:tongue What do you Say to Waiters Who Actually ask you For Tips???

I tip 15% but once in a blue moon people ask for more or say something like:
Only $20?
Didn't you like the service?

????

I had a bar tender bitch that i didn't tip him enough. I told him hes an idiot if he thinks he deserves huge tips for turning around, removing beers from the fridge, opening them and handing me them.

Ditto here.

One time I had a waitress help herself to an extra $35 after being tipped over 20% on a birthday dinner. Bastard. I called the restaurant and got the $$ put back, but I read online that other people had been having the same issue at that restaurant for months. Never went back.

I always tip pretty well, but if someone asked for one I would tell them they just lost their tip. A tip is meant to be an indication of how much you appreciated the service not something they are entitled too.

I also don't pay the service charge (optional in the UK) as I prefer to tip the person direct.

And I agree with the Bar Staff tipping comment I used to manage a nightclub and we had girls walking out with £100+ in tips a night for serving drinks. Appreciate what you get if you get anything.

My mailman walks for hours everymorning to bring me my mail. He does way more work then the local bar person and he doesn't get fuck all from me for it

I'll tip 30% in Florida and about 10% in CA. No tip for shit service. Always tip the pizza guy a $5. I don't care if they ask for one so long as the service was worthy.

Very true.

I don't usually get pissed but when someone asks me for "free money" it brings out the Leo in me..Its not they're a homeless person without a job..

oh, and wait till you automatically get a 18% tip added to your bill (South Beach/Hollywood, FL), even if you are just a party of 2..in this case I'm not really complaining if you're service is 110% good and you're open and serving me hard-drinks till 6am, and then letting me bite your ass..

I tip 20% regardless....especially if I will be back to the same restaurant again in the future. I am born and raised in Las Vegas, so I'm used to tipping everybody for everything.

It's strange to me to go elsewhere, tip somebody and have them stare at me in shock because they're not used to it.

If somebody demanded a tip however, I'd tell them to fuck off. A tip is supposed to be for good service. At the same time, a person that gives you good service should be compensated for it. If you've never worked in the service industry, you might not understand that their livlihood is based on tips. When I was a busboy at 16, my hourly pay was about $3 an hour. If the tips weren't over $100 a night, I'd have never worked there.

Imagine being over 21, working in a restaurant with slow turnaround, having $30 checks all day, and relying on tips. It would be brutal.

tipping is such bullshit most of the time.

you bring me my fucking over priced food and drink and i have to pay you 15-20% on top of it?

if the waiter/waitress is exceptionally good, meaning I dont have to ask for a refill on drinks, they come back after the food is delivered to see how things are, then I have no problem with tipping but still 1/5th of the bill?

the worst is when you get shitty service, then they expect a tip. i had this kid once challenge me on the tip i left him at an Italian restaurant. probably the worst service I had in a sit down place... appetizers came out WITH the food (had him take them back), then had to have him remove them from the bill... had to ask two or three times for drinks, etc.

The bill came and it was about $60 (including a $25 dollar bottle of wine), so I tipped him $5 because I know not 100% goes to his pocket, but also bus boys, etc. We are leaving and he comes out and says "hey, you only left me $5 tip? what gives?" I had to explain to him why, then on top of that, he said "well our minimum is 15%, so..." I called for the manager to come over and he was kind enough to give me a $25 gift card which i promptly handed to another couple coming into the restaurant saying "here is $25 off, ill never come back here again"

if you expect to make a living off of a mall restaurant on a 4 hour shift then you are too fucking stupid to be alive.

If someone said "only $20" to me, I'd say "Oh, I'm sorry, let me see that." Tear a small strip off the end of the $20, keep the big part and say "there you go."

I tip based on the service. Normally 18% even though that's a regular fight with the wife because here the national average is 10%

1/56th of the bill sent to the treasury and they will send a replacement bill. Under certain circumstances that is.

I worked in the same place for my 10 years and I had customers that when they started coming tipped in the lower range. They were the same people that ended up leaving me a $20 tip even if they came in for 1 beer. Anyone that works in the service industry that expects to get tipped above average without putting in the effort doesn't deserve it. I had customers that as soon as they walked in the door their drink was on the bar already. I tend to over tip but if you give me shitty service you getting a shitty tip.

Generally I tip quite well (when the service is good or if the waitress has a great ass) - but if a waitress or bartender asked me for a tip I wouldn't mince words and just say, "A tip is for good service...maybe if I come here again and the service has improved...you'll get a tip."

If I get any lip after saying that, I'd reply with, "Fuck off, you audacious asshole."

Years ago I worked for a company delivering appliances, and I recall a delivery we did late on Christmas eve to a posh house on the outskirts of town. Upon arriving we discovered the stacker washer/dryer combo had to go up a circular metal staircase to the second floor. It took two of us over an hour to brute-force the appliance one step at a time up the staircase. Major back-breaking effort.

After we got it installed, we were just getting ready to leave when a pizza guy showed up at the customer's door. The homeowner paid for the pizza and gave the guy a $3 buck tip.
The customer thanked us for the delivery and showed us the door - without offering us a tip at all.

On Christmas eve, no less.

I never forgot that.

Tipping is the retardedest thing to hit a restaurant since 'special sauce'.

Nevertheless, I tip. I treat it as my own personal judgement on the performance of the waiter. If I was asked to tip more or even just asked to tip, I would rate that waiter at zero.

Once had a waitress come outside of the restaurant to ask where her tip was. The restaurant had been super busy and the waitress at one point said to us, "We don't have time for people like you today." We were in high school at the time and always knew to leave a tip but after she said that my friends and I were not going to leave her a tip.

I tip 20% every time UNLESS I received unsatisfactory service...you never know the life the person/server has had. Obviously they aren't doing too well off if they have to be a damn server. This could be their only job that they qualify for, and yes they understand what they are signing up for, but at the same time, whats a server to do? other than the norm?

this is the only way they make their money, out here at least, $couple dollar per hour + tips... I think a lot of you would say different if you were once a server...anyhow my anddddd back to work......(flipping burgers )

Around here the unionized postal carriers with Canada Post make $27/hr. with full benefit package. On average they work about 5-6 hours per day and get paid for a full eight.

No post-secondary or college needed - it's an unskilled job.

I know and talk with several of them, so I know this to be factual.

I can't put them in the 'deserving of a tip' category.

No one has ever said that to me. I generally tip well. If a waiter is horrible or an ass that is a different story. But if you ever decide to not tip or lowball I wouldn't go back.

If someone ever asked me for a bigger tip I would ask for the manager.

that's cool, i do.

they get paid well here and would have to go postal to lose their job.

that said, the $50 a year i give to my local carrier has dividends + it makes me feel good to give a gift to someone who is typically taken for granted, as you state, by the public.

I tip quite well, but I think it's getting a little out of control

this is the only way they make their money, out here at least, $couple dollar per hour + tips... I think a lot of you would say different if you were once a server...anyhow my anddddd back to work......(flipping burgers )
People don't work in the service industry because they are too stupid to do anything else. You can be stupid and work in the business but I guarantee your not going to do well at it. Everyone I worked with at my restaurant had a college degree, one had a double major and a few others had their masters.
Working in the right place can be a blast and very lucrative. I used to say my bar shifts were my social life only I was having fun and making money instead of blowing it. I would make between $1100 to $1250 a week and would have my whole day to do what I wanted with. Being a night person it was a great fit for me.

I tip well if they deserve it. I don't tip well if they don't deserve it.

Tipping everyone the same amount regardless of service is communist!

I had always heard that you needed over 50% of the bill intact and then you could exchange it at a bank for a new one.

I'm a European and I don't understand the tipping thing at all. I rarely tip. Most of the time I give 0%. From time to time I do tip if I do like the service. But why pay for a poorly cooked meal, just because they bring my dinner on time? And what about EXTREMELY poorly drafted beer? Shood I pay the waiter, who just walks up and down to get my beer 30%? I rather pay the manager a decent amount for his food than the waiter.

If you want to get paid well, try some education or some decent work.

I do that also. Its amazing because I will call to order and they will tell me 45 minutes and my doorbell will ring 20 minutes later. My pizza guy loves me.

communist would be not tipping at all - they still think its kind of suspicious over here when you tip - especially when you have americans that give $10 on a $2 beer and say "keep the change - but please turn around so i can see your ass" (i won't name any names here...lol)
