Get rid of your back pain now! I did.

On a whim, and some reading I did online, I gave up my chair on Thursday last week. I have been sitting on this for over 12 hours a day Friday, some on the weekend, and 12 hours today. Up until Thursday last week, I have had some pretty bad back pain and terrible posture from sitting in a chair for that many hours. My chair was pretty decent, but not one of those Herman Miller or anything. My back pain was so bad it was affecting my digestion. My doctor suggested I try sitting on the pilates ball. My pain has subsided 100%. I know that going to the gym 4 times a week helps me, and my healthy diet, but this ball has been night and day for me. My regular chair just earned a free trip to the dumpster.

Get a ball! Save your back.

** Disclaimer**

All persons sitting on a funny rubber ball will not feel relief.

I'll have to concur with A1R3K that the stupid ball helps posture. In regard to ADG's unending supply of images, I can't comment on a room full of women shitting out bubble-balls. I'm still hoping they appear, though, as my Red Ryder's getting some dust.

yah, i cant believe i can feel my core strength already only after 4 days. there are exercises that i found on line that you can do sitting at your desk. There's this one exercise that moves your spinal fluid up your spine and keeps it from settling in your lower back (which can cause discomfort), it's kind of like a figure 8 motion on top the ball with your hips. i can't say enough how this has fixed my back, i feel awesome.

i really do recommend everyone sitting in a chair to try this. it takes a little getting used to until your brain realizes that you are sitting on a ball, but once it's in your subconscious, you're good to go.

gees, between going mac, and now fixing my back issues, i feel like i have a new lease on life in front of the computer.

I call it an exercise ball, but we used to use them in my yoga class and I loved it.

If you really want to use it for a chair, you should check out the ones with a back. My teacher had two- one for work, one for home.

I so wish I could just sit on a ball or something. True back pain is either sitting or laying down now for almost 25 years.

I had one. Trust me in 2 weeks the novelty will wear off. I go thru chairs like a whore goes thru abortions. I have yet to find a chair or sitting device I didn't break or didn't work for me.

doubtful.

most comfortable thing i have ever sat on. not to mention, its like a 12 hour workout on your abs and core strength. i have no plans of letting this thing go.

your productivity goes up to. because it requires you to be in a state of constant movement, it keeps your brain focused on moving forward and getting things done.

it takes a few hours to get used to, but once your mind knows your sitting on a ball and takes over to keep you balanced, it becomes subconscious. my abs are sore like i did push ups and i can already feel core strength coming back, which strengthens your lower back muscles.

i cant believe i waited this long to try it. it also forces you to sit up straight. i dont have that pain between my shoulder blades anymore from hunching.

How does it work exactly... besides you sit on it... I know.

I've seen a few friends convert over to these for office chairs and I just don't get how it would be comfortable, and well basically how you don't end up flat on your back or face stretching out or something.

If it helps with backpain, and gives you a slight ab work out during the day might be worth checking out. I've been more than a little lax on my workout routine with all the hours im clocking at my desk.

it becomes a subliminal motor skill. the first couple hours are tricky, after that, its not even in your mind. your abs work all day. there are multiple exercises that you can do sitting on it too that help strengthen your lower back muscles along with your abs. i go to the gym and do abs there too, but this is much different. its like pilates because your core is always working. core strength is that strong, stamina, from within your gut strength. i bet a month on this ball will do more than doing crunches 4 times a week.

you should do it.

Interesting... looks like I might have to pick one up next time I swing through the shopping center.

Pictures will follow shortly of munki adjusting and falling all over his desk.

I suggest finding a good chiropractor.

I'm 26, have been doing internet business full time since I was 21, and was rated between a "1 and a 2" out of 4 on the scale. 1 being perfectly healthy back, 4 being crippled and really beyond much help. I also carried 6-7 pounds more weight on my right side of my body from being imbalanced!

I signed up for a 24 visit plan ($30/visit with insurance) - and I must say it's been great! Very little if any back pain now, better breathing, less stress, more energy, and I sleep better. Granted, I probably didn't need 24 visits (I think I'm on around visit 20 and I'm ready to be done with it - 15 visits would have been enough maybe), but I recommend it! The biggest different I noticed was correcting the curvature in my neck/spine and major reduction of tension in my upper back/shoulders.

If I have time, I even plan on doing some free SEO marketing for this doctor just to say thanks

I painted an old ladies house. She bought me a computer chair back when I was first getting my feet wet in adult. For 6 years it kicked ass. I could sit so wrong and nothing would happen. Chair was just too damn comfortable.

Then one day the cushions hit that point of no return. I looked it up online and it is no longer made. Now I am bummed. I have went through 5 chairs since and they all sucked.

Those balls do work well. But the best thing I ever did for my back was take up Pilates for about a month or so. You learn to isolate the transversus abdominus muscle. The way it's been explained to me is that it's basically a natural weight lifting belt. But due to the sedate life most people lead these days, the muscle is generally a lot weaker than it should be and responds sluggishly. Pilates specifically targets this muscle. It is central in pretty much every pilates exercise. The result is when you do pick something up or make fast movements, the muscle responds immediately. I haven't had back problems since.

I hear that...

I have a congenital (that means I was born with it) spinal condition, which makes it uncomfortable to sit up straight (my lower back goes all numb).

I used to catch hell in school for my posture, until my Doctor spoke to the school officials, and I was subsequently allowed to sit in the back of the class and slouch.

I had the same problem at boot camp in the Navy - standing at attention for any period of time caused me excruciating pain. I was finally relieved from that requirement.

To this day, I have to fidget when standing in a line to keep from getting paralyzing pain. When I play tennis, I can't sit down in between changeovers or my back and hips lock up. When I drive home in my car after tennis, I practically have to pry myself out of the car.

I'm so used to the low grade pain, that I pretty much don't notice it at all. Once every few years though I twist my back, and if Icy-Hot patches don't work, I end up getting ultrasound treatments which are magical...

I have my ball in my office and I have learned to kneel on it and keep my balance. Talk about keeping your core tight. I also use it for floor ab work. Guess I need to just get rid of my chair and use it for that too.

One of these days... perhaps this year, I'm going to build a chair that kicks all these chairs asses. I've always wanted a chair that was like on a roller coaster. Totally conformed to your entire backside with a nice ass. But instead of fiberglass, it'll be that tight black foam rubber stuff. or webbing. Haven't quite figured it out yet... but I will..

Hey... anyone know of any free form 3-d design software that doesn't require a degree to learn?

I don't see myself balancing on a ball all day and working as well, but if it's works right on

I feel ya there except I am more used to mid range pain. Suppose you know what it is like to have those days or moments when you wake up and notice no pain and that like is almost the greatest feeling ever, even though it is really fleeting.

Yes, I have those days...

Due to past ankle surgery (from tennis), I wear orthotics in my shoes (which is why I almost always wear tennis shoes).

Anyway, I noticed that they make a squeaking sound, which is not good for video making.

After working in socks and killing my back, I finally found a solution:

EasySpirit makes an "Anti-Gravity" slipper that is heavenly. It might look funny to people on my sets (and in my office), but I swear by them...
