandish quote of 5500.00.

But Im sure you know better. I only worked in the auto industry for close to 13 years.

When was the last time you had a transmission replaced?

Its 4000$ to replace the tranny in our Ford Escape, most newer vehicles will have similar, outrageous prices. I couldnt even find a used one for less then 3000.

The last time i was at a Nissan dealership, some lady was getting her car fixed. Whatever she was fixing, the waranty expired 2 days in advance. She got real angry and created a huge fuss for over 10 minutes - the dealership didn't give a fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. "oh well, too bad, here's how much it's going to cost"

With cars all running off a computer chip these days its no wonder they mysteriously break VERY soon after the warranty is up. Its only obvious.

Actually I was a service advisor for jaguar, mercedes benz, land rover, acura. Did it for almost ten years. Calling corporate and going insane is the way to go to get action. Especially if the deal did all the services. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Actually if your service advisor was worth a shit he should be approaching his service manager to make the call for you if you have gotten all your services thru them. you should have to pay little to nothing thats bullshit.
Also when talking to corporate if you belong to any orgs let them you will tell anybody who stands still long enough what a piece of garbage car nissan makes.

1700.00 for a used one from a quick look online for that vehicle. At less than 60 per hour labor cost, and around a 6 to 8 hour job (if that) Id say he could get it done for much less than 3k. Shop around folks. Personally after doing some reading on that particular model I would dump it and get someone new. Seem a lot of them had issues with the Radiator leaking into the transmission. And that seems to be one of the major causes for the transmission failures. No recalls that I could find though.

Listen to you idiots that go right off the hook right away.

If you start off nice and polite, you always have the option to get heated later. This opens up the possibility of having someone help you out because they want to as opposed to because you yelled at them.

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, and if you start off with the honey you can always change to vinegar later.

I had an engine replaced 6 months out of warranty because I called the Warranty people, and explained the situation. They agreed that the damage most _probably_ had started inside the warranty period even if the complete break down didn't happen until 6 months later. They covered the whole thing, and I got a 1 year warranty on the new engine they put in. Didn't have to yell, didn't have to scream.

Idiots.

Price is because you are getting it done at the dealership?

I have a 1998 Jeep I bought for $8000 in 2003. Still going just as strong as the first day I bought it. Same with my 1998 Suburban I bought in 2005 for $8800...

Why people by new cars I don't know.. You like giving people your money?

You need to STFU. Your logic and reason regarding the situation is not acceptable and will result in you being mocked by people who claim to know more than you through 'experience'.

maybe its changed but when I worked in the auto industry.for one car line the dealer I worked for was number 2 in CSI for service in the country. The pain in the ass customer got covered more often then the nice one. Idiots ? when you call names it makes your argument look weak and therefore the need to call names.

Idiots.
I have a GREAT relationship with my mechanics. My guy in Parksville loves me, because I used to give him a ton of business from friends and family. So we all got VERY VERY good prices. He was very fair, because I was a nice, friendly easy to work with guy who helped him grow his business.

Same with my current guy in CA. I have to take my bmw in on tuesday and he is checking the entire thing and replacing the part for $90. The BMW dealer quoted me $800. Why is my guy giving me such a good deal? I'm easy to work with and give him business.

I always get a second opinion, sometimes a third. But the people I keep relationships with ALWAYS offer a better price, better service and continue to surprise me. The CA mechanic has thrown in so much extra stuff. For example I took an older car in for an oil change and he noticed a tail light was out and I had a dent in my hood. He fixed both for no cost.

If the first time I went in I was a dick and demanded all sorts of freebies etc - he would never do that sort of thing.

not the same thing a small guy is not the same as dealing with corporate or a dealership. If his service advisor quoted him $5500 for tranny on car 20 days out they are already dicks.A car 20 days out and he is a good customer and they did all the services they should of been on the phone with nissan asap.

Hush WarChild obviously knows more than people who dealt with it day in and day out for years and years. He after all got his engine replaced 6 months out of warranty AND a 1 year warranty on the new engine (oh wait they almost always give at least a 6 month to 1 year warranty on major warranty replacements) must of been cause he was so nice to the Service manager where he got it done.

It seems like Wtent already went in and was nice, and the niceness got him a 5500.00 quote for a transmission out of warranty only 20 days. Maybe he should bring them in some flowers next, they might slide a burning red hot poker up his ass for that niceness.

Listen you always start with the salesman that sold you the car first. If you have already talked to the service manager for the dealerships shop and he won't help you, you say " ok " then you go find your salesman. Normally the salesman will go "represent you" and see what he can get done. If that doesn't work you say, can I talk to the dealership owner please? They are not going to burn a loyal customer for a repair less than a month out of warranty, especially when you have been going there loyally to have the vehicle serviced also. You raise a fuss. Im not saying going in there and start screaming. Im saying you escalate things as needs warrant. Calling Nissan will get you shit. Normally the dealership owner is accessible to customers. Low level service managers are only going to tell you what is in their estimate books. They look at the retail cost on the Transmission, they look at their standard labor rates, and what the book tells them the job will require hour wise. There is an incredible amount of flexibility in all those numbers if its the choice of keeping a loyal customer or not.

So all I was saying is don't lay down on your stomach with a pillow under your lap and spread your cheeks. 20 days out is normally a very very very very easy thing to be overcome.

Actually calling corporate is a better chance of getting it taken care of. You call nissan , it goes to the field service manager in the area. He calls you, you tell him how upset you are you bought a nissan because they are reliable and this happened, you trusted it to noone but the dealer. Then the field guy calls the service manager and will ask about the service record. If its all there. he is going to do something especially since its 20 days out. The dealer is being a dick, the SA should of said we have a customer who did all his services with us and he is 20 days out and his tranny is gone. The service manager should of said either let me see the file or he looks it up on the computer. Because if he did everything with them, there then is a question did they fuck up. If there is none then he should be calling the FM asking for good will to cover it. Since they just told him $5500 they are dicks. Also going to the salesman is a waste because first off chances are he isnt there anymore or if he is unless you buy fleets of cars from him he doesnt give a shit.

uh huh. I only worked in the automotive industry exporting vehicles for 7 years. Oh, and had OMVIC dealer certification, as well as Chrysler & Ford CAP for electrical because we were swapping the speedo clusters and components out to comply with USA dealership standards for warranty.

I've forgotten more about cars and trucks than you will ever know.
